Hi Robert,

Firstly, I don't know anything at all about Joomia.

Some time back I moved my MobileMe hosted iWeb created website, to another
Hosting Service (HostingServicesWA).

Basically; In iWeb - Publish to: Local Folder on my hard drive instead of to
.Mac and then uploaded the folder contents to my server via FTP.
I purchased Transmit 4 as my FTP client program (after a lot of research to
find the best FTP client program).

Originally I tried publishing directly from iWeb to FTP Server, but that did
not work successfully and found Publish To: Local Folder, and then use a good
FTP program (Transmit 4) to do the heavy work of uploading to my Server worked
perfectly.

Cheers,
Ronni

if its a wired mouse, check if there is dirt in the wheels or optics, also
consider broken wires in the usb cable, loosing connection can cause a pointer
reset (going to the start point)...

Oops. Got the two devices reversed. Thanks Ronni.

So I am still curious about all of what I asked except where it says unplug the
trackpad, switch it off instead, and vice versa.

The last part still applies as well. Leaving your pen resting on the trackpad
(the wireless one as well) can cause unwanted results.

Re: Pointer problems

2012-05-09 Thread cm
Hi Ken,

As well as Ronni's relevant question I have some other things you could try to
determine if the problem lies with the wireless mouse or the trackpad.

Does the problem stop when you unplug the trackpad? If the problem is still
there, try plugging the trackpad back in and switching off the wireless mouse.
If one or the other works by itself let us know.

A final though as this happens to me sometimes when I use a mouse and a
trackpad together. Are you resting the pen down on the trackpad when you are
not using it? If you are the trackpad keeps insisting on moving the mouse
pointer back to a fixed position.

Regards,
Carlo

OS X 10.7.4 Lion update

2012-05-09 Thread cm
Hi Muggers,

There is an update for OS X Lion that fixes the problem with windows reopening
even when the feature is disable. It also includes a security fix to prevent

Hi Ken,

Others may know this so at the risk of asking an obvious question what do mean
by a "desktop pointer"?

Re: Hard Drive Question ?

2012-05-09 Thread cm
Hi Stephen,

Using an encrypted sparse bundle as outlined by Ray is indeed an option. If you
son is running OS X Lion he also has the option of encrypting the entire
external drive using FileVault. The new FileVault method has a few advantages
over the older sparse bundle method but be warned that you will only be able to
read the drive on machines running Lion.

Here is a step-by-step tutorial for encrypting an external drive with FileVault.

http://www.macworld.com/article/1161415/lion_encrypt_external_drive.html

Note that the security scare regarding passwords being visible when using
FileVault does not apply to this situation as you are using the Lion version of
FileVault on Lion and not the Snow Leopard version of FileVault on Lion. (It
does not apply to sparse bundle method either.)

Cheers,
Carlo

Re: Hard Drive Question ?

2012-05-09 Thread Ray Forma
Stephen,

On any drive use Disk Utility to create a 'New Image' on that drive. The name
you choose for 'Save as' will be the name of the .sparseimage file you are
creating. The name you give for 'Name:' further down is the name of the virtual
disk that appears whenever you open the .sparseimage file you are creating. If
this is a bit confusing then create a small experimental image and play with it
till you get the idea. The trash the experiment and build a new 'New Image'.

Give the image a suitable name. Then use the following settings: For size
choose the biggest size you think you'll need, but read about 'sparse disk
image' below before deciding. Use 'Mac OS Extended (Journaled)'. For encryption
use 128-bit AES Encryption. Use 'Single partition - GUID Partition Map'. For
Image Format use 'sparse disk image' so the image will grow in size as you add
files to it, till it reaches the maximum size you chose earlier.

Click on 'Create'. You will then be asked for a password for access to that
image. Use a strong password and make it memorable because I suggest you don't
add it to your keychain, especially if the image is going reside on a
peripatetic drive.

When finished, you end up with a file with a .sparseimage filename extension on
the chosen hard disk. When you double click on that image file the Finder will
ask for the password before opening the image as a virtual disk drive that
shows up as a mounted disk. You can then save the files you want encrypted on
that virtual drive. [A virtual drive is not a real physical drive. A virtual
drive is a data structure that behaves as if it was a real physical drive, but
that structure lives as single file on the physical drive of your choice].

Ejecting the virtual disk will make it disappear from your directory of
available disks, but the data will be safely residing in the
.sparseimage file on the chosen HD.

Beware: Never drag the .sparseimage file to the trash or delete that
file in any other way as you will lose all of the encrypted files contained in
that image. Also, if you forget the password to open that image, you can say
goodbye to all its enclosed files.

The big advantage of the encrypted image file is that it is easy to back up
onto another medium.

Pointer problems

2012-05-09 Thread Kenneth Woods
Hi everyone,

I am having a small problem with desktop pointer on my iMac. It keeps going
ack to the top right hand corner of the screen.

Whenever I try to move it using either the mouse or the trackpad, it moves a
few centimetres and then jumps back to the top r/h corner.

The iMac is a few years running the current version of lion.

Any ideas would be very much appreciated.

Many thanks

Ken

Hard Drive Question ?

2012-05-09 Thread Stephen Chape
Hi folks,

My step son who lives in Dubai bought a new external backup drive recently.
It was an Iomega Prestige Portable 1TB.

Because he is always travelling around the world, he needs the data encrypted.
However when he got it home he noticed printed in the instructions "can only be
encrypted for Windows".
Because the shop told him it was Mac compatible, he took it back and was
refunded.

I don't know anything about encryption, so how do you go about encrypting data
on an HD formatted for the Mac ? Does the drive need to come with that ability,
or can it be added to any drive ?

Re: Sharing folders

2012-05-09 Thread Ian Reid
Hi Ronni

Sorry for the delayed reply but I can now get the shared folders on to my
desktop, albeit with a few minor differences set out below. Many thanks.

Ian Reid

Hi Ian,

You don't need to print the documents, save the documents (the attachments)
from the emails to a folder on Margaret's Desktop.
Then share that Folder.

A) On Margaret's iMac:
1. Create a Folder on her Desktop
2. Name it Financial Statements (or what ever you wish)
3. Then follow my previous instructions 1 to 3 below to share that folder.

To add a folder or mounted drive, follow these steps:

1. In the Sharing preference pane, under the Shared Folders list, click the +
button.

2. Select the folder or drive that you want to share. For folders, navigate to
the item (Desktop > Financial Statements), and make sure it’s selected.

No problem, all other folders were "greyed out"

3. Click Add.

There’s no additional “apply” button; the folder or drive is now available for
sharing, and it appears in the Shared Folders list.

B) Then on your MBP:

1. Open you Home (little house ian)

2. In the Sidebar - Under 'Shared'
You will see the shared folder "Financial Statements"

3. Click on the "Financial Statements" and you will be quickly connected to
that folder.
You can then drag the "Financial Statements" Folder to your Desktop
You will be asked to enter the Name & Password of the Administrator (Margaret)
of the iMac.

4. After you have finished copying the Financial Statements Folder to your
Desktop

5. Click 'Disconnect' to disconnect from Margaret's iMac

I drag and dropped the Statements folder to the desktop but it was only an
alias, so I had to maintain the sharing until I had finished using the
individual statements. Otherwise it couldn't be found.

Thanks again. Kind regards.

Ian

Cheers,
Ronni
