PowerBook Pismo 500 (Fully Loaded) for Sale: $900

2004-04-04 Thread Joel

Hi WAMuggers,

I am parting with my beloved PowerBook Pismo 500 and thought I'd offer
it up to the list before putting it in the papers. Selling it 'cos I am
getting a new iBook G4 soon.

This machine is a real beauty, when it was first released it was
Apple's flagship portable armed with a beefy 500Mhz G3 processor.

You can check out the general specs of the Pismo here:
http://www.lowendmac.com/pb2/pismo.shtml

My machine is fully loaded with a whopping 1 GB of RAM and an upsized
20GB, 5400rpm Hard Drive which is fast and ace for audio/ video work.
I've been using it mainly for audio work and some Final Cut Pro work
every now and then. The Powerbook Pismo is considered by many to be one
of Apple's best PowerBooks with a ruggedness that's unmatched by the
Titanium/Alu Powerbooks. It also features the ultra-handy expansion
bays (which have sadly been missing from the current range of
powerbooks). The expansion bays allow you to have 2 batteries in the
machine providing up to 6 hours of road-warrior use! (Or you can choose
from a whole host of other expansion options like Zip Drives, Floppies
etc.)

My machine comes with a DVD/CD drive and a single battery (which still
holds good charge - about 2 1/2hrs on a full charge) The keyboard is a
treat to type on and offers a comfortable action. Also included with
the machine is an AirPort card which has great reception. The Pismo has
a PC Card slot, 2 USB ports, 2 FireWire Ports, ethernet, modem-on-board
and a 4Mbps IrDA.

The machine is in perfect working condition, though there are some
cosmetic scratches visible and a slight depression on a small corner of
the screen. (Functionally, the LCD is still in good working condition,
but image on this portion of the screen is of a slightly lighter colour
than the rest of the screen.)

It is currently running OS 10.3 Panther and OS 9.2 (Dual Bootable).
Both OSes run like a dream with the 1GB of RAM.

I am selling it for $900.

The sale includes the PowerBook (as described above) plus it's
accompanying 'UFO' style power adaptor. However, It does not include
the original box and install CDs. I left those things back in Singapore
when I came over to Perth. (I am a Singaporean student studying at
Murdoch Uni.)

Drop me an email ([EMAIL PROTECTED]) or give me a call at
0421-323728 if you're interested and would like to have a look/ play
with it. I live next to Murdoch Uni (South of the River)

Create a nice day!

re Cheapest and best ADSL

2004-04-04 Thread KEVIN Lock
I will second Karl's comments. We have been very satisfied with
iinet over a few years. Even though they are not that Mac savvy,
they do have people there who can talk Mac.I have had no reason
to ring them in a couple of years.

Re: Best and cheapest ADSL in Perth

2004-04-04 Thread Karl Videmanis

Disclaimer: I don't own shares in iiNet

I must be the luckiest iiNet customer in Perth - and so must my entire
family. Being an ex Telstra broadband customer, I was getting jacked
off by their high prices and 20-30 minute wait times for technical
support. So I moved to iiNet who at the time were one of the few
alternatives to Telstra. That was over 18 months ago, and during that
time I must say I've been very impressed with their pricing and
service. My parents and my sister are also with iiNet (finally
convinced mum that broadband for $24.95 was a great deal) and they have
also had no problems.

I rarely need to ring technical support, but when I do I get through
within a few minutes. I tell the support person my problem and that I
am an experienced user, and they put me through to a senior tech right
away.

iiNets toolbox feature is great, and their ftp servers are well setup
and fast.
iiNets off-peak period is the longest I've seen (8 hours - midnight to
8am, great for early morning DLs).
iiNet are very responsive to changing market conditions - they beat
Telstra to market with the new 200MB broadband plan and are cheaper.

As for Westnet being cheaper - am I looking at the right place? Their
plans are all about the same price as iINet, and iiNet is cheaper if
you preselect them for your non-local phone calls.

Westnet have more plans, and you can have a fixed IP if you want one. I
don't want one - if I did, then Westnet are cheaper than iiNet. iiNets
Fixed IP plans are probably their biggest downfall!

I'm not saying iiNet are better than Westnet - I've never been a
Westnet customer, but I for one am a satisfied iiNet broadband
customer.

Cheers
Karl

Get info on any of the folders you want to delete and change the
ownership and permissions to read and write. Click on apply to all
enclosed items. After doing this you should be able to delete easily
but you may have to repeat the process in future.

Can someone help please?
I backup to a external LaCie firewire hard drive. I do this at regular
intervals by copying the contents of my hard drive to the LaCie hard
drive and then trashing the previous backup.
When I attempt to empty the trash after a short time I get the
following message- ' The operation cannot be completed because you do
not have sufficient privileges for some of these items'. Pressing the
continue button has no effect. I am using OS 10.2.6.

Re: ipod at target!

Ok I actually believe it now now but you can understand why I might be
a little hesitant when the date was so close to April 1st. I'm
actually surprised to have not seen anyone try an April 1st joke.

Hi all
Just going through my junk mail and couldn¹t believe it that Target
stores
are selling iPods.
Next step itunes store, can¹t be too far away.

Bart.

They are actually in the latest Target catalogue..with a 4 day
wait when
you buy one! Target are only carrying display stock, and you have to
go
back to the store 4 days later to pick up the one you want. Bit of a
bummer

that you have to wait, but at least they're in more stores!

Interesting to note that Target are an 'Authorised iPod Reseller', and
they
are also being sold at Downtown Duty Free. I figure iPods are going
to be

sold all over the place now!
