Re: Cheap Macs

Be smart and cheeky- we have bounced off Harvey Good Guys and JBHifi -even Dick
Smith will try to gain a sell if you have the little time to compare. Take in a
printout of best price or Buy now from ebay and they will beat that too.

Microsoft Update

In have upgraded to Office 2011. It is okay But there are some pats of it that
are not wanted. So I uninstalled them and cleaned out the languages.
When it came to the latest update it could not find the folder until I
reinstalled the complete package. I had to down load the update again.
I have the same program on my laptop But I cannot find the down loaded update.
Where is it stored?

I did make a post indicating that one of my hard drives was dropping off the

warning signs from Drive Genius 3 that it needed urgent repair. First time it

I think there must be something incorrect with the latest 10.6.5.
Real question How can I test this other than reinstalling the upgrade.

Re: Upgrading Macbook RAM

2009-12-27 Thread thefrogs

If you have a battery pack that is detachable on the back- I'm not sure what
year your book is- lift out the battery and then you should be able to see
three little screws that hold a thin strip unscrew them and there you have you
will see the slots for RAM -they click out with a latch ground yourself on the
metal first flick out the old and in with the new.
If it is later model with no battery compartment then it is a small philips
screw driver remember that the smallest screw is in the right place for a
reason. unscrew all then the ram is easy to see- earth against metal flick out
and push new in.

HI List ,

Just sharing a little experience with you ..

Remember When

We struggled with the older Mac's , Dial up Internet and frreezing
screens

when the latest Mac was something like a PPM 7600 with a whole 32 or
64 Mb of Ram
the hard drive was 2 GB and you were lucky if you could burn a CD and
the operating system got to be a magical OS9 on a 200 Mhz cpu ?

REMEMBER

SO now that you have that scene firmly fixed in your mind's eye

FAST FORWARD

and try to imagine the same OS9 working on :-

Broadband
RAM 1 GB
Hard Drive 500 Gb
CPU 1.8 Ghz
on a G4

??? Imagine ???

Yep ! It goes like a rocket !

Cheers

Re: eBay

2009-06-21 Thread thefrogs
DO wait until the last minutes before you send in a bid- there is a
lot of gazumping.

Do watch items.
Do look down the full list before choosing
Do go through PAYPAL
Bigger items be very careful and watch for serial numbers
Do start off with small things to get the hang of it
Do remember everything is usually in U.S. $ and shipping rates can
double your price-depending on where they are from
Do keep time of when the auction is ending then you can see how many
of us jump in at the last minutes\Some of the Buy Now items are well
worth looking at

if they are cheaper than here it saves time and anguish

Re: G5 imac won't start - ever again. Update

Did you notice any other failures in the machines processes. We have
one that has fans running hot.

Hi muggers

Just to bring you up to date on my recent plea for help; my G5 iMac
has been diagnosed with a logic board failure = a new imac. Gulp. So
now we have a new 20 inch aluminium iMac.

That's the second G5 iMac we've totalled in less than a year. I'm an
avid fan of things Mac but this seems to be taking built in
obsolescence too far. Both machines were about 3 1/2 years old, both
cooked the logic boards.

Only symptom...fans starting to fire up randomly; on reflection some
components were obviously overheating.

Moral of the story; backup every day and expect failure if you're
still running a G5 iMac.

Has anyone had success in pleading a case with Apple for some
compensation?

Mournfully,
Mike

Previous email...

Our sole remaining G5 iMac in the fleet has decided to play up.

This morning when trying to wake it up as normal the screen
remained black and the fans started to roar. Held the off switch
down for 5 seconds and it shut down. left it for a while, unplugged
everything, switched it on. The light came on, very slightly
pulsing, but no chime. Dark screen. After about a minute the fans
came on again, so shut it down again. Repeated the process a couple
of times.

Thinking there may be a dust build up inside I tried to get the
back off, loosened the three screws, but couldn't get the back
off...seems very tight and I didn't want to wriggle it too much.

Opinions sought. Is there an easy solution that I'm overlooking?

Cheers
Mike

Screen Capture thanks to all and

2005-07-17 Thread thefrogs

Thanks for the help to you all
Apple/shift /3 is the quickest option by far and for some reason one

Apple/ shift/ 4 is slower because it is manual but it is more defined

I think the problem may lay with the fact that I had a demo copy of
Snapz Pro and that was causing some problem. There has been word
that it was flaky under 10.4

I would dearly like that to work before I try to fork out the money

The other thing I have found is that the VLC player mutes my
