Hi Rosemary

Given they are showing in your Sent items, it would appear they either have to 
have originated from one of our devices,..or something had a “script” kick in 
to send a reminder, or an email reminder (or even a calendar reminder),..or 
some form of “subscription” reminder, but it’s gone awry…..so you received a 
heap of them.
Has it happened with anything else, or was just the once off?

Normally, if they just all came in to the Inbox, then I’d say it was just 
someone had compromised your email address (quite easy to do, as anyone can 
“pretend” to send from your email address,..as a spam message,..then once they 
bounce,..you get all the real bounces to your “live” email address. But in this 
instance where this happens you wouldn’t normally have them showing in your 
Sent folder.

So given, you’ve got them going out and coming back in, it would tend to point 
to some form of automation from ’something”. (Could even be as simple as a 
shared or subscribed calendar you had and the reminders went out in a loop. Or 
something like that where a script has gone to do something,…got “stuck” and 
looped you in to 1000 emails. Were they all different times or all the same 
time? (They may narrow it down if it’s been stuck in a loop if all different 
times, or if it’s was a “one off glitch” and it sent and received in a few 
small space of time.

Do you have two factor authentication set on your Gmail address so as to stop 
someone hacking access it?
Unfortunately, one of the checks does show that your gmail address has been 
“harvested” quite a number of times. There is a good site that you can put in 
your email address and it will show where you email address has been 
“collected” from. You can check it here - https://haveibeenpwned.com
You put your email address in, and click on “pwned?” To the right of it. It 
will then show you how many “places” your email address may have been collected 
from and what details are taken.
(As unfortunately it shows your address was in “17 data breaches” - this just 
means your email address is “out in the wild” for spammers.
Hence having two factor authentication set up to limit someone else trying to 
gain access to your email.

From personal experience, I’d be surprised if it’s from the Mac itself being 
hacked. As in the 21 years of doing MacWizardry, I’ve just to come across a Mac 
that has actually been hacked. (And even before that as well, hadn’t ever seen 
it). Even the service guys I know haven’t ever had a machine come through them 
either. Have seen email addresses get compromised, or people locked out of 
email addresses and accounts. But unfortunately this is normally done where a 
person uses the same email address and the same password for everything.

Without knowing more details about it, or seeing it, it’s a bit hard to advise 
unfortunately. But if it was just a “one off” that’s happened, but first 
thought is some form of email scripting from an App or webpage and it’s just 
had a hiccup.

I understood you had an issue with Mail on your Mac ?
How is the iPhone and the iPad involved ?

Yeah I ran a full scan with Total AV and it says all is well.
Mind you, I guess it could be something on iPhone or iPad rather than the
computer.

I have AV virus in place. It seems alert messages is created when I open
Apple mail…not from Gmail.

I agree with Pete ..it sounds like a hack of some kind.

Do you use a virus and web protection software ?
If you do, try running a full scan.

If not I have used Bitdefender for Mac for a few years.
It consistently gets top of the list in tests and it has saved me a few times.

It also includes a VPN which is free for the first 200MB per day.
You have the option of upgrading the VPN to a paid version but I have never 
done that.
I usually switch on the VPN when doing banking.

But only the paid version which is about $60.00.
The free ones don’t seem to cover everything.
