Hi ronni
I can go everywhere on the internet and have connection,I'm connected
with a Linkstar S2 modem to a satellite dish with broadbandnet.

Is the downloadspeed of 46 KB/sec normal slow or very slow?
thanks Martin

It means you are not 'finding' your ISP's Server therefore not
connecting to the Internet.
Likely to be an issue with your Network setup, or your Modem/
Router, or your ISP server might 'be down' (not available) at the
time.

Check your Network Configuration settings in System Preferences
Network - that you have all the correct settings in your ISP's
DNS numbers.

Restart your Modem/Router.

How are you connecting to the internet, wire or wireless
connection? I imagine wireless.

What Modem/Router?

Cheers,

Martin

Just an idea

In your system preferences Click on Network

In the TCP/IP section look for Configure IPv6 Click
on Configure IPv6 so a window appears ..

The window probably shows Configure IPv6
Automatically ! ?

If so click on the Automatically and drag down to the OFF
which will appear after clicking

This should make IPv6 off .

Click OK

Then click Apply Now located at the bottom of the Network window

Now try your banking problem

Note : you may need initially to click the lock at the bottom
and authenticate

2008-10-01 Thread Ronda Brown

Hi Martin,

Well, Broadbandnet say their Satellite always on' Broadband Internet
access 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The basic connection speed is
512 kbps download 64 Kbs upload.

As there are 8Kb (kilobits) in every KB (kilobyte) ... and you are
saying you are downloading at 46KBps (kilobytes), my calculation by
multiplying your 46KB (kilobyte) by 8 = 368 Kbps transfer rate.
Which seems to indicate it is slower than what Broadbandnet are saying
it should be?

If my calculations are wrong, I stand corrected ;-)

Cheers,
Ronni

Re: banking problems answer to Ronni

2008-10-01 Thread James / Hans Kunz
sorry your calculation has a small mistake, in serial connection
(which broadband is) there are a start bit - 8 data bits - a stop bit
which are 10 bits per data byte, thus thus kbp/s divided by 10 gives
KBp/s, additionally if there are server delays and many other things
(noise) sitting on the line, then the data rate can drop
significantly..(especially in wireless)

cheers James

Thanks for this James,

As I said in my previous email,

If my calculations are wrong, I stand corrected ;-)

I do understand the additional things that can slow the data rate down
significantly, I notice changes in my data rate on my Wireless Network.

Martin

I get best download speed of around 156KB/sec on a 1.5Mhz ADSL. My
ADSl speed tests at 1.5 Mhz .

Using that as a reference your 46KB would be equivalent to an ADSL
circuit of around 300 Khz .

I do not know what your ISP is supposed to be supplying you , but some
people I know

have around that speed as normal .

It certainly is a speed that should cause you no problems with mail or
browsing .
