Looks like the problem is my end ... back to trying to solve it.

I don't really want to access in Windows Vista on my MacBook Pro ;-)

But, as I need some information today, I might just have to start up
Parallels Vista ... ggrrr

Thanks again, I appreciate you checking the site for me.

In the past, I have had problems with Commsec behaving very badly

Currently using G5/1600 with OSX 10.5.2 and Safari 3.1.1

Re: Commsec website today

2008-09-30 Thread Ronda Brown

Hi Neil and anyone else having similar problems to mine.

I was not having any problem accessing my Commonwealth Netbank or any
other of my banking sites ING or Macquarie.

The site I could not access was Commsec https://www.comsec.com.au/default.aspx?ShowSurvey=true

I have been able to isolate what was causing this and have updated the
Firmware on my (fairly new) NETGEAR Wireless-G Modem Router DG834G v4
from Firmware v5.01.01 to v5.01.09.

After updating the firmware I can now access My Portfolio on the
Comsec website.

I would suggest anyone having problems accessing similar secure sites
that they check if there is a Firmware Update for their Modem/Router.

Ronni

As far as I'm aware if you are connected to a WiFi it will show the
typical airport 'radar' type icon. All browsing will go through the
WiFi. If there is no WiFi it will connect via 3G.

Just an idea

In your system preferences Click on Network

In the TCP/IP section look for Configure IPv6 Click on
Configure IPv6 so a window appears ..

The window probably shows Configure IPv6
Automatically ! ?

If so click on the Automatically and drag down to the OFF
which will appear after clicking

This should make IPv6 off .

Click OK

Then click Apply Now located at the bottom of the Network window

Now try your banking problem

HTH

Bob

Note : you may need initially to click the lock at the bottom and
authenticate

However over the last 2 days when I restart my mac to get into the

then is ok, until the next time.

Is there any useful and reliable virus scanners I can download and use

Ian

This is a new feature of Mail 3 in Leopard, and is know as a data
detector. Data detectors work not only with phone numbers but also
with addresses and dates. Accordingly, by rolling your mouse over a
data detector you see the greyed-out box you describe. By clicking on
the triangle you are given several choices for dealing with the data
in the data detector, Dates and times can be used to create events in
iCal, while phone numbers and addresses can be used to create or
modify Address Book entries.

One of these features which Apple likes to let people discover rather
than promote from the rooftops.

Re: windows virus scanner

2008-09-30 Thread Reg Whitely
Yes that's good. I've got it on my MacBook running VM FusionWare and
XP2. It always intrigues me how Windows virusware jumps in at start-up
time, takes over your computer, updates itself then says all is Ok.
I'm still not used to that as a long-time Mac user :-))

Good morning everyone

I run XP on the Bootcamp partition on my macbook pro (10.5.2 dual 2.2

internet work.

However over the last 2 days when I restart my mac to get into the
windows side it seems to be doing a few odd things now and Im
wondering if a sneaky virus has found its way in. A blue screen shows
and says it has to check the hard drive. It does so then restarts and
then is ok, until the next time.

Is there any useful and reliable virus scanners I can download and
use
on the windows side that you guys may know about before I go
searching

on Google and get a million sites saying 'use this one'!!

Look out the window Blitto. Do you see coloured and golden- clad,
onion-shaped tower tops outside? :-))

After all, it is holiday time.

Re: windows virus scanner

2008-09-30 Thread Chris Burton

Hi Reg

thanks for the vote of confidence. I have downloaded, installed and
run the scan. It found 1 virus and some cookies. They are now history!

I also found a couple of other virus scan programs on a CNet download
site: Spyware Doctor and Antivirus Pro.

Are you familiar with these two and are they legit?

Im curious, is there an XP2 version or is that an update from
Microsoft? Can I check it somewhere on my machine to see and then
download?

Kind regards and thanks for all the advice

Re: windows virus scanner

2008-09-30 Thread Reg Whitely

I don't know them Chris

Someone, probably on WAMUG several years ago, recommended Free AVG
after I'd installed a free trial of McAfee or Nortons - can't remember
which, and it then expired, insisting I pay $$$ for the privelege
of it taking over my computer. So I installed Free AVG and have been
happy with it - not that I actually use the Windows side much. I
installed it primarily to show non-Mac believers at my school that the
MacBook leased from DET could run Windows as a matter of course.

You can set the Free AVG to automatically run at log-in, or at times
you choose; similarly with the M$ updates. My M$ updater keeps telling
me I need the Office Pro 3 updater (or something like that) then when
it downloads tells me it can't find Office Pro, so now I ignore it.

Re: banking problems

2008-09-30 Thread Ronda Brown

Hello Martin,

Your question:

networkicon coming up with this server is not available...what
does this mean

It means you are not 'finding' your ISP's Server therefore not
connecting to the Internet.
Likely to be an issue with your Network setup, or your Modem/Router,
or your ISP server might 'be down' (not available) at the time.

Check your Network Configuration settings in System Preferences
Network - that you have all the correct settings in your ISP's DNS
numbers.

Restart your Modem/Router.

How are you connecting to the internet, wire or wireless connection? I
imagine wireless.

What Modem/Router?

Cheers,
Ronni

I only know I have almost no ideas left:I experienced the same
problems with the e-mac from the workshop and with my i-mac

and the activitywwindow told me timed out
Does this mean that my downloadspeed is too slow?
Can this be improved with another router??
If another router makes the difference... what is the difference
between the 2? Maybe comparing a $500 bomb with a $1 car

I'm happy to hear from anyone
Thanks Martin

Martin

Just an idea

In your system preferences Click on Network

In the TCP/IP section look for Configure IPv6 Click on
Configure IPv6 so a window appears ..

The window probably shows Configure IPv6
Automatically ! ?

If so click on the Automatically and drag down to the OFF
which will appear after clicking

This should make IPv6 off .

Click OK

Then click Apply Now located at the bottom of the Network window

Now try your banking problem

HTH

Bob

Note : you may need initially to click the lock at the bottom and
authenticate
