Hi all,

For some reason my iPhoto app is crashing, within about 10 seconds
of opening EVERY time. I've never had significant problems with
apple programs in OS X, so I'm unsure what to do. I've tried the
following on a MacBook Pro 2.16Ghz, 1GB, heaps of spare space, OS
10.4.9, using iPhoto 6.0.6 and 6.0.1

I have
1. Repaired permissions and ran maintenance scripts from terminal
2. Repaired HD using disk utility from start up disk(fixed a few
things)

3. Reinstalled iPhoto 6.0.1 from OS X 10.4 DVD

None of these have worked, and I am now realising how important
iPhoto had become!

What caused it?
- No idea, just started happening
- I've installed a few shareware apps recently, but none are
running at same time.

Hi James,

First try deleting the 'com.apple.iPhoto.plist' in your
Home / Library / Preferences - com.apple.iPhoto.plist

If that doesn't fix iPhoto crashing.
Try Rebuilding the iPhoto Library.
Hold down the Option and Command (apple) keys and launch iPhoto.
Select the top three options in the dialogue box that appears.

Hi Ronni and WAMUG,

Thanks for getting back to me Ronni, much appreciated.

I tried both those solutions and no joy.
When rebuilding the iPhoto library it didn't crash until it had
completed that process.

I've also tried using iPhoto buddy to create 'new' empty libraries to
see if it was something due to a large or corrupt library, but no
luck there.

Does anyone have any other ideas?

Cheers,
James

James ,

Is it true that you have both iPhoto 6.0.6 ANDiPhoto 6.0.1

as the above description says ?

If so I would suggest that you shoulduninstalone of them

Hi Bob,

I originally had iPhoto 6.0.6 installed, but then deleted it and re-
installed iPhoto 6.0.1 from the OS X DVD.

Only one copy at a time.

James

Hi James,

Doesn't look like anyone does have any other ideas, or else they have
been busy on other things like I have.

OK, let's find out a couple of things first. You say you installed a
few shareware apps around the time iPhoto started crashing, was any
an 'Application Enhancer'?

Also your HD had some problems that you say are now 'fixed' ?

I would first get your MacBook Pro completely up to date. Update
iPhoto to 6.0.6

http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/iphoto606.html

Download The Combo 10.4.9 update for your MacBook Pro install it.
http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/macosx1049comboupdateintel.html

Check Software update again to make sure all security updates etc are
installed.

Repair Permissions again.
Restart your MacBook Pro.

Then if iPhoto 6.0.6 doesn't work.
It might be that the library database file, Library6.iPhoto is
corrupted, or a file is.

If there is only one library folder in your Pictures folder and
rebuilding it by launching iPhoto with the Command+Option keys
depressed and following the instructions to rebuild the library
didn't work.
I think you'll have to start afresh with a new library and import
the files from the Original folder in the old library.

Here's how: Creating a new library while preserving the rolls from
the original:

1. Move the existing library folder to the desktop.
2. Launch iPhoto and, when asked, select the option to create a new
library.
3. Drag the 'Originals' folder from the desktop into the open iPhoto
window.
NB. 'Make sure you have 'Copy Files to iPhoto Library Folder' ticked
in Preferences Advanced'.

This will create a new library with the same rolls as the original
library. However dates on the rolls may be different but can be
edited as you would the roll title.

Once this is completed and you are sure everything is working
correctly in iPhoto you can delete the Originals folder from the
desktop and the iPhoto Library folder.

Cheers,
Ronni
