Re: iMac G5 - Screen Spanning
Thanks for that one Joel, My imac 1Ghz now has a 35" (15"+ 20" ) monitor - great! Apparently the graphics chips in the iBook series and iMac G4 all supported screen spanning - but in a bid to further disinguish the "Pro" from the "Consumer" series of machines, Apple crippled this functionality. (They've done it again with the slower FSB on the iMac G5s haven't they?) I haven't personally had a need to use this hack (PowerBook user) but, many iBook G3/G4 and iMac G4 users have used this hack with success. All the same, I'd recommend checking out their forums and other people's experience with it before taking the plunge...afterall a hack is still a hack. http://rutemoeller.com/mp/ibook/forum/ Here is the homepage for this hack, aptly called the "Screen Spanning Doctor" http://macparts.de/ibook/ I'm guessing/ hoping that this hack will also work with the new iMac G5s, but we'll have to wait till reports trickle in from users who have tried it. Filemaker not printing EPS files properly.
Hi All, I am working with Applescript and Barcode Generator to automate the creation and insertion of barcodes into records. ...but having trouble getting Filemaker Pro (v6) to print the EPS files (barcodes imported from Barcode Generator). Illustrator will parse and print the EPS file o'k. Even TIFF files don't seem to want to work with Filemaker. And yet if I copy the TIFF to photoshop then import into Filemaker I get reasonable results. Any advice or assistance would be greatly appreciated. Hi Wamuggians, I have a friend with an imac running OS10.2. I have burned a CD for him which will not even mount on his desktop. it mounts fine in both my PMG3 and even in my old PM6100/66. Can anyone advise me of any possible reasons/solutions so that I can help him out? (It's getting serious as he's talking about going over to the dark side!) TIA Dean

Problems with toast 5 on Mac OSX
Hi, I have an Imac running OSX with a superdrive. I have just purhcased a digital video camera to transfer through it 56, 45 minute VHS-C cassettes, to digitalize and edit on Imovie. Because the finished product will still only have the analogue resolution, I have been told: - that the best method for storing the finished movies is back out onto the DV tape and; - that the best method for showing them is to burn them to CD to create VCD's as putting them on DVD would not improve the image quailty and would be quite costly. Is this true? I have also been told that the super drive or any on board software will not let me burn to CD to create VCD's. I was told to find some other software to do that. Someone has mentioned that perhaps it can be done through Quicktime or through Toast. I don't know enough about Quicktime and am totally in the dark as to if it can or can't. If it can, I would appreciate you letting me know if Quicktime can do it? I have Toast 4 operating on my PowerPC with OS 8.6, but understand that this is not compatible with the OSX so I can't network the finished imovie back to 8.6 for burning through Toast 4, even if i had the capacity. So I have been considering getting Toast 5, not as an upgrade option either, for my Imac and am now hesitating. Seeing the problems mentioned in the Brian and Daniel messages, I would like to hear about the solution, if any, before I go down that path. Does anyone have any suggestions as to the best, working and most economical way to get iMovie onto VCD? Or if this actually the best way of storing it? Thanks Matt Falvey Thanks everyone for the iMovie plug in answers that problem has been rectified as is working great. Am still waiting for any reply as to how to get my OS 8.6 IE favourites and OE address book into OSX IE and Mail?
Explorer favourites & OE address book
Hi again, anyone have any idea how to import my old list of IE favourites and OE address book, from my old PowerPC 7220/200 OS 8.6 to my iMac running OSX.2? Thanks Matt Falvey PS is there a WAMUG meeting tonight 3/12/2002?
iMovie Plug ins Pack
Hi, I am having a problem trying to install the "iMovie Plugin Pack 2.1.1" into my iMac. I have OSX .2 and iMovie 2.1.2 installed and have been trying very unsuccessfully to install the iMovie plug in pack. I have followed both sets of instructions for installing the plug in pack that came with the download, from the Apple iMovie web sight. They refer to iMovie versions 2.1.1 and 2.1. I presume the 2.1.1 instructions would be the most compatible with my version 2.1.2. On the OSX hard disk I have gone Home>Library>created an "iMovie" folder> created a Plug-ins folder. Then I have dragged the uncompressed "iMovie Plugin Pack 2.1 folder into the Plug-ins folder. That is supposed to be it . But when I open iMovie the new effects, transitions, titles etc are not there! I have noticed that every time it try to drag the foder into Plug-ins that the alias arrow is showing and no matter what I do the original folder won't move. I have also tried placing the "smi" folder into Plug-ins and opening it there, to see if the decompressed folder will stay in the Plug-ins folder, no it opens up on the desktop. No matter which way I do it, I can't get the effects etc onto iMovie. Does anyone have any idea of what I am doing wrong? Thanks Matt Falvey
access privilegesfor osx
Hi, I have just purchased an Imac and am trying to open the various WAMUG Cd archive discs that I have been hoarding in anticipation. In the WAMUG CD Readme.pdf, I was told I had to instal disc tracker with the installer, when I tried this I had an error message and then the explanation "you do not have enough access privileges for this installation". So I go to help and am told to alter the privileges in finder>file>get info> ownership and permissions. I am the owner, defaulted, and have access to "read & write" this is not able to be changed? Can anyone let me know how to open the cd or how to change the privileges? I am the only person logged onto the system and set myself and the password when I installed osx .2. Thanks Matt Falvey. PS sorry for causing the the "Wamug Discount" dispute, I did eventually get the Imac from Apple Joondalup, based on recommendations of after sales service and also their demonstrated high level of customer service. Thanks to all for their opinions.
Any discounts for WAMUG members
Hi all, I will finally be committing to get an new 17" Imac at the end of Sept or Oct. I was wondering if any of the apple retailers give a discount to WAMUG members and if so how much? This is the first new computer I will have bought and was wondering if anyone had any idea of what I should try to include or expect to be included in the package? (Have scanner and old laser printer) I am looking at getting 512 or 1024 of ram included to run final cut pro 3, is 1024 excessive, for private home video editing? (Also will be running PS7). Do any of the retailers attend the WAMUG monthly meetings if so, are they the preferred source? In other words does WAMUG have a preferred supplier? Thanks all. Matt Falvey [EMAIL PROTECTED]
