Re: LASERWRITER 360

2012-12-26 Thread Ronni Brown
Hi Jewels,

What operating system did you have the Laserwriter 360 working on?
How did you have the Laserwriter 360 connected to your Mac via Ethernet or USB
or?
Can you see it's IP Address?

A normal Lion install includes a lot of PPDs, still including LaserWriters, but
from what I can find out only the "Generic PostScript Printer PPD" will work
with your Apple Laserwriter in Lion.

1. In System Preferences > Print & Fax - click the [+ ]Plus icon & then the IP
icon
2. As it is an old Printer start with Line Printer Daemon – LPD
3. Address: type in it's IP Address
4. Print Using: "Generic PostScript Printer" use the arrows to locate.
Be sure to choose "Select Printer Software" from the "Print Using" menu, and
search for "LaserWriter 360" from the printer list.
Choose the driver and add the printer.

Have a read here:

I don't think there is anymore I can suggest to help you, you might need to get
someone to have a look at it for you, to see if is is possible to setup this
Laserwriter 360 in Lion.

Cheers,
Ronni

Ok, thanks Ronni, I figured that but is there a conclusive way to verify the
connection is via the extender and not bypassing it?

Re: Airport Extreme as a WiFi network range extender

2012-12-26 Thread Ronni Brown
Hi Pete,

Boy, I that has taken a long time, had completely forgotten about this issue.

It is the SAME Network, the Airport Extreme is just extending the Time
Capsule's WirelessNetwork, not creating a NEW wireless Network.
If you followed my instructions correctly, and it sounds like you have...
everything should be working fine.

It is easy when you have the proper instructions ;-))

Cheers,
Ronni

Re: Airport Extreme as a WiFi network range extender

2012-12-26 Thread Peter Crisp
Hi Ronni, (refer the topic below) Merry Christmas and New Year to you and all
the other WAMUGgers out there.

Per the topic below, I just managed to do the set up of this now (a bit slow I
know) and it all seemed to go text book easy. Which makes me suspicious because
networks setups always have been very stressful for me.

Once I set up the Extreme as the "extender", I shifted it to the room at the
back of the house where the signal was a bit weak, it seemed to hook up with
green light in around 15-20 seconds. I was expecting another network to come up
in the drop down below Airport to connect to with the name of the "extender"
but twas not the case. There was still the original network name in the list
which remained connected. Is this the "extended" network?

I tested the transmit rate and it has come up from ~70 to ~130 so I think the
"extender" is connected, but how can I be sure? I get transmit rate ~270 in the
living area near to the Time Capsule base.

Thanks again for simple instructions Ronni.

Regards

Pete...

Re: LASERWRITER 360

2012-12-26 Thread Ronni Brown
Hi Jewels,

I don't think you will be able to download the software for Lion.
You can use the "Generic PostScript Printer PPD" drivers that come loaded with
Lion OS X 10.7.5
The only one that is reliable is the "Generic PostScript".

Cheers,
Ronni

Re: Mac issue.

Hi Mac,

Pete will have to join WAMUG to be able to post to the list.

This kext is third-party, correct? That means installed by non-Apple software
and not part of OS X.
He probably has an old version of Toast - Spin Doctor installed.
It is a part of Spin Doctor from Roxio - if you have toast, you probably have
Spin Doctor, even if you don't use it.
He will need to update it.

Re: iPad problem

2012-12-26 Thread John Thompson
Thanks for the reply Ronni.
I sent this in some days ago but for some reason, the list held distribution
until the Moderator could review is for approval. Something new??
In the meantime, after cooling down a little, I found the reset instruction on
the Apple site. All is now fine. Don't know how this thing occurred in the
first place but computers are things of wonder (I wonder what I should do next).

Re: Accessing Time Machine

2012-12-26 Thread Ronda Brown
Hi Jennifer,

Ah only Mail messages I think I remember when you were having problems
with your old Mac freezes, that you were in Snow Leopard. If this is the case
your mail now you have upgraded to Mountain Lion Mail is a different database
to the SL Mail database, so most likely you will be unable to access any of the
old SL emails through Time Machine.

Wait until the person who setup your new iMac is back from Holidays and he
possibly will be able to manually locate the email message for you. Or he will
be able to resend the message you mention below :-)

Also some of your Mailboxes might need to do a Rebuild.

Not much cooler than Perth down my way , probably one degree or so. It was nice
when little Perez and I went for our 5KM walk this morning @ 5AM though. But
we have just come home from delivering a late Christmas present to one of the
family... And immediately we entered our house, I turned the Air Conditioner
on!!

Cheers,
Ronni

Hi again John,

On reading your original email again, Perhaps you have not entered a Recipient
in the Address Bar?

Tap where the Recipients Name should be, it turns blue, Re-Enter a recipients
name and your email should be live again for completion or deletion.

Cheers,

2012-12-26 Thread John Thompson
My apologies in advance for this.
Somehow a blank draft screen has come up on Mail on the iPad (3) and I am
unable to remove it. No amount of trying seems to have any effect and
consequently the app is unusable. Have tried all I know including trying to
power the thing down but it doesn't want to respond.

Re: iPad problem

2012-12-26 Thread Ronni Brown
Hi John,

First thing to try is a Reset:

Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for
at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears. Release the Buttons.

If a Reset does not fix the problems post back.

Cheers,
Ronni

You did enter Time Machine from the Mail window to see the backups listed in

Re: Accessing Time Machine

2012-12-26 Thread Ronda Brown
Hi Jennifer,

Without knowing how you transferred all your data and settings from the old Mac
to new iMac?
Or what OS X version was on the old computer and now on the new iMac, it is
hard to answer your question.

When you first connected your Time Machine backup to the new iMac you would
have been asked do you want to create a new backup, inherit backup, or Reuse
Backup. Depending on what OS X you were using for the TM backups prior to the
new iMac

If you choose Inherit Backup (or Reuse Backup), Time Machine will "add on" to
the existing set of backups.

Cheers,
Ronni
