Re: HP laser Jet 5MP

2010-04-07 Thread Ronda Brown
Hi David,

I was just searching back through the archives for your previous emails re:
this problem. Found this where you mentioned:
> Can I set up a system whereby I am printing remotely
> via the G3 to the 5MP, set up as the G3's printer? This would entail
> having the G3 switched on and active?

Have you tried enabling printer sharing in System Preferences on the G3 or G4
iMac (that is running Leopard)?
You should then be able to print from the 'Snow Leopard Computer' to the HP 5MP
that is sharing its connection from the Leopard iMac.

As long as the other computer is on and awake, the HP 5MP should show up in the
printer menu.
It will show something like HP 5MP @ the computers name.

Select it like any other and print. It possibly will take a little longer to
print, but should work.

Another way might be to purchase a 36 pin USB to parallel IEEE1284 Printer
Adapter Cable connect it to your HP LaserJet 5 MP.

I think I sent the information below to you previously.

Hi David,

If the Printer gives a 'paused' rather than 'ready', that often indicates that
you're not using a compatible driver (or the driver didn't install properly).
When you click 'Resume' does it go back to 'Paused'?

My expertise stops at installing the driver...for me it worked.
You've done all the obvious things like disconnecting and reconnecting the
printer, switching it off and on, restarting the system, etc?
If so, maybe a general call to the experts is warranted...

It sounds a bit drastic but one method that works very well (I've tried it
myself) is to put the keyboard in the dishwasher! You must avoid soap, and
preferably have nothing else in the dishwasher at the time. You must also
ensure that the keyboard is completely dry before using it (I hung mine on the
clothesline for three days). As with all things, proceed at your own risk.

I find that with the new aluminium keyboards a simply wipe down with a damp

Hi Peta,

Just adding to Daniel's expert advice.
Sometimes when you transfer applications across, especially if you are coming
from another version of OS X (OS X 10.5 to 10.6), you find you need to either
re-install some applications or at least have to put in the serial numbers
again.

I have had two replacement Logic Boards for my 17" MacBook Pro and each time I
have found I needed to re-install quite a lot of applications. Some just needed
to be re-activated or Serial Numbers added.
I remember particularly Adobe Acrobat Professional 8 & CS4 required
re-installing and activating.

Cheers,
Ronni

Hi Peta

Sounds like a few issues going on there.
For the Epson one, it may pay to remove the printer and reset it up then see
how it goes.

For the Adobe software you can deactivate it on the old machine which then
allows you to active it on the new machine.
Other programs can be similar.

Hope that helps.

Re: epson stylus photo R310 Printer

2010-04-07 Thread peta belczowski
Thank you to all who replied to my Epson printer problem.

Yes, I had discovered "LITE" when following Daniel's instructions.

Also the message "the printer is not registered" once I arrived at this point;
therefore I apparently cannot take things any further.

Possibly my previous Mac had all the registration details. When my husband
bought me my lovely Mac OS X, which of course has Snow Leopard, and I connected
the external hard drive (which Daniel had installed onto my first Mac), all
programs etc transferred/copied beautifully to this machine and I was soo
impressed.

The "ink level status and buttons for “Nozzle Check” and “Head Cleaning”, not
highlighted, cannot use.

Problems - when we have bought programs for another Mac, I believe the newer
Mac needs re-registering with new reg. numbers.

For example, with my first earlier Mac I had bought and paid for Adobe. I was
too busy learning and re-educating my ways of doing things from a PC and had
never used the Adobe program. Now, although it has transferred to my new Mac,
I cannot use the program.

Too time consuming in today's world - of course I want instant results!

Peta

Re: HP laser Jet 5MP

Hi Mike --

-- Thanks very much for the suggestions. I've followed them through,
but can't get to the working stage. I can get tthough to "System
Preferences > Print & Fax > (select your printer or add a new one) >
Options & Supplies > Driver" and find the driver 'HP Laserjet 5MP
Foomatic/hpijs' but can't establish the printer.

-- Under 'Print & Fax', clicking the '+' at the bottom of the printer
list brings up 'Add Printer'. I added a printer I called HP 5MP, it
shows 'kind' as 'HP Laserjet 5MP Foomatic/hpijs', but attempting to
print gives 'printer paused', Job Info gives 'Unable to locate printer
' 'Add '!'. Any idea what needs doing here?

Can anyone recommend a method/product for cleaning keyboards of that
