Re: I Cal

2008-09-17 Thread Ronda Brown

Hello Ken,

iCal quitting can be caused by damaged preferences files. You could
try this:
These instructions are for iCal in Tiger NOT Leopard (Leopard iCal has
a file different structure).

Make a backup of your iCal calendars (iCal File menu > Back up iCal)
1. Quit iCal and all open programs
a) Move these files in Home/Library/Preferences to the Trash:
com.apple.iCal.alarmsCache.plist
com.apple.iCal.AlarmScheduler.plist
com.apple.iCal.helper.plist
com.apple.iCal.plist

2. Launch iCal

If that doesn't help, then the Apple Sync Services database may be
damaged. Try replacing it:

a) Make sure that nothing is syncing (Spanning Sync,.Mac, iSync)
b) Move this folder to the trash: Home/Library/Application Support/
SyncServices

c) Restart your computer

3. Open iCal and give it a few minutes to write out the new database.

Let us know if this solves your problem.

Cheers,

Ronni

Re: Mouse not pairing - now working

2008-09-17 Thread Andrew Alison

Hi Bob
Yes, I run Software Update. I usually keep an eye on WAMUG before
installing updates - esp OS and iTunes etc to make sure there are no
serious issues cropping up. I always do a permissions repair before
and after installing - ?overkill. So far, I have only ever had minor
issues which have been rectified without resorting to uninstalling or
reverting to previous versions.
I also run Software Update on my Toshiba notebook to update iTunes,
Quicktime & Safari - otherwise it would mean a manual download and
install. Again, no issues to date.

So you ran software update !

There are many professionals and amateurs who will tell you that
downloading and running
the Combo update will likely clear problems found after an auto

Mouse not pairing

2008-09-17 Thread Andrew Alison

Hi all
I am having difficulty getting my Mighty Mouse to pair with my iMac
(10.5.5). It stopped responding last night. Bluetooth assistant
recognizes it but pairing fails. It will also not pair with the Mighty
Mouse from our other iMac (10.4.9). Both still work with the older
iMac. New batteries installed.

I have installed OS 10.5.5, but I'm sure it has worked since I did that.
I'm back to normal mouse in the meantime.
Any ideas?

Are you truly powering down, ie, holding the power button down for at
least 10 seconds?

Have you tried adjusting the brightness with the F2 key (this little
trick has caught me out before)?

I presume you are trying all of this with the charger attached. You
should also be sure that no other devices are connected to the
computer, including such things as Bluetooth mice.

How about the Three-Finger Salute (hold down the Control and the
Command keys, then press the power button - the computer should reboot).

Can you boot into Target Mode (hold down the "T" key at startup, and
you should be rewarded with a Firewire logo on your screen, at which
point you can connect to another computer via a Firewire cable and at
least see your hard drive).

If none of these measures or tests produce results, it's starting to
sound like a hardware problem, most likely a hard drive issue.

I updated to 1.5.5 with no problems except the trash will not empty. Even
