Thanks Peter

A new learning for me. All those apps I’d downloaded that had better marketing
than performance! No “power” app though.

Alan

The “Purchased” history is there - it’s just in an unexpected place. You have
to tap on your Account icon (top of the screen at the right). This is where you
can access all your account details, redeem gift cards, etc. There is also an
item labelled “Purchased” which takes you your entire purchased list. The list
also gives you the option of seeing things you have purchased, but are not on
the device you’re currently using, and there’s also search field allowing you
to to look for specific items within the list (something not available in MacOS
- although this might have changed with Mojave).

Re: Odd messages - iPad 5 connection to iMac

2018-10-01 Thread Alan Smith
Hi Ronni

It would seem there is no iPad (or ios) equivalent to the iMac (macos) App
Store “Purchased” history. The iPad “Updated Recently” list is just that - one
week’s data? As you said, iTunes sync and backup of ios devices is not the
preferred Apple method. And apps are not backed up at all. This makes the
original iTunes alert message more confusing. I assumed the purchased item that
could not be transferred was an app.

I did an update of the iPad apps over WiFi. This is my usual method. I only
used iTunes to create a snapshot of ios 11 as a backup before installing ios 12
in case I needed to revert. (Because I had a backup I had no need for it - -
-.)

I then connected the iPad to the iMac. Immediately got the "software update is
required” message. I installed the update and did a new iPad backup in iTunes.
All proceeded smoothly. Somewhat surprised backups are now just a single file
that appears to overwrite the previous backup. And no trace of a “Power” app,
except for MS Office for Mac 2011 Power Point.

This now leaves the iMac and iPad now apparently working properly. The iTunes
alert message about “Power” is still a mystery, but not worth chasing. There
have been similar messages raised in Apple Support Discussions for many years.
The Mac App Store still shows “no available updates” but as I don’t want Mojave
I will keep very quiet about this anomaly!

Boot Camp! Sorry Ronni: I must have just skimmed your email about 2012 iMacs
and Mojave, noted it did not apply to me, then kept some of it in my poor
memory.

Cheers, on this lovely bright and sunny day,
Alan

Hi Alan,

Have you checked the App Store on your iPad to see what you have installed
recently or if there is a update?

Try connecting your iPad to power and update over Wi-Fi
1. Plug your device into power and connect to the Internet with Wi-Fi.
2. Tap Settings > General > Software Update.
3. Tap download and Install.

I prefer to Sync & Update my iPhone 7Plus & iPad Pro 12.9-inch over Wi-Fi since
Apple don’t seem interested in iTunes anymore.

I posted to WAMUG on 27 Sept.’18 - Subject: Mojave Won’t Install on Some 2012
iMacs with Boot Camp.
Boot Camp is no longer supported on 2012 27-inch iMacs, if the owner plans to
update to macOS 10.14 Mojave.

Cheers,

Hi Ronni,

Thanks for your response.

1. Never installed the MS Power BI app or used the system. The “mobile BI

2. Sometimes things are painfully obvious and I still need to ask wamug advice!
The Install option infers an update to the existing macos which is 10.13.6
(High Sierra). I could find no documentation as to what the “update” involved.
I assumed it was to 10.14 (Mojave) which I do not want. You seem to disagree.
Perhaps the update would be a minor patch for iTunes vers 12.8.0.150. Have you

By the way, Mojave is not offered as an app update. I have a late 2012 iMac 27

not compatible at this time. Perhaps it is all fusion drive models - - issues

Re: Odd messages - iPad 5 connection to iMac

2018-09-29 Thread Ronda Brown
Hello Alan,

1. Did you install at some time Microsoft Power BI?
The Microsoft Power BI for iOS app on the iPhone, iPad, or iPod Touch delivers
the mobile BI experience for Power BI, Power BI Report Server, and Reporting
Services

https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/power-bi/consumer/mobile/mobile-iphone-app-get-started

2. Why This Alert Appears on Your Mac

Generally, if your Mac is running the latest macOS version and your iPhone is
running the latest iOS version available, you should never see this message
appear on your laptop or desktop's screen.

If your iPhone is running a newer version of iOS than the macOS version you're
running currently supports, you will not be able to sync your iPhone with
iTunes if you get the "software update is required to connect to your iPhone"
alert. You will, however, still be able to charge your iPhone and use other
tools such as Image Capture, Photos, etc.
How to Sync Your iPhone with iTunes Again
If you have no interest in updating your Mac to the newest macOS, the answer
may be painfully obvious. When you see the "A software update is required to
connect to your iOS device. Would you like to download and install this update
now?" prompt, simply click on "Install" to update the software needed to get
your iOS device working with iTunes again on an older macOS version.

Another solution would be to open up the App Store on your Mac, head to the
"Updates" tab, then update any system software to the latest version. If you're
currently running macOS Sierra or lower, it's a good idea to update to macOS
High Sierra. Most third-party app developers have had ample time to make sure
their apps work with High Sierra, so there should be no compatibility issues
there.

Cheers,
Ronni

Odd messages - iPad 5 connection to iMac

2018-09-28 Thread Alan Smith
Can anyone explain the meaning of two strange iMac (High Sierra 10.13.6)
messages recently received relating to an iPad 5?

1. Before installing iOS12 I made an iTunes backup on the iMac. (I do not use
iCloud for backup.) iTunes gave message “Some of the purchased items on the
iPad including ‘Power’, could not be transferred because you are not authorised
for them on this computer. Would you like to authorise this computer for items
purchased from the iTunes Store?"

I reluctantly agreed to authorise so I could proceed with the backup. But what
is “Power”? I have not purchased any app, movie or song with that title or
association.

2. Several days after installing iOS12 I plugged the iPad into the iMac and got
a (system) message “A software update is required to connect to Alan’s iPad 5.”
I did not download and install it. What would the software update be? I fear
it may be macos Mojave which I don’t want. I also fear it may have some
association with the purchased ‘Power’ item now sitting in the iTunes backup
file I can’t access!

Cheers, on this damp and grey morning,
Alan
