Re: iMac and 10.2

1. Is the jumper set on the drive set for single/master? (I've seen
disks set for Cable Select recognised in Disk Utility, but unable to
boot...)

Duh - I thought I had been s careful in doing this when I
installed the drive. Lo and behold the jumper had to be removed from
the factory position for master to take effect (the factory jumper
position is in fact "none of the listed options").

Thanks again, Antony.

The drive is partitioned as 7Gb / 7Gb / 106Gb for OS X / OS 9 / Data.

(Lets not start a partitioning war just yet)

The install (Disc 1) seems to go fine but when the iMac restarts it
boots from the install CD again. Ejecting the CD gives me the ol'

Two thoughts here:

1. Is the jumper set on the drive set for single/master? (I've seen

2. Is OSX really installed on the first partition on the disk? (sounds
like it is from your description, but might be worth checking which
volume is which).

Hope this helps...

Steve.

None of the usual option-key-at-startup tricks seem to work.

What have I missed here? I ran the iMac firmware updater 1.2 and it
claimed the firmware was up to date (obviously done before attempting
the machines first foray in to X land).

Suggestions welcomed!

Cheers, Antony.

isync 1.5 out - and works with z1010 three phone

2004-08-11 Thread choy
I'm sure someone has already posted about isync 1.5 being out, but the
interesting bit is that it supports the Sony Ericsson z1010 - a 3g
phone on the Three network.

Finally, Three users have a phone they can sync with their mac!

Apparently you don't need the security update if you install 10.3.5.

Combo updater also available.

And apparently if you are running 10.3 or earlier, Software Update now
lists the 10.3.5 Combo instead of just the next increment.

[OT] Westpac email wording for "Windows" (Mac??)

2004-08-11 Thread Daniel Kerr
Hi All

I received an email this morning about some features to do with Westpac
Banking and had to laugh at the following wording,..

Right at the top of the email it says...

---quote---
Security advice: Before accessing emails or the internet, always update your
virus, firewall and Windows* software.
---end quote--

So I look at the * and go to the bottom of the email to see what it's
referring to, only to be told..

---quote---
* Microsoft Windows is a common operating system. For your protection,
always ensure you have downloaded the latest patches for your operating
system.
---end quote---

OK, that in itself is quite funny,...being told it's a "common" operating
system and to make sure it's always up to date with patches. Fair enough.

But then I took it a step further and looked up "common"

---quote---
-snip-
1a. Belonging equally to or shared equally by two or more; joint
5a. Not distinguished by superior or noteworthy characteristics; average
 b. Of no special quality; standard: common procedure.
 c. Of mediocre or inferior quality
---end quote---

Well I suppose I have to be thankful I don't use a "common" operating
system! :o)

Enjoy!

Kind Regards
Daniel (who should go to bed before 4.30am when he gets up again at 7am!)

Zip Disks

2004-08-11 Thread Peter Faulks
When I use a zip disk in my wife's Windows 2000 computer it
invariably does not work when I put it back into either my Mac Lap
Top external zip drive or G4 zip drive.

I've tried zip disks that were formatted for Mac or Windows with
same effect. This also happens at work when I put a zip disk into the
school computers Win 98 zip drives and then back to Mac G3 Lap Top.

I get the error -20 and cannot even re-format the disk.

Are these disks now useless and is there something I should be doing
in the format of the zip?

Any help would be appreciated
