Re: WoW hacked

Just a quick note, not meaning to drag this on, but had a great tip
from a friend. Writing your password and copying and pasting it makes
it much much more difficult for hackers she has also heard of
people being hacked even with an authenticator, but this will help alot!

Hi Ronni!!

That did it, Thankyou so much, who knew there was such an important
little button hiding within my computer!

Sorry for not saying what it was either, I sort of assumed everyone
just needed to know the OX and such.

Its an Emac ... and still going strong even though it went dim on e a
few months ago tough little machine it is!

And if anyone needs to know the button is near the memory ... but
make sure you turn your power off and pull the plug at the wall
before you press it, and of course its always best to double check
all information from the Mac site (thought I better put that in in
case someone tried it and fried their computer .)

Thankyou so much for your help, I hope you all have a safe Long weekend,

Maybe a good idea Peter, My kids are at school, and I still don't

Also I have worked out how to use my harddrive, I think I will wait

There we go ... smileys again, sorry, but really, otherwise I find

The nice thing a bout a new Mac is that it's compatible with
everything, though either Boot Camp or virtualisation software - or
both. It's difficult to imagine anything your kids' school would
require that would be beyond the scope of these of these
technologies. And you get to keep your beloved Mac.

If you can and it seems extremely dark, then your problem is

Ah, sentimentality for a computer the bane of a mac user i suppose.

Sorry Merv ... I was using it as 'laugh out loud' ... although 'lewd

sometimes still slips out when I know its not an appropriate forum,
my apologies.

Thankyou all for your time, I'm sure when I do finally upgrade you

Hi Sam,

Make sure you back up your eMac, as I feel the eMac is wearing out,
and perhaps its time to upgrade to a newer machine.
I don't know much about the eMacs, it could be the unit at the back
of the picture tube is wearing out. Shay has mentioned the analog
board.

One thing you could check (in case this has been changed by an
update or something), is:
Go to System Preferences Universal Access. Look for the Enhance
Contrast slider.

If it is not set to normal, that can cause display problems.
Just slide it back to normal. If it IS set to normal, then it is
very likely the eMac is running out of time.

Cheers,
Ronni

Try lowering all your in game settings, and check your memory usage
while you are playing, if you have alot of applications running at
the same time, I find this slows me down (itunes is terrible for it
for me), also multiple addons may be affecting you to, other than
those suggestions, i can't help you, sorry, but I can maybe make you
feel better in that alot of people are having big dc and lag issues
in game at the moment, especially in large raids. WoW I think has a
forum for mac users, you may want to look at this as well.

Thankyou for that though, it is a very well presented method.

Yes, iMovie in the iLife 08 install requires a Mac with an Intel
processor, a Power Mac G5 (dual 2.0GHz or faster), or an iMac G5
(1.9GHz or faster).

http://www.apple.com/ilife/systemrequirements.html

So he cannot install iMovie 08 and will need to convert his JVC GZ/
MG530 camcorder's .mod files to DV stream so he can import the DV
file into iMovie version prior to iMovie 08.

His Camcorder should show on his desktop as a Hard Disk.
The files will be in MPEG-2 format which need to be converted to
DV Stream to be imported into iMovie.

Install the Application Pixela Capty MPEG Edit EX (that should be
on the disc that came with the Camcorder)
Use this application to convert the MPEG-2 ( .MOD) files to
Quicktime DV Stream.
All this information is in his Instruction booklets that came with
the Camcorder.

1. Create a Folder on his Desktop name it 'JVC Footage'.

2. Connect the AC Power Adapter to Camcorder plug into Power.

3. Turn the Camcorder on connect USB cable to Computer

4. Double click the 'EVERIO_HD icon that appears on the desktop to
open it.

5. Drag all the MOV.MOD files (eg: MOV00A.MOD, MOV001.MOD etc)
into the folder 'JVC Footage'

6. Drag the 'EVERIO_HD' to the Trash to Eject it, check that the
ACCESS light on the camera is not blinking

Turn the Camcorder to OFF
Disconnect the USB Cable

7. Open Capty MPEG Edit EX.
   A} Under VIEW COMBINE FILES
B} Click on ADD locate the MOV.MOD files (use the shift key to
select them all).

   C} Click OPEN
D} Click CREATE select Format DV Stream
   E} Click EXECUTE
F} Name the Save As 'untitled.dv Where 'Movies'

When it has finished creating your DV Stream and Encoding the
Audio, Quit Capty MPEG Edit EX 'the combined file list will be
discarded' - OK.

8. Open iMovie, 'Create a New Project' - and Import the .DV file
or files and then Edit as normal.

Hi Lloyd,

What version iMovie is he using? iMovie 08 will import directly from

iMovie will import .mov format. Are you sure they are in .mov format

If they are .mod and he is using a version of iMovie before

2.Open iMovie, 'Create a New Project'.
3. click the little movie-camera symbol on the iMovie screen, iMovie
should already be in Camera Mode.
4. Import from camera

My husband has an inverter for his work laptop, not sure on the stats
to it, but it was just picked up from Dick Smith. I know you are able
to get inverters that are able to have up to 4 appliances plugged
into it, but I would be wary of getting that personally unless I had
a dual battery in my car. Off the top of my head I think they are
about $40, but Dad (Reg) could answer this with a bit more clarity as
he has just been out pricing them for my brother. We use it
constantly in our car too usually for camera, mobile or DS charging,
depending on what we have forgotten to charge before we left! Its
well worth investing in one I think, especially if you do alot of
driving.

Re: technical help at home

Actually you reminded me of a problem with the line we had a few
years ago too Neil. It continuously cut out and we finally got a
technician out and after many checks realized we had a monitored
alarm box (which we had not had monitored for quite some time)
Anyway, a quick pull of a line and (I think ) some foil later .. no
problems ever again, it seems as it had no filter on it it was
causing all our grief and once it had been cut it was all good.

Not sure if this will help, but thought I'd add it in just in case.

At my last house I had ongoing grief for 2 or three years -

would be OK, sometimes they would be really bad - several phone
calls to
Telstra but they just wanted me to change all my settings (which I
did -
several times!) they checked the line said it looked OK. I also
tried
changing modem scripts (with a lot of assistance from Bob Howells).
The
trouble is when things alternate between very bad and just about
acceptable
anyway it can be very hard to know if your latest change has
improved or

made things worse or is unrelated to the change.

Things finally changed when it suddenly got bad enough to show up
in the
Telstra checks - then we got a guy out who changed out some cable
bingo!

Hugely improved and reliable performance.

After a chat with the (really helpful) tech we had a look at the cable
removed and found a spot where water had obviously got in the cable
- loads
of corrosion barely a connection. We came to the conclusion that
the
performance was probably tied in with said corrosion drying out and
getting

wet - but that this took time so it was not immediately obvious as
rain-related.

If the problem had been diagnosed earlier, I would have been saved
at least
two years of intermittent grief! The other thing to know is that a
bad line
will effect your internet long before you notice any degradation in
phone

call quality.

One way to rule out the line factor IF one of the neighbours has good
dial-up (and is kind friendly!) would be to take the whole
shooting match
(modem, computer, cables) round and compare the connection
experience. I

realise, however, that this may not be feasible/convenient.

Hope that helps!

as they can from their end but the problem persists. I have also

either with the modem or the phone line. I can't really be sure
though.

Hi Paul,

What Operating System are your Parents using on the eMac?

Dialup is a somewhat precarious mix of computer, modem, phone wiring,
cabling in the street and phone exchange - all of which have to be in
good order.
So there are numerous reasons why they could be getting disconnected.

1. Does iiNet disconnect Dialup Accounts after a certain time, or if
idle for a length of time?

2. They don't have Disconnect if idle for ? minutes enabled?
They may have set the computer to automatically disconnect from the
Internet after a period of inactivity. Check their PPP Options:
A). Open System Preferences.
B). Click Network.
C). From the Show menu, choose Internal Modem.
D). Click the PPP tab, then click PPP Options.

3. If their connection drops out just as someone is trying to call,
they may be having problems with call waiting on their phone line.
The call waiting beeps (the ones you hear on a call to let you know
there's another call waiting for you to answer) interfere with the
dialup signalling, causing it to disconnect.

4. If the telephone line is being shared with multiple devices (for
example, fax, alarm system, call number display etc) unplug the other
devices so the modem has sole use of the line. Similarly, if anyone
has lifted a connected telephone receiver (tried to make a call on
the

same telephone line), this may cause the modem to disconnect.

This website might be of assistance for them:

The Internet Assistance Program website part of a Commonwealth
Government initiative to ensure Australians have access to a minimum
of 19.2 kbps (or better!) dialup Internet.
