For budget-level, yet high-quality image manipulation, you can't
look much further than GraphicConverter. You would have seen this in
VersionTracker's list.

Hi, suggest contacting Daniel Kerr for a price. He can supply cheap,
good quality DVD's, better than more expensive ones from Officeworks
which were fine to burn, but incredibly slow when reading back the data
I had written. Cheers, Susan.

I'm not at all sure what you're describing here because a failure rate
of 50% sounds like either: faulty product, or incorrect setup, with the
latter being the more likely of the two.

It is also possible that you're attempting to write DVD's while doing 20
other things, which is never a good idea.

So, rather than looking for "cheap media", I'd be looking at what it is
you're doing with the media...

Re: Mice

2003-10-08 Thread Thomas James
The good old Apple puck mice are really good. It seems to be common belief
that getting a contoured mouse the size of your hand is ergonomic, yet it
encourages you to place your entire hand over the mouse, and it becomes
inefficient to push the mouse around without leaning your hand on the desk,
putting your wrist at a rather unhealthy angle.
The Apple puck mice are small and agile and you can use it with just a few
fingers. This encourages your hand to keep your wrist level with your
fingers. Even if you do keep leaning your wrist on the desk, since the puck
is smaller, you have more freedom to lean your wrist in a more comfortable
position.

I had problems a couple of years ago, and I often got quite sore, but once I
through out my Logitech mouse and pulled the old puck out of the cupboard I
haven't had a pain since, even when using the computer many hours on end.

Didn't someone design a system that let you control a mouse by reading your
brain waves? If I remember right it required some time for you to learn to
use it - kind of like if you had a third arm surgically attached - but it
wouldn't cause RSI.

The little headband wasn't too stylish though.

Re: mice

2003-10-08 Thread Mark Scholmann
Adam,

all injuries are different, but I know of someone at my work who has had a
similar experience.

The person had to switch "mouse hands" for a while (using left instead of
right)... then, pressure pads under the wrist to assist with the correct
height and position of the hand... now, the person uses a "track-ball"
(upside down mouse). Although, you would think the extra "thumbing" around
would be annoying (* well, it is), but it is saving the wrist from
movement, and you can still get quite good control.
Not useful if you are into designing / drawing on the computer, as it
doesn't work that well. You don't get a continuous move across the screen
in one "thumb"... if you know what I mean.

Anyway, check for injury guidance from doctor/books/internet, as it all
comes down to your chair, monitor position, hand angles, keyboard position,
height, having rests, excercises, etc, etc...

Good luck,

Mark Scholmann

Hi All,

After working with computers for the last 15 years and working with
computers for 7, I have really started having problems with RSI in my
mouse hand. This has recently been compunded further by the purchase of
my awesome iBook and the use of its trackpad.

My question for the list is, what mice do you guys use or recommend that
are ergonomic enough to reduce the damage I am doing to my hand? I guess
the ultimate mouse I am looking for would have to also be portable so
that I can take it with my ibook, but not as important as comfort.

Cheers,

Adam.

If you don't have 1) a Beige G3, or 2) a G5, or 3) a SCSI card, then it's
probably as safe as you can expect. Just remember to back up your data first
(pfft yeah right) like you do with any other OS update.

It has been noted that laptops seem to have changed battery behaviour, but
this seems rather uncertain at the moment. I personally suspect it's people
imagining things, though my battery life seems to have improved 20%. But I
also think I'm imagining things ;)

I think this being the expected last update to 10.2 Apple has tried to cram
a whole lot of things into it before they kick 10.2 loose completely. Hence
a few minor oversights.

Now, updating to Stuffit 8 on the other hand...
