Re: I want conver from WMA to anyother format.

2001-10-08 Thread Rob Findlay
WMA is Windows Media Player audio. If you just want to listen to it download
WMP. If you want to convert it to burn onto CD or whatever you will need
some kind of sound converting application. Try BarbaBatch
http://www.versiontracker.com/moreinfo.fcgi?id=600&db=mac
It's kind of a Graphic Converter for sound .

BTW your date & time is wrong (see below)

From today's mail -

We should have a firmware upgrade available this week for the Oxford 911
bridgeset on FireStar/Clearlight enclosures if you are experiencing
problems with Mac OS 10.1. If you need information on this issue please
email us or take a look at -
http://www.xlr8yourmac.com/OSX/OS_X_10.1/os_x_10_1_firewire_drives.html

Steven - you need to go back to your supplier for a firmware flush - in
the meantime take a read of Mike Breeden's article - he has the best
handle on this of all the Mac sites.

Just installed 10.1 in my machine.. Couldn't believe the improvements.
It is
so much better than 10.0.4. Everything ran smoothly, even Classic runs
well.

(Not as fast as rebooting back, but it feels almost as fast)
I have my reservations when I heard about the improvements, but now I
might

run 10.1 full time now. :-)

Only problem I have encountered is that it can't read my FireWire
external

HD. Don't know why.

9.2.1 update

2001-10-08 Thread Lloyd White
I have downloaded the 6 parts of the 9.2.1 update from the Apple site.

Part 1 (Mac OS 9.2.1 Update.smi) refuses to open saying that the other parts
are missing. All other parts opened immediately. I have put them all into
the same folder and clicked on it again but no joy. Is there some trick to
this. I have downloaded the first part twice and both contained the full
13.9MG and both refuse to open.

I know there has bee some discussion on this update before so did anyone
have the same problem?

Thanks.

What is the use the guy is a PC hard core fan and it wont matter what anyone
says anything different to his view is treated with disdain.

His review on the cube was biased (one whinge it only came with 64 meg

They don't care they use pc's and if it ain't Ibm compatible to them it
ain't worth writting about

Photoshop Web Gallery

2001-10-08 Thread Severin Crisp
Photoshop 5.5, which I have, and 6.0 have the very handy "Web
Gallery" command which takes a folder of pictures and converts them
to a web ready folder with thumbnails and full size displays plus all
the necessary links for navigation.
The layout of the full size images is very wasteful with much screen
space taken up with the title, photographer and date. The
photographer's name and date can be eliminated but the title
(actually the filename) is permanent and in large type, though you
can optionally switch it off in the thumbnail view. In none of the
documentation can I find any reference to the titling, how to
eliminate it or at least to reduce the size and reclaim some screen
real estate.

Has anyone else looked at this issue?
TIA

10.1 kills Apache (Web Sharing) - how to fix

2001-10-08 Thread Darren Kam
Just a quick note to those about to install Mac OS 10.1 and are serving web
pages:

If you've been running Web Sharing, you may notice that after you upgrade to
10.1 you cannot start websharing again. If you go into the terminal and
type in "apachectl start" you'll see:

[localhost:~]username%apachectl start
dyld: /usr/sbin/httpd Undefined symbols:
_apple_hfs_module
/usr/sbin/apachectl start: httpd could not be started

It's a bit of a pain when you're trying to serve a web site off your Mac. :)
After a quick search on MacFixit, I found a link to Stepwise.com
 which solves
the problem.

Open up a terminal window and type in:

sudo perl -i.prefix -p -e 's/apple_hfs_module/hfs_apple_module/g'
/etc/httpd/httpd.conf

You'll need the administrator password to perform this step (obviously) but
once you've done this it's all happy again. :)

The MacFixit page
is a good place to start if you've found an abnormality in OS 10.1. Other
than that, it runs absolutely sweetly on this dual 800. As I'd darn well
hoped! :)

Cheers,
Darren.

Our 60GB FireCube has been a runaway hit in the few days we've had this
drive on the site.

Featuring the new Seagate Barracuda IV, this drive is probably the

GST) the 60GB FireCube external FireWire drive has broken all sales
records, so why not take a peek -

Don't forget 256MB RAM for G3's &G4's starts at just $74 each,
and 256MB for G3/G4 PowerBooks and iBooks from $92.

Re: Project Management Application Software

Hi Group!

Thanks for all the replies on using Finder. Now for my next question.

I have been looking for a Project Management Program (Gantt Diagrams
etc) for the Mac. So far the best I have seen (which is affordable)
is HyperProject v 3.0. Any comments on this choice (or others) would
be welcome.

Well, there's Microsoft Project (blecch), or FastTrack Schedule

You could also search the WAMUG list archives for previous
discussions on the topic.

Re: CD RW not supported

2001-10-08 Thread Shay Telfer

Hello All:

I recently bought a Titanium Powerbook which came with an external fire wire
CD RW (VST Smartdisk).

The machine is running 9.1, and the latest version of CD Burner.

Although the CD RW mounts OK, when I go to "Burn" it tells me that my device
is not supported.

Any suggestions out there?

If you're trying to burn using the Finder, make sure you've used
removed any Toast extensions (and conversely if you're trying to burn
using Toast, try removing iTunes extensions). Each of these
extensions tends to assume it has sole ownership of the CD drive...

(Under more recent versions (9.2.1, recent iTunes, and Toast Titanium
I believe) this has been fixed)

Sounds like a faulty power supply to me. Be warned! Getting hold of a
