Mac anti-virus / spyware?

2008-11-10 Thread Antony Lord
Tell me people - what are you using these days for anti-virus / anti-
spyware on your Macs?

I was using Virex but it was an awful bit of bloatware that I found
thoroughly annoying.

Would love to hear what's working in the field!

Cheers, Antony.

Re: Leopard - The Temperamental Big Cat pt II

2008-10-11 Thread Antony Lord

In my last episode Leopard "ate" my two SATA drives on a Sonnet card.

Thanks to a Directory Rebuild from Alsoft's Disk Warrior all is well
on that front and they're mounting fine.

I'd still like to recover my missing In box from Eudora as my Backups
are like Confession - its been a while... ;)

I thought the best approach (for starters anyway) would be to image
the drive (not the system drive) where my mail folder lives and do the
recovery from the image.

When trying to make the image the latest version of Carbon Copy Cloner
fails with "the image creation process failed" when trying to make a
sparse image to another drive. Hmmm...

I'm trying to get Disk Utility to make a read / write (.dmg) image and
see if that works (can't work out how to force it to make a sparse
image).

Would love to hear any pointers people might have!

Cheers, Antony.

Where did mail.mac.com go?

2008-03-19 Thread Antony Lord
Anyone know where mail.mac.com went?

It seems to to have been unreachable for about 12 hours.

I'm getting "destination host unreachable" from multiple sites.

I really think Apple has failed badly with the mac.com mail service -
it seems to have these kind of problems every couple of months and
they last for hours. Gmail, Hotmail and a host of other mail providers
(than I don't even have to pay for) provide better reliability than
this!

Cheers, Antony.
