Rick,
What sort of machine do you have? And how much RAM?

You _may_ be able to install a later OS on your machine.. ie if you have an
Intel based Mac, you should be able to install 10.6 Snow Leopard on it

10.5 upgrade

2008-06-07 Thread Skehan Adrian
My son in law started to upgrade from OS Tiger 10.4 to 10.5 it has
been running for about an hour and hasn't moved off 6 hrs 13 minutes
to go. The stop or restart options suggest that the machine may not
start again if interrupted. Can anyone advise of any action that can
minimise loss of data if restart is necessary.

Re: mac OS 10.5 upgrade- iCal

2008-06-04 Thread Rob Davies

Hi Gary,

Yes another whom is annoyed at Apples upgrade of iCal and Address
Book, but all in the name of progress of course if one lives in the
USA. Some of the Address Book problems may not exist, always wondered
about our insignificance here in Australia. Which has been reiterated
when dealing with Apple most recently.

But your issues; some of the notes, events, and to do's have been
moved into mail, there should be a Users Guide and Information folder
within the Root directory usually known as Macintosh HD folder or
whatever one names it. This should give you a heads up also many
online seminars are available from http://www.seminars.apple.com or
Apple site.

Many widgets have appeared as others have mentioned, try Googling for
widgets if none of the suggestions are what you are after.

Cheers!
`Rob...

Re: mac OS 10.5 upgrade- iCal irritation

2008-06-03 Thread Peter Meyer

There is also a new version of the iCal Events widget that allows:

iCal Events displays upcoming events from multiple iCal calendars in
a beautiful, resizable widget for Dashboard. You can see up to two
weeks of upcoming events in the same widget without needing to open
iCal. Need more info? Mouse over a calendar color to view the name
of the calendar, or mouse over an event's start time to see when the
event ends.

It's Leopard compatible and mousing over the events shown displays the
Location of the event at the bottom of the widget window and brings up
tooltips showing notes; clicking on an event takes you to the event,
opened for you in iCal, ready to edit.

If you have some events in the current day, they will show up there
in a list (otherwise, it will be a black square, that’s it).

They are linked to iCal app, so if you click one of these events,
iCal will start and bring you to this event.
It’s not a trick, I know, just an observation but since it’s a
Leopard’ newbie, it looks very handy for me.

Then there is an application called CaliBrate that allows you to batch
process iCal events. It also has an event drawer that allows you to
view search result details and edit or add events in the drawer. Using
a range preset like search for events “coming week” you can
approximate the behaviour of iCal 2’s drawer on Leopard. But that’s
only part of what it does. It also has a Magic Hat to drop text onto
to create new events. It’s a first release so missing features will be
added later.

Cheers,

Ronni
