Look at all the posts and you will see, that the Reply-To: header should
be [EMAIL PROTECTED]

The reason, that the To: header is different for these posts is because
people used these adresses. I can see, if i can get them "rewritten"
when they go past the mailinglist-server software.

them in
afterwards. I'll just drop him a mail again, with the request.

Regarding the search engine i've maybe got a better idea. I'll drop you

hmm what do you want to do?

 - I dont see a --nc option for chbind
 - neither -l nor -p
 - chbind requires a command to execute
   (which I don't see either ...)

[Vserver] Mailing List ...

2003-12-06 Thread Herbert Poetzl

Hi Martin!

would it be possible to enhance the mailing
list somewhat ... especially the following
issues seem to arise on a regular basis:

 - mail has a To: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
   (9 in december, 99 total)
 - mail has a Cc: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
   (26 total)
 - mail has a To: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

further it would really really nice to have
the 'old' mailing list postings in the
archive and a search function for them, if
you need some help, maybe someone in the
community is able and willing to do so ...

please don't get me wrong, I appreciate your
time and help on that very much ... thanks
for the good work so far and ...

[Vserver] Con's Kernel Patchset ...

2003-12-06 Thread Herbert Poetzl

Hi Sam!

I was looking at the ck1 (http://kernel.kolivas.org)
for 2.4.23 and it seems to include useful stuff for
vserver, namely

O(1) scheduler with batch scheduling, interactivity
  Preemptible kernel
  Low Latency
  Read Latency2
  Variable Hz
  64bit jiffies
  Supermount-NG v1.2.10
  Bootsplash v3.0.7
  XFS file system v1.3.1

I would like to port the vs1.20 to this kernel,
and it seems that this is quite easy, but, as you
can imagine, this includes the O(1) stuff and so
your help would be appreciated ...

TIA,
Herbert

nothing to fear, this won't change from this

Why? What if you want to access block devices? This should be left as it

first, adding CAP_SYS_RESOURCE not break process limits but add some additions
capabilty:
/* Override resource limits. Set resource limits. */
/* Override reserved space on ext2 filesystem */
/* Modify data journaling mode on ext3 filesystem (uses journaling
   resources) */
/* Override size restrictions on IPC message queues */
/* Allow more than 64hz interrupts from the real-time clock */
/* Override max number of consoles on console allocation */
/* Override max number of keymaps *
i don`t find serious security problem with allow it.

second - for shutdown vps from inside, you can use reboot manager from
original Jacks tools.

hmm, guess that isn't that easy to accomplish,
but I can have a look at the code, and think

to use the patch, you also have to select the persistent
context id for files (first option on filesystems)

sounds good so far, but you should also select the
hardware your system actually provides/has .. if you
don't want to do that, you can always use the config
file from solucorp and do the folowing

# wget ftp://ftp.solucorp.qc.ca/pub/vserver/config-2.4.22

# cd linux-2.4.23
# cp ../config-2.4.22 .config
# make oldconfig

after you have done make menuconfig (or make oldconfig)
you have to do make dep (as stated in the friendly
message if you leave the previous make which looks like
*** Next, you must run 'make dep'. ;)

# make dep >../Dep.log

> 323 make bzImage modules modules_install
> (error about ext3)

I would first do a

# make bzImage modules >../Build.log

just to see if everything compiles ...

if that was okay (except for some warnings), you can
do the install (modules_install)

by the way, I exactly did what you described (except
for adding the mandatory make dep) and it worked
without any issues, if you have troubles doing this,
please send me the error messages, and I'll have a
look at it ...

Why would you want that? Why would you put a dev entry inside if you don't
want it accessible?

Hmm, that would actually be nice. Is there already such CAP?

No i dont, i want all vservers by default to be disallowed access to
block devices, EVEN IF THERE IS A DEV ENTRY.

Re: Re: Re[3]: [Vserver] [Release] Per Context Quota and Disk Limits ...

2003-12-06 Thread mile1
Hello Alex,

I have downloaded the new freevps stuff, and I have it working fairly well.
My question is this, will I need to add CAP_SYS_RESOURCE to the .conf file for the
vserver, in order to make bind work? and can I do a shutdown from inside the vserver?

 Which vserver?!
If I want vserver to access blockdevices - I create entries in /dev for it,
if I don't - I don't.
I don't really get where the problem is - you wan't all your vservers
permanently banned from accessing block devices? Even if you create those
devices yourself especially for your vserver to access them? Or what?

I'll have a look at that. The solucorp address is no mailinglist
anymore, it just is used as a forwarder to the current list, so that we
catch the ones, that didn't see the change.

All vservers. You just said that it was not a bug if there was a /dev
entry that the vserver could access the device.
Then i'm asking you... why does a vserver need access to a
blockdevice?

I'd suggest you run

cat patch-vserver-x.xx | patch -p1 --dry-run |egrep 'rej|fail'

first, to see what/where source files are actually getting rejected patches (this
command
doesn't really patch the source tree - it just shows where you can run into
potential problems).
