Not sure if this is what you mean but the general complaint authority
for ISP difficulties is the Telecommunications Industry Ombudsman
[TIO]. I made a complaint to them a couple years ago about an ISP
which failed to deliver the services which it had contracted and which
had consistently refused to respond to my complaints to them. My
complaint was upheld and I received a refund of fees paid to the ISP.
Of course I then had to sign up with another ISP but that proved
providential actually. You also have the satisfaction that if you win
your case the ISP has to pay all the costs of the TIO in investigating
your complaint. If you wish to get details of how I handled this let me
know off list. Sorry I don't have the address/phone of the TIO to hand
but try the White Pages. A phone call before putting pen to paper is
recommended. Alternatively another email to your current ISP
threatening to refer the matter to the TIO may help.

Thank you Peter.
I reinstalled Eudora and then applied the System Preferences routine

Advice appreciated.

Try System Preferences > Internet > Email tab > Default Email Reader.
If Eudora 5.2.1 does not already show in the popup menu use the

Re: LC 520 system disks

2003-05-16 Thread Bob Howells
Daniel,

AS well as having an appropriate System... 7.1 to 7.5 should work,
You MUST have the right System Enabler,
which is probably why you were not able to get something else working.
Check below !

Cheers

Bob

ABOUT SYSTEM ENABLERS

To work properly, your computer may need a special piece of software called a
System Enabler. Most new Macintosh computers introduced since September, 1992
require a System Enabler. The System Enabler contains everything that is
needed to support a new computer (or computers). Use the information below to
determine which System Enabler your computer needs (if it needs one at all).

Cheers Keith!

this is super-cool, thoroughly recommended.

for those interested, it has a separate editor for creating templates
complete with 'auto' content inserts - eg: automatically adding
name/address etc of reply recipients.

Re: Itunes 4 buggy?

2003-05-16 Thread Dark Servant
I'm running iTunes 4 on OS X.2.6 with a G4/400SP and it works like a
charm. No problems at all.

Has anyone else experienced problems where the song name and elapsed
time
info at the top of the player in Tunes gets frozen along with the
progress
indicator? And when you play another song, the last song when it got
frozen

still displays.

Using iTunes 4 on OSX 10.2.6 with G4/450SP.

Workaround is to quit and reopen.

Yeah I wrote that before connecting to the net. The computer was
unplugged last night due to the storm (modem unplugged too). So I
guess that's what caused it to lose time data. I don't bother manually

RE: Copy Protection

2003-05-16 Thread Dark Servant
I'm sure that if they keep this up someone will create some shareware
that bypasses their protection software (if this hasn't been done
already).
If I were in your position I would share that music with as many
people as possible in order to render their copy protection software
useless.

Complaints also are a good idea like you suggested.

Ruben A. Franke

I am furious with EMI's Copy Control!!

To add insult to injury, my favorite band (Afro Celt Sound System)
have just released
a new album. They're on Peter Gabriel's Real World label, but that's
distributed in
Australia by Virgin/EMI, so guess what - it's Copy Controlled and
apparently won't

play on a Mac.

Apple have a tech note on the problems here:

The band are peeved about this too and this album was in fact
recorded on
Macintoshes. They are asking fans to send emails to their management
so they can
take the issue up with EMI, but the reality is, they're pretty small
fry.

So, if you're looking to complain about not being able to play a CD,
by all means
contact EMI, the ACCC but also get onto the bands website and
complain there too.

For the record, this disc did work on my 12" powerbook with combo
drive running OS
X.2.5. However, it bothers me that it might not play on some CD
playing device I
might own in the future. Will I be required to purchase "EMI
Approved" or "Sony Music
Approved" CD players in the future? One type for each label that has
artists that I like

to listen to? Don't think so.

Rant mode ends...

Cheers,
Meg

A short but interesting article...

Also note, that for some reason, older Apple DVD drives are quite
able
to play and rip these contaminated CD's using iTunes. One of the
people

here at work bought the Norah Jones CD and wasn't able to play it.
Although my Ti laptop wasn't able to play it, my Cube quite happily
read it in iTunes and I was able to rip it to AIFF files, which I
then

burned to an uncontaminated CD which she could listen to.

It funny that all the EMI copy protection succeeds in doing, is
annoying the paying customer.
