So, no luck for me! Fortunately I can share my partner's ADSL connection

I don't use any special drivers; I still have a static IP even though
I switched to a Home account several months ago (shh). The
Airport Base Station is directly connected to the ethernet ADSL
modem, ABS is configured "Manually", and it all just works.

Interesting. Westnet is listing MacOS compatibility for their D-Link USB DSL
200 modem. As far as I know D-Link provides even less Mac support than
Alcatel do I'm almost sure they mean OS9. Fortunately I've got three PC's to
choose from to act as a Router/Server/Firewall.

Re: USB Modem & Mac OS X

2002-05-11 Thread Brian Poleykett
Hi everyone,

To keep informed those of you that are interested in connecting a Mac OS X
machine to iiNet's ADSL service via a USB ADSL modem... Forget it. My
experiment so far...

- I downloaded the Alcatel SpeedTouch USB ADSL drivers from the Alcatel
site.

- I downloaded the Manual too (thanks Lara!)
http://www.speedtouchdsl.com/pdf/stusb_manual_uk_ppp_02.pdf

- Installed the package.

- Plugged the modem in to a USB port. On restart, the new port was detected
and added as an option to my "Show" menu in Network Preferences.

- HOWEVER, when you set "Configure" to "Manually" you are given the ability
to edit the IP address, but not the Router & Subnet Mask information. The
Manual says to leave "Configure" on "Using PPP", but this gives you even
less flexibility. The information that iiNet give you requires you to add
these two things. So, when I tried to establish a connection with Internet
Connect... nothing. :-(

My contact at iiNet says that they use "a variant on PPoE; PPoE RFC 1.4".
iiNet recommend Mac users get the Ethernet ADSL modem. When my partner
arranged our home ADSL connection, iiNet sold the ethernet modem for $150
extra or something. Now, to quote my contact, "iiNet ADSL now comes
standard with ethernet ADSL modems at no extra cost".

through his WinXP box. If you're considering an iiNet ADSL connection,
looks like you might be going for the Ethernet ADSL modem. iiNet state they
do not have Mac-capable drivers on hand [Lara - what do you use?]. If they
can find and send me some drivers as promised, I'll whip up a support page
on Macintosh Centro.

Hi Brian,

A google search brought up a lot of info, however most of the good
stuff is French.

Here is one of the better ones I found. The URL's may be wrap, so
sorry if they dont work out

For a somewhat translated version:

or pure French:

Sorry I can't be of more help.

Just purchased InDesign 2.0. When I go to install the software it gets
1/4 of the way through the install then quits. I then get the
following error message.

" An error occurred that prevented the installation from completing"

Running Mac OS 10.1.4

Have tried Adobe's solutions on their website with no joy.

Has anyone in the group had any like issues?

Display Card

2002-05-11 Thread Paul J. Willemse

Hello all,

I am setting up a server using an older G3 400. I am looking for a
-really- cheap, even used, display card that can drive a standard Mac
Monitor. Resolution and speed is not critical as it will only display
the server status.

Any leads or suggestions?

Re: Installing Fonts/font conversions

Hello all,

I've been using TTConverter for as long as I can remember...it does a
brilliant, QUICK and EASY job of converting fonts from the 'dark
side' to the side of good.Mac!

I'm sure quick search in the usual places will find it.

Definitely sounds like a Windows TrueType font to me. You will need to
convert it to its Mac version in order to use it. Check out the MacFixit
Utilities archive for a utility to do this (I know there is one which I
last used several years ago). There is also Macromedia's Fontographer. I
don't know if this is still commercially available, but it does this job
quickly and easily. I have a copy, so if I can be of any help please get
back to me off list.

Wanted - ASIP 6.x

2002-05-11 Thread Paul Sparrow
Sorry for the cross posting.

Reason
Need a larger, faster appleshare solution for a low end undergrad student
lab, I can lay my hands on a G3 266 Minitower box but can't source a cheap
ASIP 6.x to run on it. My school does not consider it worthwhile to fund
this project thus I am on the scrounge. Anybody out there with a version of
ASIP 6.x sitting around gathering dust?
