Re: MS Word deleting

2005-01-14 Thread Graham Green

I am using MS Word X and have sent a client a file. When he opens it on his
PC it is fine but when he tries to insert words within a paragraph the new
words delete the existing words. Like a backwards deleting.

I have not struck this problem before. Is it a PC, Mac incompatibility? No
other client has reported this to me.

Any advice re settings either in his program or mine would be appreciated.

Lloyd

Sounds like OVERTYPING.

At bottom of the Word document page, there is the status bar, with
page, section, line, col, etcetra. Scroll across until OVR show. If
OVR is selected, then the new letter added deletes the one there.

For better explanation, go to Word Help, and search OVERSTRIKE.

Good luck

Graham

Steve knows. Trust me. Steve knows.

Basically put the blame on Apple Australia. They just can't be bothered
doing it. Plain and Simple.

At first their justification for not even enabling photo prints was
that Kodak wouldn't ship pictures to peoples houses. You had to go and
pick them up from a Kodak store.

"View and Print Photos for delivery anywhere in Australia". Thats a
quote from the Kodak Australia web site.

I don't know what their justification is now. Probably something along
the lines of "We can't be bothered".

At any rate, the impression that I get is don't expect anything from
Apple Oz any time soon.

It is shame really, as those things like iTMS and iPhoto books really do
make a difference between Mac and PC (even though iTMS is for both). They
are the extra things in a salesperson's arsenal that can get a Switcher over
the line. Now they are just one of those things that someone asks on a
support call, "How come I can't buy an iPhoto book" or "How come I can't buy
any songs from the Music Store in iTunes". I'm sure our dumb copyright laws
are the chief problem here, as technically you are not allowed to copy music
from one medium to another (which would include downloading), from what I
know. Come on Steve, step in here and pay a visit! Bill did when heard the
Government were thinking of switching to Linux :-)

Maybe with this new ex-Dell guy at the head of Apple Australia will start to
bring in some new changes to get things going. I guess the start was the
Macworld Sydney event. Baby steps... :-)

Overpricing here? Incompetent marketing? Insufficient retailer

squarely at the door of Apple Australia.

Or are there other factors causing Apple to have so few customers in

Agreed. Perhaps someone in marketing thought that 'international'
sounded too dull and supposed that 'worldwide' was a more attractive
way of saying the same thing.

The proof is out. Apple defines "Wordlwide" as Northern hemisphere
only. This from Apple's "Books" page
() - bottom of page, RH side.

Featuring Worldwide Availability

Widely available, you can order iPhoto books from within the iPhoto
application in the following countries: USA & Canada, Japan, and Europe
(including Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany,

And bear in mind that the Mac mini is not user-upgradeable (see

would be best to order the configuration you are going to need. Largest
RAM, HD you can afford, and superdrive if necessary. All upgrades to a
base system will entail a trip to your favourite AppleCentre, paying
Apple's prices.

So, not really much of a replacement yet. Perhaps iWork '06? Or by

Have fun,

iWork was promoted during the keynote as "building a better Appleworks"
(or words to that effect). I expect that we're just seeing the
beginning of something very nice. Up until now we've just had Keynote,
now we have that plus Pages. The Next Big Thing will have to be a
spreadsheet-type application, I would think. It's just a case of when.

OS emulation of almost any kind really starts to fall short when it
needs *real* hardware access, in this case the Hard Drive.

For instance, I'd like to see what would happen if you tried to use a
