Sorting books in iTunes
The question was posed last night at the WAMUG meeting about sorting Author names in the list of ePub books in iTunes, according to the author's surname, showing the surname first. There is a way to do this. In order to help the following make sense, first view your books in List View, then choose a book (any book) and press cmd-I (Get Info). Click on the Sorting tab. Note that the Sorting screen is not really designed to cater for eBooks, so that the Author is listed as the Artist. Nonetheless, it's the Artist field which contains the Author's name. Note also that there is a Sort Artist field which shows the Author's name, displayed with the Surname first. So, to get this to display the way you want it in iTunes 1. Go to View View Options... 2. Click the check box next to Sort Artist, and if you prefer, click on the Author checkbox to hide it. Now when you look at your books list, you will see the Authors listed by surname first. Unfortunately, this only works in the list views (including CoverView). The View Options... Menu Item is not available in Icon View. Re: iPhone4 - TV show sorting
Hi all, Just a follow up with some more info: I just added two more TV shows to my sync list and these were NOT listed under Fawlty Towers but correctly listed under the correct show title. Somewhat encouraged, I thought there might just have been a problem with the original sync when the problem shows were transferred - so I unsynched all the shows (5 episodes from three different shows) that were being displayed with the Fawlty Towers show, synched the phone again and confirmed that there were just the correct 6 episodes showing under Fawlty Towers. I forced the iPod app on the iPhone to quit (thought a restart of the iPod app might help) and then added a couple of the problem episodes back to the synch list. Unfortunately, after synchng, they were back being listed as episodes in the Fawlty Towers show!! I am at a loss as to what is happening here: * I have checked and re-checked all the info (on all panes) showing with get info in iTunes - there is absolutely no reference to Fawlty Towers anywhere. * The shows all list and sort correctly in iTunes on the computer. * The shows all list and sort correctly on the AppleTV (new model - which runs an iOS system) when accessing the computer shared library. * Browsing the connected iPhone from iTunes on the computer shows the TV shows on the iPhone as having the correct show listed in the show column * BUT the iPod app on the iPhone continues to show any of the 5 problem episodes of these 3 shows as being episodes of ³Fawlty Towers² in the video list. Has anybody experienced anything similar? Any ideas? TIA Neil -- Neil R. Re: Sorting
Assuming you're using Word, put the numbers in a table, and choose Table-Sort. You can specify whether you want to sort the data as text or as numbers. Excel will automatically determine what type of data you have and sort accordingly. Re: Sorting
Peter, you must have defined the field type as text rather than number. You will have to redefine that field as a number field and then the sort will be numeric instead of alphabetic. PROBLEM SOLVED Sorting Photos by Orientation
Hi Ronni and WAmuggers I decided to have another look around the options in Bridge - and VOILA, yes I found the Filter - Orientation down on the left side of my window. Thank You! I had been using the drop down menus along the top and there were no words 'Filter' or 'Orientation' up there. I would have thought those word options should have been available in Sort When doing a word search in Help, and typing the word 'Filter', I got something called Filter Panel and didn't realize that would be where to go. It always pays to think outside the square when doing searches. Sorting Photos by Orientation
Hi All Just wondering if any Photoshop/Bridge/Aperture enthusiasts can help me with sorting photos. I'd like to sort a whole folder of photos by Landscape/Portrait orientation. I have Bridge (CS4) and have tried sorting by Dimensions Size (wasn't very hopeful of these working) and had no luck. I don't have Aperture so would like to know if this option is available there? Help on sorting hard disk contents display
Hi all Ever since I got my 5500/250, running 8.1, the display of hard disk contents has been alphabetical, A few days ago, while transferring half a dozen files into a higher level folder by shift clicking, I held the button down too long and the folder opened up, as has happened before. I closed the folder, reopened the hard disk list and found it in reverse alphabetical order. It is no big deal but it is more convenient in the normal order. Selecting all the contents and EDITSORTBY NAME made no change. Repeating by DATE MODIFIED changed it to ascending date order, but returning to BY NAME put it back in reverse alphabetical. HELP was no help. Its index does not contain SORT! I can't find any assistance in the archives nor in the multitude of references from SORT HARD DISK in Google. Help will be much appreciated. So - apologies in advance if I am wasting anyone's time. -- Ian Reid
