I might conclude that today or tomorrow, if the site is not fixed. But he
said that he has the support of the university, so I don't know what to
think.

Also, they did not erase everything. A description of his lecture is still
available in another part of the conference announcement pages.

There is no point to speculating but I get a sense that this is confusion or
some kind of mix-up rather than suppression. However, if it is not restored
soon, I guess it will be de facto suppression.

I wrote a message to the people in charge of the web page, in the contact
box at the bottom of the page. I asked them why this info was delete. They
did not respond.

The lack of a response suggests a rather mundane explanation to me:

Perhaps it's just a simple case that nobody is minding the store
anymore. Recent economic events resulting in austerity measures can
cause a lot of confusion over the reassignment of responsibilities -
whose job it now is to sweep the floors.

Well, someone went to the trouble to change the page and leave a
message saying "Dr. Duncan's speech and presentation slides are not
available." My guess is that whoever it is does not want to
communicate with me.

It hasn't been fixed as of 5/12/2009 15:25.

[Vo]:Duncan "Cold Fusion" Video Removed

2009-05-12 Thread Steven Krivit

Vorts,

I've done a cursory investigation of the disappearance of the Duncan video
from the U Missouri Web site. I'm not going to get into details here and
now. My initial conclusion is that someone -but not Duncan - made a
decision to suppress/censor the video and slide presentation.

Thanks to the first amendment, Fair Use, and some quick helpers who grabbed
the content before it disappeared, New Energy Times will have the content
back on the net momentarily.

I must say - this is the third instance in as many months related to "cold
fusion" or LENR videos that have been subjected to "influence."

The first was the forced removal of the Dash video by a popular "cold
fusion" theorist who owned the raw footage.

The second was the APS matter with the "60" Minutes" piece.

Strange days.

Actually, while low-level hoodlums may be confused about their rôle in
society (much like many of the people on this eList, actually), the truth
of the matter is that gangsters are in fact the biggest supporters of the
capitalist order. And the capitalists and their police functionaries are
absolutely well aware of that, as well -- allowing these thugs to do
"services" for them, for future considerations... as anyone who follows
political history -- or daily life -- should know.

And take that as being from someone with personal experience -- and
theoretical knowledge -- on the matter.

Honestly, I was not trying to sound like a jerk; if I
did, I'm sorry. It wasn't what I intended. I just
don't see the need for all these efficiency additions,
when there are much simpler, cheaper, solutions. But
they would benefit the people, not the auto maker, or
the government, or {xyz}.

I don't want a car with a refrigerator in it. I want

Have to remember that for future. On Saturday, I spent
a while hot gluing them down to the aluminum disk. The
hot glue didn't like to stick unless pressed JUST
right and fast enough. The magnets didn't like
standing in line, so to speak, either. 2-sided tape
might have saved a few swear words. :)

Duncan "Cold Fusion" Video Mystery
http://newenergytimes.com/v2/blog/

The part that I didn't write is that:

1) Duncan also expressed some concern to me about the fact that I had
written something critical about Caltech in a previous article and

2 Duncan told me he was an adjunct faculty member at Caltech.

I don't know exactly what it means relative to the video...or lack thereof...

[Vo]:Re: [Vo]:Duncan “Cold Fusion” Video Mystery

Good summary.

This is very minor issue, but it says:

By today, a notice had been posted on the site, “Dr. Duncan’s speech and
presentation slides are not available,” that left no doubt that the removal
was deliberate.

My notes show that the statement "Dr. Duncan’s speech and presentation
slides are not available" was there on May 10. That was when I first became
aware of this.

I took note of this because, as Steve says, it is proof that the removal was
deliberate. On May 10 someone suggested me that maybe the files were
accidentally deleted. That's plausible. I have accidentally deleted things
at LENR-CANR.org, or left links that do not work. That can happen on any web
page. The point is, however, when a file or text is deleted accidentally,
you do not find a note saying: "this material is not available."

Whatever is happening, it is unpleasant and it gives the field a bad name.
People are going to think that Duncan retracted.

I hope he does not mind seeing his slides uploaded, and his video on
YouTube. If he does mind for some reason, I wish he would tell us.

As for the person who deleted the text and files, I don't give a fig if that
person is upset that we are uploading this stuff! This is the Internet era.
Did they really think they could hide this material, or make it unavailable
by erasing it from one site? As I said, if this is suppression it is inept.

I must say, it does seem more like suppression with each passing day. This
is just a guess, but my hunch is that the professor who phoned Duncan and
called him a "charlatan" has put pressure on the university to delete the
files.

Re: [Vo]:Re: [Vo]:Duncan “Cold Fusion” Video Mystery

2009-05-12 Thread Steven Krivit

Jed,

The one thing I know about Duncan, from multiple instances including my
communications with him today is that he is a diplomat. Look at the video
and see how gracefully he said that 60 Minutes and McKubre did a disservice
by talking about cold fusion powered laptops and cars.

In an e-mail I received from him today, he was also very defensive about
Caltech.

My hunch is that:

1) You are right; the UM felt threatened.
2) Someone at UM (not Duncan) issued an order to pull the material
2) Duncan will never admit to me or you that there was coercion or suppression.

Sure there are lots of things to debate and argue about in the LENR field,
but trying to stuff Pandora back into her box is a bit pathetic.

The recent behavior of people in the physics establishment is very
peculiar, and methinks they doth protest too much.

Pull up a seat folks, this is gonna get interesting.
