Apple TV, iMac and Sound Preferences

2013-09-16 Thread Marcus F Harris
Hi, I tried to switch playing music in iTunes from Apple TV back to my iMac
desktop.
The sound preferences window, didn't show the iMac as a choice .
I turned off the Apple TV and that didn't change anything.
I then restarted the iMac and low and behold sound was available as a choice on
the iMac.
Is there some way to avoid this process of switching from Apple TV back to
iMac? Hopefully I didn't miss something obvious!

Restart Problem

2013-09-16 Thread Paul Willemse
Hi All,

I run a setup with two screens and 4 Desktops. My problem is that after a
restart the system does not remember either the display arraignment or the
Desktop contents. In other words I must completely rebuild the setup each time.
I do a lot of software development and the time it takes to rebuild is
expensive...

I almost never restart or power down, but it came up again this time when I ran
the Combo upgrade to OSX 10.5.8. I followed Ronni's suggestions to the letter.

Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Regards,

Paul

Good morning all,

Just replaced my bluetooth keyboard batteries.

The method below actually works. Worth watching the 90 sec. clip. Pretty cool.

 Hi Marcus,

I am not a technician... but I would imagine that as long as the battery
physically fits (including the connector), there would be no problem using
a higher capacity 1200mAh replacement battery in your iPod.

I think as long as you purchase from a reliable vendor that states the
battery will fit your particular model, you will be ok.

 Cheers,

 Hi Marcus,

We would need more exact detail of your Model iPod for anyone to give any
 advise.
What is your iPod's model number (located on the rear of the iPod)?
 eg: Model A1059 - 4th Generation; A1136 - 5th generation?

I have a feeling that the 2005 iPod 4th Generation or Photo
 Model A1059 or A1099 / 20, 40, or 60 GB hard drive / touch sensitive click
 wheel had
 rechargeable lithium-ion (Li-ion) 900 mAh Battery.

I have an iPod Classic 60GB Click Wheel Photo. I think it's late 2005. It
has served me well as my music player.
It has a serial number which end SAZ.
I discovered that Apple will charge me $65 for a battery and probably $200
 for the service.
If I can get the right battery, a local hero will instal it for $49.
I discovered a website in the US batteryupgrade.com, which will sell one
 for A$40.86 delivered.
The question I am asking is can anyone tell me which battery I need as
there seems to be a 1200mAh HiCap and a 900mAh.
I suppose I could order tham both and still be well ahead, but I would
prefer to get it right first time.
 Any one know?

Re: Apple TV, iMac and Sound Preferences

2013-09-16 Thread Alan Smith
Hello Marcus

I have no problems with the various options of playing music around my home
network. I can't replicate your problem.

How are you attempting to switch music from AppleTV back to the iMac? Is this
a new problem since, say, OSX 10.8.5 update? Are you referring to Apple
Preferences - Sound, the Apple TV Settings, or the iTunes icon to choose
which speakers to use? Do you initially choose the music from
AppleTV/television or from iTunes?

If you switch via the iTunes icon, then are your various devices visible
initially?I have choice of Computer, AppleTV or Airport Express. Do you
have Single or Multiple option selected? What displays when the problem
happens?

I find the Apple Preferences - Sound to be unstable on rare occasions. When
this happens the ticked item does not work. I generally get it working again
by ticking another item and back to the output (or input) I want. But all
choices are still displayed.

Cheers
Alan.

Re: Restart Problem

Hi Paul,

I do not understand what you mean exactly...
I think you are running OS X 10.8.5 not OS X 10.5.8?

My questions and comments below in Situ

Do you mean Mac Pro plus one external display, or Mac Pro with 2 external

My problem is that after a restart the system does not remember either the
display arraignment or the Desktop contents.

In Mission Control - you have setup 4 Desktops (virtual screens)... The
'Primary' - Desktop 1, plus Desktop 2, Desktop 3 Desktop 4

When you restart your Mac it will always display your 'Primary' - Desktop 1
As Desktop 1 is always your Main Desktop.

In other words I must completely rebuild the setup each time.

All 4 Desktops should still be showing when you open Mission Control in the
Dock?
Showing what ever wallpaper (background) Applications or kind of programs you
have 'assigned' to each Desktop, perhaps some you might have assigned to 'All'
Desktops.

I do a lot of software development and the time it takes to rebuild is
