Hi Roger ,

You have removed all the obvious files that can be seen !
Sometimes a damaged file can be on your hard drive and   INVISIBLE .
It can be a duplicate of a normal working file .

There are a few applications that can make Invisible files visible .
BBedit comes to mind ,


Typically they make ALL invisible files visible , so you would have to  
troll through

that massive list looking for a clue .

To help the inspection Usually you can list them by date or name or  
path .


Three Macs means that possibly the same corrupted file has found it's  
way on to

all 3 hard drives .

which might be

of help.
I could be a conflict with something else left behind of a  
previous version,

or it's bringing up a file that is corrupt on each start.
But more so, perhaps something in a folder conflicting amount the  
Word

versions.
There are a lot of different preference files and folders with  
Office, so

you have to make sure to delete or remove them all.

Hi Roger,

This is a very vague memory, from the mists of time! - It therefore may have
no relevance at all to you!!

I seem to remember having an unexplained problem with an earlier version of
word which I eventually tracked down to the "normal" template which had
somehow become corrupted.

I got rid of the normal template and word was then fine - it recreated a new
default  "normal" template and was fine from then on.

Of course, if you have modified your normal template you will lose those
changes - but I'm expecting that would be a much lesser inconvenience :)

If you save the normal template elsewhere (I'd go for a removable thumbdrive
or similar so MS can't go looking - but that's just me!) you can replace it
if it turns out not to be the problem.

As I say, I don't really remember all the details from when I had the
problem - but it may be worth a try!

Hi Roger

When Word crashes does it bring up an error message?
Also check Console (Applications/Utilities) and under the Logs, it should
give a bit more of a detail reported as to why it's crashing.
That may help as well.

This can be caused by having a single licence for Office 2008 and  
installing the programs on more than one computer. If your computers  
are  networked together Office will detect hat the program is  
installed on more than one computer and you will normally  get a  
message similar to "Your installation is exceeds the number of  
installations permitted etc etc"


It does appear however that you can still run Word on the computer  
which the error message appeared as long as you close down the program  
on the other computers.


The above of course may not be the reason why you are having problems  
as it may be something entirely different in your case but I am  
mentioning it so people are aware of what can happen.

office 2004 & 2008 problem

Hi Guys & Ladies

I have just come across a problem which I can't resolve as of yet!!!

I have 4 macs, 2 running office 2004 and 2 office 2008 all on 10.4.11, one other
mac there is fine!

Last Friday word stopped launching on then all! all the other office components
still work fine!  They have told me nothing had changed on their systems no
updates and no font changes.

I have deleted all the prefs and anything to do with Word I can find but with no
joy.  I have done a uninstall of office  and installed 2008 on 2 of them again
word will not start.  Logged in as admin and the same thing happens.

Deleted all the cashes, deactivated all fonts except those required by office,
made sure nothing else is running! repaired permissions and any thing else I
could think off.

Does anyone have any other ideas please??

These Macs are in Kalgoorlie so a little hard to trouble shoot.
