Re: Istat Menus v 3

2014-12-24 Thread James I Fraser

Hi Ronni,

iStat Menus 3.27 deleted itself. Trash emptied. .zip file expanded,
iStat Menus 3.27 on desktop. Double clicked - d/l from internet -
Open, Install, password, Upgrade (?why) clicked, password, app
appears with CPU to Combined boxes Off and reverting to Off after 3
seconds and nothing in the Menu Bar (and a little note 14 days left
to either Buy or Register) I've Registered with it's password but
that doesn't help.

I'm almost ready to use my iPhone to make the movie of the year :-)

Cheers - do have a great rest and enjoy the time off,

James

Hi James,

The downloaded "istatmenus3.2.7.zip" is the complete iStat Menus
v3.2.7 application.
I just installed it from scratch, not upgrading a previous version
of iStat Menus 3

Do you still have a version of iStat Menus 3 installed?

Why are you letting AppTrap intervene at all? You don't want it
moving any files to the trash... You are not uninstalling... you are
installing a fresh iStat Menus v 3.2.7

Let the iStat menus installer - install a new fresh iStat Menus 3.2.7

Disable AppTrap.

I will be logging off from WAMUG soon and will only be online
intermittently over the next few days.

Ronni

Hi Ronni,

Thank you and you're right, I believe there was ample install time.

I've just tried again -

Steps 1, 2 is similar except the dialogue box needs Upgrade to be
clicked. Click and asks for a password to allow the app 'to make
changes', Meanwhile, under that the progress bar has a moving
barber's pole. Agree with password. Installing. AppTrap intervenes
asking whether or not to move associated files to the trash, (but
no files will be deleted until you empty the trash) and a warning
that the app may only be updating itself. Selected Move files. A
similar window to the Install window appears with the Upgrade spot
to be clicked, with the same 3 boxes checked - clicked. Asks again
for password, supplied - installing. Then the normal iStat Menus
menu with the CPU through Combined boxes are all 'off'. Clicking on
any one results in an On for just 3 seconds, with no icons in the
Menu Bar.

iStat menus v3.27 was working perfectly before the iStat menus v.4 install.

I believe I Uninstalled iStat menus v.4 using it's uninstaller,

Hi James,

Something is not right on your system for iStat Menus 3.27 not to

Are you sure you gave it time to install?

I connected to a MacMini that is running Snow Leopard OS X 10.6.8
and downloaded iStat Menus 3.27 (from the link I sent you) to test
the installation.

1. Double-click "istatmenus3.2.7.zip"

2. Double-click "iStat Menus.app" (on Desktop)

*Install for all users - *Download Sensors Module (required for
Temps & fan) - *Move into Applications folder.

3. Click INSTALL and it installs and under General these items are
already activated -turned ON:

CPU, Memory, Disk usage, Network, Sensors, and are all showing in
the Menu Bar (at top of screen)

4. Click the Red dot to close the iStat Application and the iStat
Menus items all stay in the Menu Bar and all working perfectly.

If this is not happening on your system.

Was iStat menus 3.2.7 installed and working correctly before you
installed iStat menus 4?

Did you have both versions on your system at the same time?

Or had you uninstalled version 3.2.7 before installing v.4?

Did the problem arise after you trashed v. 4 (not uninstalled)
through the iStat Menus - uninstall?

Hi James,

No, though it still shows in the Applications folder.

iStat Menus 3.2.7 has not installed properly.
When installed, iStat Menus places a set of menus in your menu bar (at the top
of the screen). Some of those menus show graphs and others simply show numbers.

Try downloading iStat Menus 3.27 from this link.
Scroll down the page to version 3.27

Download iStat Menus version 3.27

Hi James,

iStat Menus 4.22 and then tried to install iStat Menus v3.2.7?

I tried it and didn't like the way it displayed the CPU and I/O data actions

The current versions of iStat Menus are 5.03 OS X 10.8+ required -

Hi Ronni,

No luck, it behave exactly as before.
I found a zipped copy of the app on a rarely used external and
installed from that. Not good. Uninstalled using the app's Uninstall,
emptied trash & tried again, and again, with the same results.
AppTrap wants to delete all the files pertaining to the app so I
agreed, but even then there's no difference. Oh, what a mess.

Cheers, sort of,

Empty the Trash on you Mac
Then restart your Mac and hope see if iStat Menus version 3.2.7
works correctly.

Hi James,

This is how you should have uninstalled iStat Menus v4
To uninstall iStat Menus:
choose iStat Menus > Uninstall from the menubar, then click Uninstall.

Try Reinstalling iStat Menus
Reinstalling iStat Menus may help fix some problems.
To reinstall iStat Menus, choose iStat Menus > Reinstall

Istat Menus v 3

2014-12-15 Thread James I Fraser
Please can anyone suggest why on reinstalling Istat Menus 3.2.7 after
deleting v4 the app will load, present a dialogue box requiring the
app be upgraded. when this is done none of the sensor buttons will
stay in the ON position for more than 3 seconds.
I have deleted the app and emptied the trash and reinstalled from a
backup, used AppCleaner to take out associated files, re emptied
trash, turned the MacBook Pro off for 5' then reset PRAM and repaired
permissions. I've really spent too much time, probably doing the
wrong things, but do really like, and have used the app for years.
