Severin Crisp It is in the nature of OS X to deal with PDFs in a different way from other file formats, given the intrinsic way that Display PDF forms the backbone of OS X's display system. Generally, when you click on a PDF in Safari, the PDF itself will open directly in the Safari space (unless you have the Adobe Reader plugin installed, in which case you can stop reading now). As you have noted, there is an option to roll the mouse over the bottom of the screen to display an Icon bar which gives you, amount other things, the ability to download the PDF, and as Ronni has noted, the contextual popup menu gives you extra options as well. There is a third way if all you want is to save the PDF: simply go to the File Menu in Safari and choose Save As... Normally this would give you the choices of saving the page source or saving as a Web Archive, but in the case of a PDF, you are not given any choices: you simply save the open PDF file to a location of your choice. Re: Safari and PDFs
Hi Severin, In Safari 6 if your Control-Click (Right-Click) on an image of a PDF you should then see a window with numerous options. Open Link in New Window Open Link in New Tab Download Linked File Download Linked File As Add Link to Reading List Save Image to Downloads Save Image As and many more options... Are you not seeing this dialogue window when you 'hold' a right-click? I can send you a screenshot Offlist of a Control-Click on an image of one of my PDFs on my website, if you don't understand what I am seeing in Safari. Or is it only happening on certain web pages? If so check if it is happening on my page that I have taken the screen shot from. http://ronnibrown.net/how-to/repair-disk-permissions/index.html Cheers, Ronni On 14/09/2012, at 1:39 PM, Severin Crisp sevcr...@westnet.com.au wrote: In Safari, when I right click on a graphic linked to a PDF I do not get the PDF.
