Anybody like to suggest a model (Canon or Epson I guess being the main
pro quality printers ) that could solve this problem? also needs to
be able to print to A4+ or larger.
Currently have a 5 cartridge (CYM K PhotoK) Pixma Canon and while for
about 90% of photo's I print it does nothing short of an excellent job
for about 5% it's so-so and the remaining 5% just atrocious
for example any darker tones with a strong mix of yellow and magenta
comes out as a muddy brown with little or no clarity.
In order of most affected to less affected Vermilion (renders as
red'ish brown), Scarlet (renders as brown'ish red), Orange
(yellow'ish brown), Copper and tobacco brown renders close but usually
a touch too brown or puddles the colour.
an image like this prints fine with excellent fine detail in the fur

but an image like this results in puddles of muddy brown arround the
dog's brown patches with little or no hair details resolving

also is quite challenged handling images like:
http://www.pbase.com/marxz/image/73800279 where it changes the red/
orange/copper skin tones to yellow brown but usually no puddling or
lost details.
http://www.pbase.com/marxz/image/74950550 and http://www.pbase.com/marxz/image/93484129
were all the orange and red is rendered as muddy reddish brown and
if gamut response curve is not boosted strongly in the print it
puddles and loses details.
not a calibration/colour matching issue as far as I can see as I've
used colour sheets and custom printer paper profiles... is simply
seems like the any strong (but darker) orangey red is out of gamut
(out of the printable range) for the printer.
I have a small Dye Sub printer (6x8 maximum print size) which is
able to produce these colours (though has it's own, other gamut
issues) but don't want to consider Dye Sub for A4 printing.
seriously starting to consider the Canon pixma9000 or pixma9500
despite their $1000'ish cost but they are total overkill though
A3+ and roll printing would be nice
