Quoting the entire Digest

2006-05-14 Thread Allan Newsome
Folks,

Some email clients quote the ENTIRE Digest to which you "Reply" and as a
result your message will cause a brand new issue of the Digest to be
created which contains a copy of the one you replied to. Please turn off
the automatic quoting feature of your email tool so this does not occur
in the future.

I try to catch these but I've been messin' up lately with my "approving"
of messages. I let through a "junk" e-mail a few days back and now I
messed up on the "quoted" Digests. That was my fault...not AuntBee1's
but in the future if all of y'all would try and make sure you don't
quote entire issues of the Digest, it'll make my job a little easier.

Thanks!!!

Surely you remember Aunt Bee's birthday? Andy & Opie were fishing and, as
usual, old "Eagle Eye Annie" caught many fish to the amazement of Mayor Stoner.
Opie wanted to stay and fish some more until Andy reminds him they have to go
to the bakery and pick up Aunt Bee's birthday Cake.

Opie gave her salt and pepper shakers (over a baseball mitt) and Andy gave
her 2 boxes of canning jars (maybe so she could make more kerosene cucumbers?)
when she really wanted the pink bed jacket in Mrs Luken's store window?

Mayor Stone had purchased said bed jacket for his wife but he traded it to
Andy for old "Eagle Eye Annie".

Opie: Aunt Bee how old are you this year?
Andy: Opie we don't ask a lady that!
  Bee: That's okay I believe I'm 21.
Opie: You were 21 last year, Aunt Bee
Bee: Oh you're right. I must be I'm 22 this year.

And another thing about when Barney started "deputyin'":

In "Irresistable Andy", Barney specifically says that he'd been a

Re: Towns like Mayberry

2006-05-14 Thread auntbee1
I live in Ephrata in Lancaster County, PA. It is a lot like Mayberry in that we
buy our greens at roadside stands ( the legal ones ) and we have band concerts
in the park on Sundays. We have a local paper that comes out once a week on
Wednesdays ( unless you subscribe in which case you get it in your mail on
Thursday ).

I don't lock my doors or my car most of the time and until recently, I had
worked for the phone company where they would have been lucky to find someone
as competent as Sarah as an operator.

They was a town meeting recently where on the agenda was a man complaining
about his neighbor's goat eating his shrubbery.

Aunt Bee's birthday with the fiasco with the canning jars and lovely bed jacket

Barney going overboard on Thelma Lou's birthday by taking her to Morelli's for

Mr. Schwump

2006-05-14 Thread Ken Anderson
I think I finally solved the Mystery of Mr. Schwump. I am reading the World
War II spy mystery Double Cross Blind by Joel N. Ross. The Germans have a
double agent and they are setting up a meeting. They are to meet - now are
you ready for this ? - at the All Souls Church. Now that explains why Mr.
Schwump never speaks in Mayberry. And I am sure I have seen him at the All
Souls Church. In fact I believe he was at Andy and Helen's wedding. So
Barney wasn't far off when he suspected Ed Sawyer of being a spy. He had
the right idea, but he just had the wrong person at the wrong time. Maybe
this will put to rest the fascinating Mystery of Mr. Schwump. And I would
not be a bit surprised if he answered to Herr Schwump.

Just thought I would mention that I sent my letter to Paramount last Monday

I've watched the first disc. Now I'm ready for the second. I have to admit

get on another bus and go to the high school in the next big town. We had a
constable, two small grocery stores, a little post office, a garage, and a
small bank. The store where we went had 2 gas pumps and you could buy stuff on

credit!!! We also had a party line and I used to listen to the old ladies

I'm in and out of Henagar quite often, as they have a great drive-in theatre
there. (Longtime list members know me well enough to know I have a thing for
drive-ins, even curious about the one in Mt. Pilot where Barney took Juanita.)
Big excitment there a few years ago when it was shaken up by an earthquake,
sending all the oil cans and fan belts crashing to the floor in the nearby
Texaco.

For the record, I grew up in a nice small town of Glencoe, Alabama. It
wasn't crime free, had its own secrets, problems and troublemakers, and it was
a
bit close to a larger city (Gadsden) to be considered a Mayberry-like town but
it still may be why Mayberry itself resonates so much with me.

Birthdays in Mayberry

Andy bought Aunt Bee canning jars for her birthday and Opie bought her salt
and pepper shakers.

In another episode Aunt Bee was planning a birthday party for Andy. Helen
told him that she had bought two boxes of candles. Aunt Bee bought Andy a
shirt. Opie went to the carnival and won an electric razor for Andy.

Andy had a birthday party for Otis at the jail on the day when the state
inspector came.

Barney bought the mink from Newton Monroe for Thelma Lou's birthday. He
later bought her a pineapple skinner.

Andy's good friend who portrayed Mr. Flint, Frankie's, umm Francis' father that
time.

(no subject)My home town

2006-05-14 Thread Ann & Wayne
Hey Wade, where I live still feels like our beloved Mayberry. We don't
lock our doors and we feel completely safe when we walk down our little
street. This is Henagar,Alabama,Allan's home town.We even had a Barney of
sorts for a very long time. He's gone now just like our real Barney but
certianly not forgotten. His name was John Henry and what a charactor!!
He was known for his traffic directing, talk about a mess,he could tangle
up three cars into a huge mess!!WE all loved and respected his effort
even if it was side spliting.I get a real kick out of reading the
digest,ya'll keep up the good work{I mean fun}you have here.

The Gold Truck/ Mr. Schwamp

2006-05-14 Thread Mari Ellen Ryan
Todd, The episode "The Gold Truck" contains all 3 Howards and a glitch with
the"G-Men" switching outI love that episode!

AlsoOdd Facts Known By Few.Mr. Schwamp was an innovative spy for the
government in Mayberry (probably looking for the location of Otis' "source")
He had a "Bug in his Rug" and was working on prototypes for spy
communication devices (like the Phone in a Shoe for Maxwell Smart). I think
he knew all along that Ernest T. Bass was NOT from Back Bay Boston! Just
watch him closelyyou'll see what I mean; he even is in Church on Sundays
watching to see if Ben Weaver is REALLY singing "Leaning on the Everlasting
Arms" OR just mouthing the words!!

A Northern Person In The Flesh,

Small towns

2006-05-14 Thread [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Hello everyone! I enjoy your comments on our favorite show!
As far as small towns still existing (ala Mayberry), there are still plenty of
those Mayberry types here in Montana! Choteau, Augusta, Fairfield, and the
list goes on. Everyone knows everybody and nobody locks their doors.
Neighbors helping neighbors; high schools sports still cause the whole town
(just about) to stand and cheer!; and the sheriff and his deputy(ies) are
related to just about everyone around.
I know Montana's not a southern state, but there are still many towns here that
have our favorite show's appeal!
Happy Mother's Day to you all, and Aunt Bee, too!

Mayberry Moment

2006-05-14 Thread dwrogers
I drove by a roadside stand near my home today which was advertising "50
Ribeyes for 50 Dollars." Couldn't help but think of Aunt Bee and her freezer.
Sometime tells me there are going to be some folks around here who are going to
need to "call the man!"
