Re: Emac went dim
Looks like another visit to the Apple Ed Shop. This time, a nice iMac. Back it all up Sam and start browsing the Ed shop. 27 maybe. I've had the computer for a few years now and never seen this before. Hi Sam, Look closely at the screen, can you still see the icons in the background? If you can and it seems extremely dark, then your problem is likely an LCD inverter board. This isn't a terribly expensive part but getting it replaced might not be cheap labor wise. An LCD inverter is what powers the backlight for the screen. I would suggest you backup everything you need on your computer to an external Hard Drive, as the eMac could well be on its way out. These shared libraries are only available across the network if the 'owner' is logon and has Bento active. I always follow what you have said when a staff member leaves. Yes I can Export the shared libraries. An option is to create a virtual staff member and store the shared libraries in that logon and logon to this at the beginning of the day. The ideal location would be a computer that is being used as a file server. Just put Bento in the Login Items for the account for that computer so that it always starts when the computer is restarted. The next best option would probably be an account which never changes, such as that which might be on a receptionist's computer. Again, Bento could be set to launch on login for that account, and just sit in the background keeping the library open. -- Peter HinchliffeApwin Computer Services FileMaker Pro Solutions Developer Perth, Western Australia Phone (618) 9332 6482Mob 0403 064 948 Mac because I prefer it -- Windows because I have to. -- The WA Macintosh User Group Mailing List -- Archives - http://www.wamug.org.au/mailinglist/archives.shtml Guidelines - http://www.wamug.org.au/mailinglist/guidelines.shtml Unsubscribe - mailto:wamug-unsubscr...@wamug.org.au -- The WA Macintosh User Group Mailing List -- Archives - http://www.wamug.org.au/mailinglist/archives.shtml Guidelines - http://www.wamug.org.au/mailinglist/guidelines.shtml Unsubscribe - mailto:wamug-unsubscr...@wamug.org.au

Is there any place in the greater Perth area that will accept old computer bits such as hard disks, component boards, and even whole computers? It would be a pity to just put the stuff in the wheelie-bin. Ray There used to be a place in Osborne Park at 2/27 Collingwood St that took computers and printers etc.. Not sure about individual bits. You could give them a call on 9244 9048 or www.recyceit.net.au and see if they are still there Regards Allen On 14/02/2010, at 1:26 PM, Ray Forma wrote: Is there any place in the greater Perth area that will accept old computer bits such as hard disks, component boards, and even whole computers?
