Re: classic lines

2006-02-09 Thread Dixonhayes
I recently read a DVD review on Amazon.com about season four of TAGS and one
poster said in the episode "My Fair Ernest T. Bass," Barney delivers the
funniest line in television history. I presume he means this one (recalling
strictly from memory):

"Dogs, Andy, nothing but dogs...I'll bet if someone flew a quail in this room
every woman in here would point."

So let's say someone's compiling a list of the funniest sitcom lines in
television history, and picking from all the classic TV shows, from "I Love
Lucy"
to, say, "My Name is Earl." Question: which lines from "The Andy Griffith
Show" would make the list?

The Mayberry Expletive

2006-02-09 Thread brodahaver
Whether Jack Prince accidentally swore in a line of dialogue on TAGS is
really immaterial. It's ever so slight. How do you think it was in the prop
room
when Andy and Don Knotts were on a break? How about being a fly on the wall in
Sheldon Leonard's office during a heated conversation?
More recently, look at Jim Nabors as 'Lugs Harvey' in the film "Stroker Ace"
when Stroker T.C.ed into the wall during a NASCAR race. Don't forget Andy's
mild expletive he frequently used on "Matlock." It is the common slang for a
flop eared mule.

"He did it again!" (I changed the pronoun).

More on Columbo

2006-02-09 Thread John W. Sasser
Re: I can say with certainty that Columbo's first name was never given in
any episode of that show. Let me guess: somebody told you it was Philip,
right?

Without making a moulage about a non-TAGS item, let me just say that no! -
it's not Philip. I'm aware of Mr Worth's made-up name in his trivia book,
and I'm aware of his reasons. The real name has nothing to do with that.
You are right to say it was never mentioned on the show, but I'm just saying
that it was seen! Clearly visible when he shows his ID to Eddie Albert in
"Dead Weight" (1971). I imagine the prop man just scribbled any old name he
could think of on the ID to make it look real, but it's there, nonetheless!

I've had many interested parties ask me (and have emailed them), so I'll
tell you right here and now: Look away if you want to retain the mystery.
Sorry if I got off the Andy subject for a bit there, Allan. Lord, I
apologize!

Sheldon was doing his "Race Track Tout" character from THE JACK BENNY

the
mid-1940s right up to Jack's NBC specials in the early 1970s.

Ben Weaver's Tie

2006-02-09 Thread Andy Allen
Hey Andy, Hey Barney! (Can't you just hear Gomer saying that?)

I just had to post this handy little item that I discovered whilst
watching my DVDs the other day. I was watching The Shoplifters episode where
Weaver's is being robbed by the little ole lady that clanks. In the scene at
the end where they weigh the lady I noticed Ben Weaver's tie. If I'm not
mistaken, and I looked gd, It's the same tie that Gomer bought for his date
with Mary Grace!!! I couldn't believe it! That is such a
great touch to put that in twodifferent shows. Who'd a thunk it? I hope this
gets me a trained noticer's award. I always wanted to be a trained noticer!

RAFES "BAD WORD"

2006-02-09 Thread Oliver, Michael J
Hi all,

I would like to officially put this to rest. Rafe did NOT say any bad
word. If you put in the DVD with closed caption you will see for
yourself. In fact he says "well, that's me". The Andy Griffith Show is
a very wholesome show with heart, courage, love and an escape from the
sin soaked world we live in. I never take that for granted and I never
let my faith in it, or the loving Christian messages it gives us, fade
in any way and I hope you all will do the same.

God Bless and Keep your eye on the prize.

2006-02-09 Thread Randy Moffett
I didn't mean cause a big milange. I just wondered if anybody else had noticed.
I wanted to make sure, so last night I pulled out my brand new boxed set of
DVD's and played that part over and over until I came to the conclusion that
Rafe was really saying, "Hal, that's me!" I don't know what "hal" means. It
could be a contraction of "huh well" with a little Mayberry twang. I'm sure it
was not anything naughty, though. We all know that's just not possible in
Mayberry. That would be just "crude talk" as Gomer would say. And besides, if
Rafe had used a bad word, his face would have become colored like in that movie
"Pleasantville."

Andy never lost his cool and always did the right thing except when it came to
Opie. We see him a few times lose his cool and jump to a conclusion. How many
of us have made that same mistake only to find that it is our child that ends
up teaching us the lesson instead of the other way around. We are never to old
or know so much that we cant learn something from our children, it is a lesson
I have learned many times. The bible tells us that only as a child shall we
enter the gates of heaven. I can right at this moment close my eyes and see
Opie`s eyes as he say`s " dont you believe me Pa." WWAD, he is asking us to
believe and trust in our kids. I think as we grow older that we forget how to
trust and love sometimes.

Not Phillip And Spoiler Alert

2006-02-09 Thread bcq145
I hate to be the one to correct Paul, but Colombo's first name, as supplied by
John
S. is NOT Phillip--and read no farther if you don't want to know,
but it is Frank.
As John explained in His Post, this name was on the Lt.'s badge and he was able
to
see it by zooming in on it when Colombo showed it to the suspect, Eddie Albert,
during one of the series earliest episodes. I think that will stand up under
scrutiny
as when this series was made no one dreamed of dvds and people being able to
see something like the Lt.'s badge with the clarity that we can today.

Anyway, it satisfies me and Laura Lee Hobbs; can't tell how it will satisfy

Adventure Solution

2006-02-09 Thread Dan Goodwin
OK, here's the solution to my little Adventure from yesterday. Walking down
Andy's driveway to the sidewalk and turning right would take you in front of
Wally's house (Man in a Hurry), you'll see the stump in the front yard that
Ernest T and Romena leapfrog over in My Fair Ernest T. Anyway, continue
down the street past all the houses and you'll come to the corner when the
commercial buildings start. The church would be on your opposite corner.
Turning right and following the sidewalk, you're now going down the street
to the side of the courthouse. You walk past that odd door you see in about
the 3rd building down and continue until you are directly across from the
Feed and Seed that is located behind the courthouse. Crossing the street to
the Feed and Seed, turn left and you'll have to cross the street that runs
immediately behind the courthouse (where they worked on the bandstand in
Sermon for Today). Obviously, the first building you encounter will be the
courthouse with that door about in the middle of that side. If you enter
that door, you'll be in 1 of 2 places, depending on which episode you're
watching. 1. It is usually considered the back door to the jail. Where
Opie took the dogs out in Dogs, Dogs, Dogs. Enter here and you're in the
back room of the jail where Barney takes his naps. 2. It has also been the
entrance to the Mayor's office which is considered to be above the jail.
Andy and Ellie leave the Mayor's office and exit the building through this
door.
