Keynote rates well on Forbes.com

Hi All

I thought the following might be of interest to some. Apple's new
software Keynote was rated quite well by Forbes.com. Quite an
interesting read for such a new piece of software.

You should then be able to select your flash text etc and then in the
property inspector, press the play button to see it work (or preview
in browser).

Lesley,
When you create flash it makes a swf file which you have to add in every
folder where the button will appear, not only in Templates where it will go
automatically.

Yes indeed. Next is the AppleCentre Geraldton inside Mitchell and Brown

Hi all

I'd like to give you all an update on an exciting event taking place
this Saturday.

We are opening a new AppleCentre for the folk who live South of the
River, in Cannington. This store is very exciting for Apple in Perth.
Firstly, it is a totally new look for AppleCentre which looks
sensational. I've seen some of the east coast stores that have been
done this way, and they look great - a fantastic retail experience.
Secondly, it is a new concept store for Apple in Australia as this will
be our first AppleCentre store within a store. This AppleCentre will be
located inside the new Abacus superstore in Cannington, and is going to
enable us to be in front of thousands of PC users, who may have never
considered "switching" to the Mac.

So please come down on Saturday and take a look. There will be heaps of
activities going on and Garner and I will both be there during the day.
We will have the updated iApps on demo and I'm trying VERY hard to get
one of the new 12" Powerbooks over as well - no guarantees on that one,
but it's looking pretty likely. If I don't get it, you will be able to
see the new 12" PowerBook at most of the resellers next week.

Also, the first 20 AppleCentre customers to spend over $80 will receive
a free movie ticket.

Look forward to seeing you on Saturday, the store opens at 9am, and is
located next to Toys R Us on Albany Highway.

Kind Regards

Karl

For taking photos of PCBs I would assume you need high-resolution so
you should really be looking at 4 - 5 megapixel cameras. DV video
cameras definitely won't cut it as even with progressive scan
options, you'll get far lower resolution and quality for still images.

Personally we went for the Minolta DiMage 7i
http://www.steves-digicams.com/2002_reviews/dimage7i.html#specs

although there is now an even better model available as well, the DiMage 7hi
http://www.steves-digicams.com/2002_reviews/dimage7hi.html

They feature 7 x optical zoom (28mm - 200mm), manual focusing ring,
very fast response for multiple frame per second shooting (up to 7
fps, or 15 fps at lower res), 5 megapixel resolution (2560 x 1920),
standard 49mm thread on end of lens barrel for filters, Audio
annotation, short movie capture (320 x 240, 15 fps, 60 seconds)
SLR-style through the lens Electronic viewfinder etc.

not bad for around Aus$2000.

If that's too rich for your budget, check out
http://www.steves-digicams.com for excellent reviews of heaps of
other cameras.

Unfortunately, MacOS X Installers up to now have not offered Custom
Install options. It's been all or nothing, so you're left with not much
more than re-installing MacOS X from your original CD, just to get a
clean copy of Keycaps.

You do have a few other options -

1. Download a copy of Pacifist. This is a program similar to (Classic)
MacOS' Tome Viewer, in that it will let you look inside an Installer
package and extract just the items you want. See if you can extract the
Keycaps app from the Installer package on the original MacOS X CD. I
have not used this for any real purpose, so I cannot offer any advice
except USE AT YOUR OWN RISK.

2. Ignore the problem and be happy with the fact that your keyboard
modifiers are working anyway (do do know, of course, that Keycaps does
not need to be running in order for them to work - it's just a helpmate
to show you what the key combinations are)

3. Ignore the problem and activate the Character Palette (System
Preferences -> International -> Input Menu Tab -> Click on Character
palette). It's more useful that Keycaps in many ways, giving you access
to the full Unicode character set.

4. Ignore the problem and wait for the next system update, seeing that
everything else is working OK anyway.
