Hello Tom,

If you did an 'Upgrade' install of Leopard your address book is
usually imported automatically to your new system.

If you did an 'Archive and Install' and did not select "Preserve
Users and Networks Settings", it won't be imported.

But, if you have your previous home folder, the old Address book
folder will be there and you can copy your old Address Book by doing
this:

1. Quit Address Book
2. In your PREVIOUS Home Folder > Library > Application Support >
AddressBook
3. Drag and Drop that folder to the same location in your NEW Home
Folder, replacing the AddressBook folder there.

4. Open Address Book

Hi Jennifer,

I don't think you have done anything drastic at all unless you
typed anything into Terminal ;-)

The Terminal Application 'lives' in Applications > Utilities, when
you open Terminal it displays in the Dock and will stay there until
you Quit it or Close it, the same as any other application.

Unless you have dragged the Terminal Application into the Dock for
ease of use, like I have.
If you want the Terminal icon out of your Dock, just drag it off the
dock and it will 'poof' and disappear.

Hello Bill,

The simplest way to ensure that Dashboard never loads is to go to
System Preferences>Exposé & Spaces, Exposé tab. Then set the Hide and
Show hotkey for Dashboard to - so that there is no shortcut to launch
it. This way the only way it's going to launch is if you manually find
Dashboard.app and launch it.

If you want Dashboard fully disabled, you can do this with the
Terminal. Be careful, though; if you're afraid of messing something up
(which is very much a possibility when you're dealing with the
Terminal), it's best not to tinker around with the Terminal. Warnings
aside, this is what you type in to disable Dashboard:

defaults write com.apple.dashboard mcx-disabled -boolean YES

After you enter this, enter "killall Dock" (no quotes) to restart the
Dock. If you want Dashboard functionality back, type the same line
above but replace YES with NO.

Ronni

The battery is fully charged, it is in properly, and the computer

for some reason it just shuts down)

Ive reset the PRAM to no effect, nor has getting angry at it proven

Im thinking of deleting the BatteryUpdater.bundle file from the

Hello Ashley,

It is not good to run your MBP on AC power with the battery removed
- for one thing, your MBP with throttle the CPU back to 1 GHz.

Hi guys

Got a problem with my Macbook pro battery
Don't ask me what prompted me to do this but i pulled my fully
charged battery pack out the other day, and probably ran the
computer on the power adaptor for about 2 days
Thursday night i put the battery back in, removed the power
adaptor, and the computer promptly decided to shut down!!!
The battery is fully charged, it is in properly, and the computer
recognises that the battery is there cause it says it has a full
charge
I can even click on the battery status indicator at the top menu
bar, it will show the source as the power adaptor, i remove the
power adaptor and the source becomes the battery, then it shuts
down (ie, its showing that the source has become the battery, but
for some reason it just shuts down)

Ive reset the PRAM to no effect, nor has getting angry at it proven
to do anything :)
Im thinking of deleting the BatteryUpdater.bundle file from the
System Configuration file, restarting, then re-installing version

Another solution I would have suggested is to download a copy of Bento

automatically creates a database from your Address Book. You can then
simply export it as a .csv file and use it in any program which reads
csv.

flash disks --- watch out they are not really low power units eg
"sandisk" with its show light consumes so much that it only works on
certain usb ports (on pc most likely on the back of the computer, i
have seen on the pc friends place where my friend complaint about
sluggish behaviour and the flash disk was plugged in on the front, i
went under the desk & plugged the flash disk into a back
slot ...well there was the full functionality & speedand my
friend was happy

usb port have power limiters built in & normally you dont know how
much power is available on a certain usb port!!! so always try on a
number of port/computers or try to go through an external powered usb
hub

Windows makes weird use of the numeric keypad, you have to turn

Hi Ian,

Please don't take this the wrong way, but in case you don't know the

Incidently, David Pogue in his Leopard Missing Manual, writes on page

Re: address book?

2008-06-08 Thread Ronda Brown

Hello Tom,

If you did an 'Upgrade' install of Leopard your address book is
usually imported automatically to your new system.

If you did an 'Archive and Install' and did not select "Preserve Users
and Networks Settings", it won't be imported.

Ronni
