Motion compatible video card? Retailers, please email me at

Re: Wanted: External Firewire DVD burner

2004-10-18 Thread Mike Fuller
I've just installed a new Pioneer DVR108 (16X plus dual layer burning),
bought locally, in a new external combo housing (firewire + USB2),
bought on eBay, and it works like a charm with my PB 550.

Total cost < $220.

I updated the firmware on the drive (unfortunately had to do that via a
peecee) and ran Patchburn 3 which allowed the system to accept it as a
"vendor supported" drive - meaning I can burn directly using any of the
relevant OS X programs.

Then again, the way prices are going if you wait another few weeks the
total will probably be more like $150.

Cheers,

Mike Fuller

2004-10-18 Thread Adam Yap
It's just been clarified with me that it's not Applecare till Feb 2007
but Tricare which is what they gave with Educational purchases. That's
a 3 year warranty but no additional support.

I also have had no problems using a transferred education warranty but
if there were any problems I'd be happy to help out the prospective
buyer sort out the warranty.

Standard:
15" Aluminium Powerbook
1ghz
512MB DDR 333
60GB
64MB ATI Radeon 9600 Mobility (I think, not sure which Radeon 9xxx it
is)

Combo Drive
Bluetooth Built In

Options:
Airport Express Card
Applecare (Until ~February 2007)

Condition is excellent (basically the aluminium ones don't scratch

Selling to upgrade. Anyone interested? Care to make an offer?

My Blog

2004-10-18 Thread Adam Yap

Here's a bit of narcissism:

That's the Mac OS X category of my blog. Thought I'd post up a link to

I'll probably post regularly to it, I find a Mac OS X software gem

I wouldn't say for sure, but a iMac (the last one with the LCD screen)

You'll find links to some very nice little Applescript files for use
with either Address Book or Entourage.

To quote the author (from the readme for the Address Book version):

"MapQuest and hence the Map Of feature of Address Book is not much use
for Australian addresses. This script obtains maps of Australian
addresses from WhereIs, which works rather well.

Put WhereIs into /Library/Address Book Plug-Ins (if you have an admin
account and want WhereIs to be available to all users) or
~/Library/Address Book Plug-Ins (if you only want it to be available
in your account).

Relaunch Address Book."

This stuff works! You just click on the "Home" or "Work" label next to
the address details in an Address Book card, and your default browser
takes to to the Whereis website, with the address pinpointed nicely on
your screen. There is also a "Directions" plugin which shows you the
shortest route to taken order to get there from your own address.

The downloads are tiny. Together, the two Address Book downloads come
to about 31K. They files are free, but the author does ask for a
donation.
