Re: iPhone - still only Optus selling unlocked ?

2008-08-06 Thread Michael Waldie
The $199 US price was not for all AT&T customers, you had to meet
certain criteria and that was the cost of it on a 24 month contract.
US prices also do not include any taxes.

But those prices do seem a fair bit higher than getting a pre paid
through Optus and unlocking it.

Re: Westnet login on Safari

2008-08-06 Thread Ronda Brown

Hello Barb & Paul,

If you are sure the Mail POP account has all the correct settings, and
the password is correct.

1. Quit Mail

2. Open Keychain Access which (if it's not showing on the top Menu of
the desktop) it is in Applications > Utilities > Keychain Access.app
and manually delete the Keychain entry for the mail account.

3. Restart Mail and it will ask for the Mail account's password
again, type in the password and tick

'Remember this password in my keychain'.

Now the password should be stored correctly and Keychain access will
do the email password in the "background" when you check for new mail.

Cheers,
Ronni

Yes the price for the unlock on Telstra is $150 - no exceptions. I put in a
complaint with the TIO as I eventually purchased the phone outright from
Telstra. However they just said it's a commercial decision and they can't do
anything.

So if you want one off plan and unlocked Optus is the way to go.

Chris.

Yeah, never had any expectation that there would be any correlation between
the street and satellite images.

An indication of the dates applicable to the particular images would however
be nice & shouldn't be too hard.

Ie is the satellite image I'm looking at 1 month, 6 month, 1 year, 5 year
old? (Similar for the street view)

Re: Google Maps "Street View"

2008-08-06 Thread Brett Clarke
SInce google doesn't own the satellites and they obtain the sat and
airial images from a third party only when they are published at
various intervals, at this point, there should be no expectation that
there is any relationship between the dates of the sat/ airial images
and those street level images collected collected by google's own bugs.

What might be interesting in 50 years time or so when google and NASA
etc have amassed sufficient image data, is for google to add a "time"
slider to google maps and streetview, that would provide a co-
ordinated (in time) view of the planet and streets so we could begin
(the nearest thing to) time travel!!!

Cheers, BRett

HeHe,

I sort of noticed the opposite round here.

The Street view photos are obviously much more recent than the
satellite

images.

So you can have the surreal situation where the street view is
showing a
house while the photo pointer on the satellite view shows you are
looking at

open space, with no signs of a building to be seen.

It would be interesting to know the photo dates, at any particular
location,

for both the satellite images and the street views!!

Just can't seem to get them to sync together.

Any ideas what I'm doing wrong?

Thanks in advance.

Re: Google Maps "Street View"

2008-08-06 Thread Barb Zahari
The satellite images of Perth, at least in my area, are over 5 years
old - I can tell from my own backyard.
I moved here Jan 30 2003 & a month or so later enclosed half the
backyard for my cats - the satellite photo shows no enclosure, so must
be prior to March 2003.

Street view of my place is definitely taken sometime after the
beginning of 2007, likely summer (either 2007 or 2007/08) from the
early morning shadows.

Also found there is almost no coverage of the whole Bellarine Peninsula
in Victoria, virtually one main road from Geelong to Torquay only.

And if you look at the Melbourne suburb of Reservoir, where one of my
sons lives, they have covered some roads but not others;
ie his house is near a T junction - the other road is covered, but not
his. I can see the junction of his road & the first 2 houses, but not
his house which is the 3rd in the street. Looking at the "blue lined"
street map of the area, quite a few streets have been missed.

Also found the satellite photos are not always accurate in pinpointing
an address.
My other son lives in London, & Google Maps marks his place a whole
block away from its actual location - I've stayed there 3 times & know
the various features of the area, so can pick out the actual corner
it's on.
