2010-09-17 Thread Peder Kristensen

Hi All,

If have a Nikon DSL and like to set up a tethering session, then you can get a
free app from http://www.sofortbildapp.com/
It does not have live view … but it’s not bad, after all it’s free.

Happy snapping.

Cheers,
Peder

Best mobile internet solution for Mac in Thailand - sh ort term ?

2010-09-17 Thread Steven Knowles

Does anyone happen to travel to Thailand with their Mac and know about mobile
internet solutions there?

I have a 17 MacBook Pro (2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, maybe 3.5 years old now)
running MacOSX 10.6.4. I'm going to Thailand for maybe 2 or 3 weeks, and will
probably drive around a lot, staying at wherever I stumble across at night.
Ideally I'd like internet access whether I'm stationery or not.

I have an iPhone 3G in case that's helpful, but I imagine a dedicated USB
dongle of some kind will be better in terms of speed. I prefer speed over cost,
but obviously the cheaper the better, particularly in terms of buying hardware
which may be useless beyond Thailand. Proven Snow Leopard-friendliness ranks
high also.

Suggestions appreciated.

Cheers, Steven

dvds

2010-09-17 Thread thefrogs

I have noticed that some of the dvds I have burned are already failing- you can
see the data layer coming away from the plastic disc.
My question is: which DVD companies make the most reliable and robust discs

Possibly Kodak, they do gold archival disks which you can buy in Woolworth
supermarkets, but they are quite expensive. I think Kodak rate their estimated
life in the hundreds of years.

Hi Tom,

Verbatim DVD-R, Verbatim DVD+R and Verbatim DVD+R Double-Layer discs, or JVC
Talyo Yuden.

I've used Verbatim for years and highly recommend them.

Hi Paul,

Gold Discs are not the best discs, they have lousy reflectivity, and the dye
quality found on these blanks simply does not burn well.

2010-09-17 Thread Marlene Oostryck

Hello Tom

I have done quite a lot of research into the most reliable blank DVDs
and the consensus seems to be that genuine Taiyo Yuden discs are the
best - ie archival quality lasting 50 - 100 years!!
It is important that they are genuine Taiyo Yuden - Made in Japan -
and should be sealed in the TY packaging if possible. Also, consider
the difference between OEM and Master quality.
Also, if you want archival-type storage give some thought to inert
archival quality envelopes/cases.

More info at:

2010-09-17 Thread James / Hans Kunz
i'm using tdk for many years, no drop outs yet, you anyway should bear
in mind never i say never use the highest burn speed, spend/allocate
time and burn on 16x for audio cd 4x on dvds, giving the laser more
time to melt the layer improves the reliability greatly
