Re: Laser to Ethernet Box
given that your running a version of classic why not use the laserwriter bridge extension for free... you just have to make sure the mac you plug the printer in to is on when other computers need to print. if you can't find it through the normal sources (tucows, version tracker etc) I can dig it up and send it to you as an attachment (it's tiny) Hi All Could anyone suggest where I might get a ethernet-localtalk bridge to connect a Laserwriter Select 360 to a small ethernet network (via a 5 port mini hub)of vintage Mac 7200's. The existing powered box (Sonic microPrint)has died although the printer still works fine directly connected to one machine. The Sonic has connections for power, thin ethernet and RJ45? twisted pair at one end and a localtalk serial 8 socket for a standard ancient Mac printer cable at the other. This is for a educational institution and I would prefer to buy cheap and secondhand if possible. Thanks in advance. Dave Hi Dave, A very cheap solution would be downloading the Localtalk Ethernet Bridge software from Apple. Just conenct the printer to one of the machines, and install the software on that machine. This will then enable the printer to be seen (via laserwriter 8) on the other machines on the network. http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=60290SaveKCWindowURL=http%3A%2F%2Fkbase.info.apple.com%2Fcgi-bin%2FWebObjects%2Fkbase.woa%2Fwa%2FSaveKCToHomePagesearchMode=Expertkbhost=kbase.info.apple.comshowButton=truerandomValue=100showSurvey=false[EMAIL PROTECTED]|169973275 or have a look at article 60290 in the Knowledge base at http://www.apple.com.au/support Seeya Rod!
Sleep G4 PowerBook
My G4 PowerBook running OS 10.2.3 behaves erratically from time to time when put to sleep. When I close the PowerBook the 'sleep' light on the lid latch does not light up: on opening the PowerBook the screen is blank (black) and regardless of which keys I hit it does not wake up. I have to do a force quite to restart the computer. This doesn't happen every time I put it to sleep, but only occasionally and not according to any particular pattern. Any suggestions? HTML and [EMAIL PROTECTED]@@
Hi, I have just finished a site which was designed on an iMac using Dreamweaver. When I look at it on a PC the font size has been increased which really upsets the layout. Is there any way of locking the font size so that it can't be altered? You could try ugrading to 10.2.6 It sounds like your machine is kernel panicking after it's turned off the screen but before it completes the sleeping procedure. Alternatively remove any external USB devices. Apple Mail freezing
Hiya I finally decided to transfer my e-mails to Apple Mail - not impressed. First time it froze mid-import, force quit, and every time since the same. Now that I have actually imported everything, from nothing I now have two sets of every mailbox and apparently every single message is unread - that makes over 22,000 messages since everything is doubled up. Any recommendations on anti-freeze? Any recommendations, other than going through every single message manually, on how to persuade the app that I really have read all these messages, and only actually require 1 set of mailboxes. Finally, has anyone else experienced these issues? extremely exasperated Angus
