No ,you were right the first time Ronni. I did mean the Hyperdrive Hard Drive.
I guess I didn't read the web site carefully enough, although it does make
sense that it would be restricted to certain file types. It seemed to good to
be true that it could just be used for general storage. That would fly in the
face of the whole iOS5 file system strategy.

Hi Peter,

I have to take more time in reading a message thoroughly & understanding what
the person is actually referring to :-(

I’ll have another go at answering your query …If you did mean the 'HyperDrive
iFlashDrive’ by my link above, which is the not the ‘HyperDrive HardDrive for
iPad that I thought you meant …. please read on ;-)

With the iFlashDrive app, users will be able to transfer, store, view and
manage files on the iDevice and iFlashDrive.
The app also comes with built-in music player, voice recorder, text editor and
contact backup.

Supported Documents: Pages, Keynotes, Numbers, PDF, TXT, RTF, RTFD, DOC, XLS,
PPT, DOCS, XLSX, PPTX, HTML, VCF
--
iFlashDrive by HyperDrive:

The cobranded HyperDrive/PhotoFast iFlashDrive, available in three different
capacities of 8GB, 16GB and 32GB, has a USB connector to connect to computers
and functions like any USB flash drive in the market in that users can transfer
data between their computer and the iFlashDrive. What differentiates
iFlashDrive from other USB flash drives is that on the other side of the
device, opposite to the USB connector, is an Apple-approved 30-pin dock
connector that works with the iPhone, iPad and iPod to perform two way data
transfer, like how traditional USB flash drives work with computers.

iFlashDrive works with a free companion app which users will be prompted to
download from the Apple App Store when they first connect the iFlashDrive to
their iDevice.
With the app, users will be able to transfer files between the iFlashDrive and
iDevice and access the following features:

- Open any file natively supported by the iDevice
- Option to open files in other third party apps
- Built-in music player, voice recorder and text editor
- Access and import photos/videos from the iDevice library
- Backup and restore iDevice contact list
- File management (create/copy/move/delete/rename)
- Send out files as email attachments

"HyperDrive iFlashDrive is the easiest solution to transfer and share files
between different iDevices and computers," says Daniel Chin, President of Sanho
Corporation. "iFlashDrive does not require iTunes, Internet or wireless
networks to transfer data which makes it perfect for quick instant transfers
between different iDevices, when computers or networks are not present like on
airplanes, basements or out of signal areas," he concludes.

Specifications
Capacity: 8GB, 16GB and 32GB
Dimensions: 2.66" x 1.39" x 0.41" / 67.5 x 35.4 x 10.4 mm
Weight: 0.71oz / 20g
Compatibility: iOS 4 / iOS 5 / Windows XP / Windows 7 / OS X
Supported iDevices:
iPhone 4S, iPhone 4, iPad 2, iPad, iPod touch 4G (requires iOS 4 & above)
iPhone 3GS, iPod touch 3G (requires iOS 5)
File types that can be opened by iFlashDrive app:
Video: M4V, MP4, MPV
Photo: JPG, PNG, GIF, TIFF, BMP, CUR, ICO, XBM
Music: MP3, M4A, AAC, AIF, AIFF, CAF, WAV
Documents: Pages, Keynotes, Numbers, PDF, TXT, RTF, RTFD, DOC, XLS, PPT, DOCS,
XLSX, PPTX, HTML, VCF
System Requirements: Free companion app downloadable from Apple App Store
Transfer Speed: 10MB/s for USB, 100KB/s at iDevice side (due to limitation by
Apple's transfer protocol)

Hope this clears my misunderstanding, if I did originally misunderstand you
Peter.

Cheers,
Ronni

Hi Peta,

I'm glad the email was useful. It's marvellous when things work as they're
meant to -- even if in this case it was only eventually. :-) By the way, nice
choice of music. Leonard Cohen is one of my favourite artists.

Hi Peter,

If you mean the HyperDrive Hard Drive for iPad:

It is only for Photos and Videos & you require the Apple iPad Camera Connection
Kit.
"Store up to 1TB of photos and videos”. Store some videos for a long plane
flight.

You can connect the HyperDrive to a Mac or PC using a USB cable, and copy
photos and video files to it just like an ordinary hard drive.
Photos that you transfer onto the HyperDrive can be previewed on its own
screen, before you connect it to your iPad.
You can only connect the HyperDrive to an iPad by using the USB adaptor that’s
part of Apple’s Camera Connection Kit.

You connect the HyperDrive to the Camera Connection Kit and then use the screen
on the HyperDrive to locate the folders that you want to transfer onto the
iPad. The contents of each folder then appear on the iPad’s screen.
You can tap the Import All button on the iPad to import the entire folder, or
tap on individual photos or videos you want to import.
Your files are added to the Photos app on the iPad, ready for viewing.

An Article explaining here:

"Once you’ve connected the HyperDrive to your iPad, you can use the
HyperDrive’s built-in LCD screen to select a folder you’d like to access and
the folder contents will appear in the iPad’s Photos app as if they were from a
camera or regular SD card.

Since files can only be transfered onto an iPad through the Photos app, you’ll
only be able to use the HyperDrive to view iPad-compatible photos and videos.
Another downside is the inability to transfer files from the iPad onto the
HyperDrive—you can only get files onto the HyperDrive through standard
computers or memory cards.

Despite these limitations, the HyperDrive could prove useful to travelers who
want to carry more videos and photos than their iPads can store, as well as
photographers or videographers who need a way to quickly back up their memory
cards without having to tote around a laptop.”

Cheers,
Ronni

Hi Ronni

They don't have a Distributor in Australia as far as I can tell, but I've sent
them an email to see the possibility of getting them.
Will keep you (and others if interested) up with information as I receive it.
Will be interesting to see what their pricing appears like (with freight etc)
to get them into the country. (And if feasible to get a few in without losing
money on it,..lol.)

Re: HyperDrive iFlashDrive & HyperDrive HardDrive for iPad

2011-11-15 Thread peta
Hi Carlo

I was happy to read your email this morning.

Yesterday afternoon I had an alert for an iTunes update, for which I clicked
"Yes", and the update quickly did what it was supposed to do.

Last night I bought and downloaded from iTunes a Leonard Cohen album. Nearly
every song quickly downloaded as it should, - however one song just would not
complete. Then I saw the message that there was over an hour of download time
still to go! For one song? I did not think so, and managed to Pause the
process.

When I read your email below re the Apple update and your comment that
"possibly caused an unusually high load on the server as millions of copies of
songs that people had previously downloaded from file sharing sites or had
ripped from CD's are downloaded anew from the Apple servers in full 256 bit AAC
glory. :-)" - I went back into iTunes and clicked on the Download Previous
Purchase button.

Terrific, just less than two seconds and that last song has downloaded
successfully!

Peta

Pretty interesting devices, Ronni. I really like the idea of the iPad external
hard drive! It's a shame the website doesn't give any clues about distributors
in Oz…

I'm fascinated to know just how these things work with software which is
written to use its own file repository, e.g., any of the iWork apps.

load on the server as millions of copies of songs that people had previously
downloaded from file sharing sites or had ripped from CD's are downloaded anew
from the Apple servers in full 256 bit AAC glory. :-)

Cheers,
Carlo

Heh heh. No worries Ronnie. I had an issue once where large emails got
repeatedly sent due to timeouts between my email client and the smtp
server. Recipients were not happy to receive a 5MB file 14 times!!! At
least yours was a little one...

Hi Stuart,

No, I did not have a book resting on the send button ….
Entirely out of my control, not sure exactly what has been happening all day.
I have not received any WAMUG messages until now, and by checking the WAMUG
Archives, I still have not received all messages.

The iCloud Mail Server 'p99-imap.mail.me.com' has been down ... ‘Down & Up’ ‘Up
& Down’ all day, and doing weird things.
When it came back on it sent some of my messages, then went down and when it
kept coming back on intermittently it must have been sending my previously sent
message ‘again' to WAMUG.
I could not access my iCloud email on the web interface either.

Hell, 6 you say Stuart … my goodness that is a mess!!!

Also the Apple Discussions were down around the same time, so think Apple were
‘fiddling’ ;-)

We will see if this message gets through to WAMUG Mailing list … and lets hope
ONLY ONCE this time!

Cheers,
Ronni
