When things are too cheap to be good I would be cautious - there are a lot
of scams on ebay...

Imacs and magnetic fields

2004-03-04 Thread andy baker
I hope someone can help - I've just moved to Perth from the UK - I have a
12' powerbook which is running fine, but when I plugged in my blue slot
loading imac (512mb ram, 10.3) last night (after waiting 6 weeks for it) the
colours on the screen were all skewy (greens in the corners, pinks, etc). I
had a look at the apple website and it said that imac crt displays were
configued to the particular hemisphere they were produced and sold - hence
the magnetic fields in the southern hemisphere are completely different to
the northern. LCD displays are not affected.

My question is - is there anyway round this - I will try updating to mac os
10.3.2 tonight - (the firmware is already 4.1.9) - I have tried deguassing
(the imac does it on startup automatically) - is there a manual way to
deguass it? Will it get better?

Also the clock keeps reseting to January 1970 - that's not the pram battery
is it? - I thought it was a problem with Mac os 10?

Cheers
Andy

If you have a look at

http://www.emulation.net/

You can find hundreds of emulators you can run on the mac from amigas to zx
spectrums. Although getting the game roms is another thing.

Re: timbukto for OSX

2004-02-24 Thread andy baker
I can't remember how to set it up exactly, but it is a really useful
application.

Before christmas someone I know had tried to install mac os 10.3 onto an old
imac, without upgrading the firmware - result was the screen went black and
nothing happened. What I had to do to save it was take the hard drive out
and put it into a blue and white g3, it then worked fine - I then installed
timbukto onto it with the imac firmware and set it to start up
automatically. Then I put the hard drive back into the imac and started it
up. After a few minutes I could access the computer from timbukto running on
my blue and white g3 over the network - I upgraded the firmware over the
network and it all works fine now!

Like I say, once set up, it is very useful - I've never tried apple remote
desktop. One thing though - I could not use the latest os x version of
timbukto to do this - it was the older os 9 version (because the imac was
still running 9).

Cheers

Re: Off Topic... Live in Australia.com

2004-02-10 Thread andy baker
Having just emigrated to perth (3 weeks ago) I would recommend using an
agent. We used one and they did help a lot with form filling and certain
problems that arose during our application. Shop around - some agents charge
a lot less than others. It took us 18 months to apply (this was increased
due to my wife falling pregnant, so we had to wait to get our x-rays done
for the medical. If you have any questions, give me a mail.

that entails.

Thanks for the help
