G'day,

There is a little phone repair place in the Morley Galleria who has a lot of
iPhone and iPod Touch broken bits an pieces on display so I assume he fixes
them. They are behind the Information Counter just inside the door to the
undercover car park.

Re: Getting an iPhone 3GS Replacement Battery

2011-04-17 Thread Eugene
I went and bought a kit from China for pulling apart the iPhone and a replacement battery as well as some extra parts I thought I should replace whilst I had it open. All up it cost less than $20 including delivery.I then went on YouTube to find a few tutorials on pulling apart the phone. It took a fair while to actually pull it apart and replace the battery. The parts you are dealing with a minuscule and the tolerances are so fine it is almost impossible to get it right.  There was every chance that once I put it together again the phone wouldn't work at all. With sweat floating off my forehead after one hour and with the able assistance of my young daughter who had better eyes and a steady hand it was restarted and the apple logo flashed on the screen. Would I do it again? Not in a fitAs it turned out the new battery only lasted a couple of months..

$250 is somewhat excessive considering that I've had the phone for 18 months
and was planning on replacing it once the iPhone 5 comes out. I'm basically
just wanting to get another 6 months of life out of it. I was hoping to get
it done for around $50, but it's looking like another one of those areas
where the iPhone falls short. Most other phones I could have just bought a
new battery over the counter and swapped them over.

Don't waste your time. Book a session at the apple store genius bar, pay $250
and get a near new refurbished phone. At least it will be like new.

Getting an iPhone 3GS Replacement Battery

2011-04-17 Thread Gordon Campbell
I've been having a weird problem with my 3GS where it just suddenly shut
off, as if the power has been cut from it. Most of the time when I try to
power it back on it will display the Apple logo for a bit then black out
again. To get it back on I have to plug it up to a power source. At first it
was only doing it when the battery was <20% but now it's randomly doing it
all the time, though always while I'm actually using it, never when it's
just sitting in my pocket. I've had the phone since August 2009 so it's out
of warranty.

Extensive Googling has revealed that most other people who have encountered
this (and there are quite a few) have solved it by replacing the battery.
I'm a bit nervous about trying to do a home replacement, so my question is:

Can anyone recommend somewhere in Perth that is able to quickly and easily
replace my 3GS battery for a sensible price?
