Printing in Classic to OSX Printer

2005-04-09 Thread Robert Howells

Whoopeee !

Try this little Gem ! It allows you to print from a Classic
Application to

an OSX printer ! ( NOT through the Chooser ! )

It does work ! I just have not tested its limitations yet .

Have fun

Re: OSX corruption

2005-04-09 Thread Vladimir James
Peter's step-by-step approach sorted out the problem. I have recorded his
procedures in my troubleshooting files.

Ref Shay's query: AFAIK I did not run a S.M.A.R.T hard drive test with
DiskWarrior. I'm not familiar with that test; I've only used DW about
once or twice this past year.

All systems are go, at least for the moment. The problem apps opened as
normal after deleting the login items. Only one re-opened login item
caused erratic opening of problem apps, BUT they did re-open. That item
was an old fax from the PageSender program. I had trashed PageSender a
few days earlier. Hmm. Looks like that may have caused the problem.

Thanks to all who responded.

Lost email in OS X Mail

2005-04-09 Thread Rod

Hi All!

Does anyone know how to retrieve lost emails in OS X Mail? I have a
Mac that has had the Mail Database repair run, and 12,000 emails
disappeared!

Is there some way to get these emails back?

Seeya

Rod!

I would first inspect the file(s) found at the following UNIX path(s):
/Users//Library/Mail//.mbox/mbox

If you want to use the Finder to do this (as opposed to the command
line), go to the Finder and choose "Go to Folder..." from the "Go"
menu. Then, enter /Users/

Hi Rod,

Can't help specifically with Mail, but I had a similar thing with Entourage.
The repair only seemed to work after turning off 'office notifications'. It
probably goes without saying, but just backup all your files before you
attempt anything, that way you can't get into a deeper SNAFU :). Good luck!

Hi...

Fortunately Mail stores its mailboxes as plain text, which is
recoverable with a text editor, whereas Entourage stores it in a
proprietary format, which is unrecoverable (well, unless you're
skilled and desperate).

I'd recommend quitting Mail before opening the mailboxes with a text
editor though :)

And people wonder why I recommend Mail over Entourage...

Have fun,

Re: Lookup Postcode

2005-04-09 Thread bill cole

G'day Tony

I didn't use the link Ronda indicated, what I did was type " Lookup
Postcodes a2e4 " into Google, when it opened you get a page full of
options, click on the top one, " Neologica software downloads " then
press on " Lookup Postcode installer " there's even a picture to show
you what to do. and hey presto thats it. you may have to restart, but I
didn't.
hope this gets you working, other than that its how they say " your on
your own " only kidding.

Dear Bill
Thanks for your interest

The home section of address book does not show the plug in to be loaded

The issue for me is what did I download, where did it go, etc

The web page , from memory, showed a dozen or more download options,
which one did you choose

Sorry for this infantile monologue, but nothing seems as easy as you
guys say

G'day Tony & Ronda

finally cracked my " State " problem in the address book, when I
started to enter W.A. and the menu dropped down, one of the
alternatives I could select was highlighted in lower case, changed it
to the upper case one " W.A. " and hey presto rectified.

Certainly shows to check the simplest things first !!!

Hope you have solved your problem Tony.
Thanks Ronda

Hi Bill, Tony & WAMUGers,

Bill is correct in everything he has said.
I installed it from the Installer & it asked if I wanted it
installed in Address Book & Entourage.

I installed it in Address Book (I don't have Entourage).

It doesn't install in the Scripts Folder ... it installs in - HD >
LIBRARY > ADDRESS BOOK PLUG-INS

Then when you Open Address Book and click & hold on 'Home' (where
you have the address),
in a person's card it shows 'Lookup Postcode' as well as other
Scripts such a WhereIs, WhereIs Directions, MultiMap etc.

Tony does not mention what OSX or version of Address Book he is
using.

As to why Bill can only have 'State' in lower case, I really have no
idea ??
Other than checking my Preferences, I have in 'General' Address
Format - Australia & Font - Regular.

My State is in upper case (WA).

Ronni

G'day Tony,
Hmm got me there, should be in Library/Address book Plugins/Lookup
Postcode script.
But its not. I'm not technical minded, things works for me then I'm
happy,
I just opened my address book, clicked on the tab "home"or "work"
depending on if its commercial or private address, it cascades down
and I select "lookup postcodes " from a number of options it gives.
It does say that its only been tested on 10.3.7/10.3.8 & Address
book 3.1.2 and Entourage 2004 11.1.0. and "may" not work on
others...and also reqs an active internet connection.
Hope this is some help, me I'm still trying to figure out why my
"State" in the address will only accept lower case.
I'm hoping Ronda or someone on the list can help ( both of us by
the look of it !! )

Cheers
Bill
