Re: Safari problem

2015-01-08 Thread John Thompson
Hi Ronni,
Thanks for the info and don’t fret about not replying earlier, it has
been a very busy time for all. Actually, my Wife and I took off for a week at
Jurien just after I posted my last request so couldn’t do much about the
problem anyway.

Thing are now, thanks to your assistance, going fine. It just took the old
computer about two and a half hours to download, install and update the system
and Safari is now back in business.

Thanks again and all the very best for the year and beyond.

Regards

John

Re: Safari problem

2015-01-07 Thread Ronni Brown
Hi John,

I did mean to reply to your original post, but things got terribly busy my end
and then somehow I was remiss and didn't get back to you :(

Boot to the recovery partition and reinstall the OS (This will ONLY reinstall
the core system and its Apps. Including Safari. No personal data will be lost)

Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and
hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively,
restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key
until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the
downward pointing arrow button.

Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if
possible because it is three times faster than wireless.

Detailed instructions:
Boot from your Recovery HD partition by restarting your Mac while holding down
the Command+R keys.
The OS X Utilities window appears. Select Reinstall OS X, and click Continue.
The OS X Yosemite splash screen appears. Click Continue.
A sheet appears informing you that your computer’s eligibility needs to be
verified by Apple. Click Continue to begin the process of installing or
reinstalling OS X.
If you’re not connected to the Internet, you’ll be asked to choose a Wi-Fi
network from the AirPort menu in the top-right corner.
The Yosemite software license agreement screen appears. Read it and click
Agree.
A sheet drops down, asking whether you agree to the terms of the license
agreement. Yes, you did just click Agree; this time you’re being asked to
confirm that you indeed clicked the Agree button.
If you don’t click Agree, you can’t go any farther.
Choose the disk on which you want to reinstall OS X by clicking its icon once
in the pane where you select a disk.
If only one suitable disk is available, you won’t have to choose; it will be
selected for you automatically.
Click the Install button.
A sheet asks for your Apple ID and password. Type them in the appropriate
fields; click Sign In, and your Yosemite installation reinstallation) begins.
The operating system takes 30 to 60 minutes to install. When the install is
finished, your Mac restarts itself.
If you were reinstalling Yosemite on the hard disk that it was originally
installed on, you’re done now.
Your Mac will reboot, and in a few moments you can begin using your new,
freshly installed (and ideally trouble-free) copy of OS X Yosemite.

Cheers,
Ronni

Safari problem

2015-01-07 Thread John Thompson
My apologies for sending this request again but would like to possible get some
idea of the problem and a solution if one is available.

Since updating to Yosemite 10.10.1 I have not been able to launch Safari 8.0.2
on my main computer, MacMini (late 2009). There is no problem on the Macbook
Pro 13” (2012 model), iPad3 or iPhone 4s. Have checked as much ;as possible
with Disk Utility. I have to resort to Firefox or Chrome at the moment which
is not my preference.

If there is no solution, how would I go about re-installing Mavericks.

Any tips would be most welcome.

Safari problem

2012-08-31 Thread Paul Willemse
Hi All,

By way of explanation, I am an ex-Perth resident, moved back to my hometown
(Singapore) a few years ago. Ever since then I have listened to Curtin FM on
the internet.

I recently upgraded to OS X 10.8.0 (now 8.1) and from that time on I can not
get the feed to run. I get a second or two of sound then nothing. As I spend
many hours at my Mac (I do software development), I really miss having Curtin
in the background.

In addition, many gifs appear to be highlighted in a pinkish colour that
disappears if I download the gif by itself. Clicking on the page does not
remove the pink highlight. Animated gifs either do not work at all or appear to
be out of sequence and erratic.

All other apps seem to work fine.

My Mac is a Mac Pro Desktop, late 2010, 10 GB memory. Safari Version 6.0
(8536.25)

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Paul

A problem with Safari has arisen only since installing OS X 10.8.
Safari 6.0 quits now almost instantly on opening. Cannot get it to stay open
long enough to get to the preferences and change my preferred browser to

Has anyone else experienced this problem?

she has checked it and it's all back to normal.

Re: Safari problem on Lion

2011-07-31 Thread Paul Willemse

Hi Carlo,

The perils of high speed internet access! I am on a high speed, experimental
fiber optics line (I recently moved back to Singapore) that can reach giga-bit
speeds. I have never seen the blue progress thermometer so I did not realise
what the purpose of that icon was.

Thanks for the tip, glad I am still a WAMUG subscriber.

Regards,

Paul

Re: Safari problem on Lion

2011-07-31 Thread cm

Hi Paul,

I am not sure if the help file you are reading is intended for Snow Leopard (OS
X 10.6) or Lion (OS X 10.7). If it is intended for Lion then it is in error
because in Lion Safari has no download window. The download window has been
replaced by a small icon at the top right hand side of the browser's main
window. The icon displays a small blue progress thermometer as the download
proceeds. Clicking on this icon opens a download pop over that shows all
downloads that are underway and allows one to pause or cancel a given download.

The download pop over in Lion is similar to and replaces the download window of
Safari for Snow Leopard. Because the download pop over is continually available
from the icon in the top right hand corner, it no longer appears in the Window
menu.

Cheers,
Carlo

Safari problem on Lion

2011-07-31 Thread Paul Willemse

Hi All,

I upgraded to Lion, no major problems. The only problem I have found
so far is the disappearance of the download window and it's related
menu in the 'Window' menu.

From Safari (Version 5.1 (7534.48.3)) help:

"To download an item on a webpage, click the item’s link. Downloading
begins, and the Downloads window opens.
If you don’t see the Downloads window, choose Window > Downloads."

There is no entry 'Downloads' in the menu. Has anyone else encountered
this or can suggest a fix?

Thanks in advance,

Regards,

Paul

Safari has suddenly decided not to display any pages at all, it
doesn't quit and all the menus are still their but nothing responds,
not even Preferences. I have tried deleting the plist, repairing
Permissions and run a couple of other repair app all to no avail,
can anyone offer any suggestions please?

Neil is right - it is horrible HTML, possibly vying for the worst we
have ever seen, and we too would wonder about the professionalism of
the company. The site appears to have been created by saving HTML out
of Microsoft Word - enough said. When I asked Firefox to show me
errors in the source, it reported "Too many errors - not all errors
and warnings were shown".

By the way, if anyone wants a recommendation for a very good
financial advice/management company, email us off list (we are one of
their clients but have no other interest in them).

Good Grief - that has to be one of the worst examples of HTML coding for a
web page I've seen!!

For your info it doesn't work in Firefox either!

Personally (and this is just my personal opinion, mind!) I would have to
think very hard about dealing with an outfit on a professional level if this
was the best they could come up with as a web site!

Just my 2c worth ;)

Cheers

Safari problem

2006-06-25 Thread Darrel McGuiness

Help needed,
Running OS 10.4.6, and have been sorting settings on a Linksys router
via Safari.
I had no problems getting onto Linksys page(internet http://
192.168.15.1), modifying settings, until 2 days ago when suddenly
Safari would just "time out" on accessing the site.

I also use Firefox occasionly and this has no problem with the site.
My preference is to use Safari, and this router site is the only one
I have a problem with.
Daniel, has suggested getting into Network and checking cookies, then
Autifill, and as a last resort Reset Safari.

Have carried ALL these suggestions but the problem still remains.
Have pity I am old and a novice to Mac.
Hoping
Darrel

Re: Safari problem after 10.3.4 upgrade

2004-06-08 Thread Greg Manzie

Hi Shay

The OS 10 partition shows as 7.5 GB, 5.68 GB used, 1.82 GB available.
However you are right, the downloads folder was on a separate partition
which proved to be full.
Thats why the direct upgrades were working, as they go to the OS 10
partition.

I moved the downloads folder and now all is well.

Thank you very much for your time and trouble.

How much disk space is spare on that drive? It sounds like it might be
running out of space before it can save the complete file. It
downloads fine for me.

Thanks,

They appear in the downloads folder as part files.

You may have installed the latest security patch, which means
documents may not necessarily open automatically, but you should be
able to open them via the download window.

Safari problem after 10.3.4 upgrade

2004-06-08 Thread Greg Manzie

Hello everyone
Can you help me please?

Since updating the OS to 10.3.4 (including Safari and mail updates)
through Software update on my G4,
I cannot successfully download PDFs or other files through safari
download.

The internet and Mail work well, as does Software update and some other
on line updaters like
Speed Download 2 and Safari Enhancer. (I updated Security update this
morning)

I have run Yasu and DiskWarrior regularly and all is normal. I've
looked at Safari Help
without success. Also I've been right through Safari Preferences
several times.

I use Telstra BigPond ADSL and they say everything seems normal their
end.

Before I start meddling with things I don't properly understand, I
thought I should ask.

SAFARI PROBLEM

2003-01-12 Thread John Currie

Copy of email received this morning off my Panorama Q&A lis

Subject: Be Careful!!!

Several MacInTouch readers pointed out an Apple online discussion - Danger!
Danger! Danger! - warning that Option-clicking a link in Safari has the
potential to wipe out the user's home directory in Mac OS X:

I option clicked on a link in Safari to test a download. The download
changed to the name of my home directory as it was downloading. It saved
into my User folder. In the blink of an eye, it removed, destroyed,
evaporated, my entire Home directory, including the desktop which
disappeared along with days of work projects that were on it! Safari itself
disappeared because it was on the desktop. My multi-gig directory was
suddenly only 32 k. Of course, all of my work files, financial records, etc.
are in my Home directory; by some quirk of fate, I had just backed up work
files other than those on the desktop to another drive. Yikes!!!

Maybe we should wait for others to beta test this!!!
