Re: Photoshop course

2011-06-02 Thread Jon Davison

I'm not sure if this is okay to do or not on this forum, so please
excuse the promo?

I am running an Intro to Photoshop course this weekend at the
Futuresphere, Christ Church Grammar School (4th and 5th June). $175
for the two days, so a bargain! notes supplied,

tea, coffee and biscuits as well. Latest iMacs with Photoshop CS5.

Short notice I know but we have a few places left if anyone is
interested. Contact me off list.

Kind regards
Jon

To do this on your computer open system preferences choose language

Re: How to burn/convert .mkv files using Toast 11

2011-06-02 Thread Ronda Brown

Hi Matt,

Toast 11 can convert MKV and burn to DVD.
DVD format is MPEG-2

When you selected ‘Burn’ did you check the ‘Write Speed’ to make sure it was
not any faster than “4XDVD"

Toast automatically encodes/converts the MKV files and then burns a DVD

may be you have to do the conversion with 'mpeg streamclip'
(http://www.squared5.com/) from your mkv to mpeg2 format & burn the mpeg2 to
the dvd with toast

How to burn/convert .mkv files using Toast 11

2011-06-02 Thread Matt Falvey

Hi, I am having a very unusual problem with 5 .mkv video files. I have 5
episodes of a show that I want to put onto DVD's. Each file is virtually the
same size (628.5MB, 624.7MB, 633.8MB, 631.6MB and 632.8MB), the Permissions rw
r r (644) the same, the size 832 x 468 pixels.

In the first instance I put the individual files into Quicktime Pro and
Converted them and then burned them, but the .mkv format has the bottom third
of the picture obscured with massive subtitles (in allegedly English) of an
English language program, which can't be turned off, as it is burned onto the
disc.

So I found a work around. I opened Toasted 11 > Clicked Video > Selected >
DVD-Video >Clicked Finish>dropped the .mkv file into it and selected burn and
Toasted chugged away for about 4-5 hours and produced an approx. 3.5GB DVD
without the subtitles. Brilliant.

So I did this for the first 3 files without any problems. Then I put the fourth
one in, I noticed that when the Toast main window shrank down to the small
conversion window after I pressed burn, that the time ribbon seemed to be
moving a lot faster than it had on the previous conversions. Sure enough it
did and moved much faster and after about a minute or so at about 15%, Toast
crashed. The same happened when I tried the Fifth file. No matter what I have
tried I have not been able to get these last two files to burn under the same
conditions as the first three.

Now I know that Toast is able to do the job as it has done it to the first
three. But what I don't know is what it actually did to the first three. All I
know is it burnt the Disc using some code or codec?

Does anyone have any idea what code/codec/format that Toast would have used to
convert those first three files, so I can manually set it either in the Toast
Convert section or using Quicktime or something similar to ensure that the file
is converted in the same manner as had been the case on the previous
conversions?

Thanks

Matt
