Hi all,
My Beige G3 desktop 233MHz computer appears to have a damaged graphics
card. I've tested all the peripherals I've put in it, but the monitor
still turns itself off. It will do this unexpectedly, and I have to
force restart to get it to do anything. The Curtin computer shop
suggested it could be the clock battery but I ruled this out, the time
was correct even after leaving it off in a room for two weeks.
The graphics card being damaged is a plausible explanation, because I
used to have a poor monitor which would often form a bright (and
noisy) streak down the middle. It was an AppleVision monitor. I would
quickly turn it off (possibly avoiding smoke/a fire). The monitor
could have given the graphics card a bolt of electricity.
Unfortunately the options for getting a replacement graphics card are
very limited, so I should probably look at getting a replacement
computer.
It's probably unlikely, but I would substitute a different monitor
first ! Stranger things have happened.

I've heard the guy at the Curtin computer shop say one can get a Beige
G3 for about $50. Does anyone have one they don't want, or any ideas?
