Hi,

I have tried this without joy :(

Any other suggestions?

If not can anyone recommend a good apple service centre?

Try resetting the power manager. I can't recall how to do this but you will
find instructions in the Apple Knowledge Base article ID 14449. I'll try
sending it to you.

Cheers

Re: Help - Sick SE 30!

2003-06-29 Thread Paul

OK, it's a long way from the new G5s I know, but my faithful old SE30
seems to be at deaths door. When it's switched on, the screen shows
up

a
whole bunch of horizontal stripes - and nothing else. I can hear the
hard disk clicking away, so I don't think the disk has died. Anybody
have any ideas???

Your description of the screen reminds me of a drama I had with a
6100/66 with bad RAM.

Fixed it with apple-brand RAM.

Good Luck
Paul

Battery Not Charging?

2003-06-29 Thread tmharding
Hi,

Something strange has happened to my g3 powerbook.

My yoyo powersupply stopped working tonight and when I got my
spare out (I have now managed to go through 2 bricks and 2
yoyos) I noticed that the battery wasn't charging.

No problem - fast forward an hour an it still isn't charging. I have
reseated the battery and restarted the computer and no joy.

It has also been in the shop recently to have the hinges replaced
(this probably has no link at all)

Anyone have any suggestions as I don't want to leave it hooked
up to mains in this weather.

Help?.please?

Aurora

Re: USB flash drives

2003-06-29 Thread Keith Palmer, Zytech

Hi Meg

If you can't format them under OS X then they don't comply with the USB
standard or they are faulty.

I know SanDisk had many problems with their units and ABSOLUTELY avoid
the cheapie Chinese Flash Drives like the plague your Guru drive
sounds suspiciously Chinese.

Our units are made in Taiwan and I think we've had a total 3 pieces
returned out of about about 2,800 sold and not a single one hasn't been
able to be formatted on a Mac.

Obviously your Flash Drive will work in cross platform mode but the
data transfer speed on a Mac is seriously compromised.

Just got another USB flash drive thingo - it's a pretty cheap nasty

nicer brand - "usbdrive" - under OS X.

In short - I can't format them in Mac Standard or Extended format.
When I try (using
Disk Utility), it fails to mount them and they remain unmountable
unless I reformat

them (DOS format) on a Windows box.

I used the old one in OS 9, formatted it fine etc. But OS X seems to
have a problem

with them.

Are there any special drivers I can download for these? The disc the
new one came

with only had Windows software, the old one came with nothing.

Cheers,

Mac Consultant Needed

2003-06-29 Thread Rod Blitvich
I have a Nokia 6385 CDMA phone with IR.
I am desperate to use it to connect my PowerBook(10.2) to the Internet.
It seems I can't get an adequate modem script.

I am happy to pay a consultant to make it work.
Payment upon results.

Please email me for a more detailed description.

Thanks
Rod Blitvich
