Hi Maureen
I'd be interested in participating.  But not sure if I am a paid up
member or not!  Are you able to check?
ThanksWendy

Hello fellow wamuggers
I hope you are all keeping safe and well. The events of the last five
months have certainly resulted in changes to our lifestyles and
behaviours. Hopefully, it will not be too long before we can resume
those parts of our lives that we miss the most.
With the restrictions on meetings of no more than two people, the
WAMUG committee has had to cancel our General and Committee
meetings.  That’s when the idea of using Zoom, the video
conferencing panacea to Covid -19 iso, for our committee meeting
evolved. We had a go and soon realised the potential of this app,
especially for our General meetings.  Having Zoom meetings would
allow any member to participate no matter where they live.
So, we want to have an 'exploratory' Zoom session with more than just
five people, and we need some volunteers. If you can help out by
participating, we would love to hear from you.
THE SESSION WILL TAKE PLACE NEXT TUESDAY, 12 MAY AT 7:30 PM AND WILL
LAST FOR 40 MINUTES.
There is no need to sign up to Zoom. Participants will receive an
email link to the meeting, a Meeting ID and Password. Added to this
security is the fact that the meeting host, Peter Hinchcliff, has to
'admit' members. (Does that means he is a digital bouncer).  With
extra numbers, we will be able to get a better feel of how Zoom works
rather than relying on Youtube faux pas and media reported failures
and from your feedback see if it is worth pursuing further.
If you would like to participate, please email me.  We are limiting
this session to 12 paid up members, so first in best dressed.
Thank you in anticipation and remain safe.
Kind regards,Maureen Smith

Re: Not receiving original WAMUG emails

2020-05-07 Thread Daniel Kerr
Hi Graham

I’ve had a look and there isn’t “blocking” your subscription on the mailing
list. And all settings for your subscription there are normal. So I’ve removed
you and re-added you to see if it resolves the issue.
Unfortunately, there aren’t all that many settings beyond the scenes to
actually adjust.
But see how it goes. If still have an issue I will forward it to the people the
server is hosted on to see if they can see anything.
But I have found that some hosted servers and iinet have a bit of an issue with
some emails not receiving (and sending). Only common factor I found sees to be
it was iinet somewhere along the “chain”.
See how it goes and let me know. (Either on-list or off list)

Kind regards
Daniel

Re: Can you zoom into help?

2020-05-07 Thread Neil Houghton
Hi all,

Being down here in Albany, I could never attend meetings in Perth – so I would
definitely be interested in online meetings - but are you all happy with the
security issues of Zoom? eg these articles:

Who has banned Zoom? Google, NASA, and more
https://www.techrepublic.com/article/who-has-banned-zoom-google-nasa-and-more/
Using Zoom while working from home? Here are the privacy risks to watch out for
https://www.cnet.com/news/using-zoom-while-working-from-home-here-are-the-privacy-risks-to-watch-out-for/
Zoom security issues: Zoom could be vulnerable to foreign surveillance, intel
report says
https://www.cnet.com/news/zoom-security-issues-zoom-could-be-vulnerable-to-foreign-surveillance-intel-report-says/

Among other problems, they talk about malicious agents being able to gain
access, on Macs, to the computer camera and mic. However, I have never really
looked at or tried Zoom – so the security steps you mentioned may well avoid
most of the risks – and I would be happy to participate in the trial on Tuesday.

As I understand it, there are several different ways for me to do this:
Desktop computer or tablet/smartphone
Dedicated desktop/ios software or via web browser – Safari or Firefox?

Are there any particular setups which you have tried/not tried or
recommend/don’t recommend?

My main IMac is currently out of action and I am working from my (older) 2nd
iMac – so my available options are probably:
iMac (24-inch, Mid 2007) – El Capitan 10.11.6 – Zoom desktop app
iMac (24-inch, Mid 2007) – El Capitan 10.11.6 – FirefoxESR web session via
https://join.zoom.us/
iMac (24-inch, Mid 2007) – El Capitan 10.11.6 – Safari web session via
https://join.zoom.us/
iPad4 – IOS 10.3.4 – Zoom IOS app
iPad4 – IOS 10.3.4 – Safari web session via https://join.zoom.us/

Any thoughts as to which might be best or any to avoid?

Cheers

Neil

Not receiving original WAMUG emails

2020-05-07 Thread Graham Rabe
For some time now I’ve not been receiving the first (original) message from the
group. If there is a follow-up response, I get that email with the original
email below. For example, I never received the first email regarding the zoom
trial – I only saw it when there was a response to that.

I’ve been a paid up member of WAMUG for many years and have paid my subs for
this year.

If anyone at HQ (or anyone else) could sort this problem out for me, I’d
appreciate it.

I’m also happy to volunteer for the zoom trial.

Thanks,

Graham Rabe
