QUESTION

2006-06-20 Thread Oliver, Michael J
Hi All,

I have a question. All this talk and uproar about the statue makes me
wonder. What happened to cause it all? I believe that from the start,
Karen Knotts, I would assume the executer of the estate, was in full
agreement of the statue and said it was a great way to honor him. What
happened to change all that? The rights of the character Barney Fife
belong to Viacom like the other TAGS rights and CBS doesn't own them
anymore than the Knotts estate. I guess what I don't understand the
most is the problem with the statue in honor of his greatness. Does
anyone have the complete details of this or any answers. Does Jim Clark
have an opinion? How about you Allan, whats your opinion? I think it's
a great idea and always will be. BTW, what was the talk of the Griffith
associates and the lack of interest there? Any help and any answers
would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Michael Oliver

Going Home

2006-06-20 Thread Ken Anderson
Forgive me for another post so soon but I received so many emails about
going home I feel compelled to share one more story. In 1926 my father
immigrated to this great land at the age of 23. He left his family in
Sweden and came to America to seek a better life. He always dreamed of
returning home to see his family but he never did. Because of a language
barrier we lost contact with all Dad's family until I was able to find in
1999 while doing research on my computer. I sent a letter and one morning
after church I received a phone call from two first cousins in Sweden. One
year later my wife and I spent two wonderful weeks in Sweden with my new
family. We visited my father's birthplace, his childhood village, and his
school. We were also able to visit the beautiful cemetery where both my
grandparents are laid to rest. Knowing my father's dream to return home
never came true I did one little thing for him. I went to my father's grave
in Dorchester, Wisconsin, and I took some soil and rocks from his graveside.
I took it to Sweden and mixed it in the soil of his parent's graves. Then I
took some soil and rocks from my grandparent's graves and from my father's
childhood home and I took them to Dorchester and mixed them with the soil
on my father's grave. Now for eternity the ground from the two homes my
father loved shall now be but one. By the way, this morning I received a
wonderful email from my Cousin Patrik in Sweden wishing us a happy
midsummer. He included many pictures of my Swedish family "back home".

I promise no more postings. I will sit back and enjoy what all my TAGS
friends write.

Thanks

2006-06-20 Thread jlj9675
A great big thank you to Randy Davis for his heartwarming message. You just
don't know how much it means to me to know that there are some fine teens out
there who watch TAGS and appreciate it and wish for decent fare on TV. It is
so easy to get discouraged with all the filth and grief we see in the media
these days so I just rejoice when hearing news like this. Our fellow
Mayberrians don't realize how much we help one another with these positive
messages. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!

Lots of green in color episodes

2006-06-20 Thread Doug Gibson
I just bought Season 6 and the color is much sharper than any episodes I saw on
TV. I have a question though: There seems to be A LOT of green -- green walls,
green appliances, green furniture, ... I was wondering, is this a glitch from
early TV color, or was green a favorable color for early TV color? Just
wondering.

Going Back Home

2006-06-20 Thread Duane Malcolm
I guess sometimes you can go back home, but more times than nought you are
remembered by who you were and not who you have became. People seem to take the
"show me"attitude and that usually leads to failure. Being a big TAGS fan as
most of us,I believe and try to live the way God intended us too. But I have
found just as Jesus did when he returned home to Nazereth that we are
remembered by who we WERE and not who we ARE. Just as Jesus was remembered as a
carpenter`s son and a brother, he could not do many miracles there because his
own people could not believe. He left after being thrown out. I have found that
to be so true that it is scary. Andy always saw Otis`s good side instead of his
bad habit`s. I believe with all my heart that was and is who he is. He alway`s
tried to help Barney instead of putting him down and he alway`s seemed to learn
a lesson from Opie in the end. I wish with all my heart that there was a
Mayberry. I would give all I have to be there instead of
this place we are now. But you know in my heart that there is such a place,
Heaven is what it is called.

yahoo poll again

2006-06-20 Thread lisadanj
> There is a poll on yahoo.com today which reads "There are legal issues
> delaying the construction of a statue of TV legend Don Knotts in Mt. Airy,
> NC, the basis for the town of Mayberry on TAGS. What do you think?" The
> choices are : 1) "Don Knotts should definitely be honored with a statue.
> He's the coolest!" or 2) "I'd respect the wishes of the Don Knotts
> estate, which doesn't want it built."

I read this after it posted and thought I may've broken a rule or two (No,
not the one about writing on the wall). I hope that my vote, which was for
the statue, wasn't misinterpreted by anyone to think that I wouldn't want
the family's wishes to be respected. I voted for the statue because I
believe Mr. Knotts deserves his work to be remembered in that way, but I
certainly believe that the family would have the right to approve or
disapprove it. I also expressed an opinion about the way the poll choices
were given. In expressing that opinion, I hope that I didn't "get a rude".
I just thought it could've been worded a little differently because if a
person voted for the statue, it seemed that they were saying to go against
the family's wishes, which I certainly wouldn't approve. Anyway, I hope no
one was offended, and that no rules were broken. If so, I will go and
hermitize myself with just raccoons, possums, and maybe a rock or two for
company. :) Lisa

Mayberry moment

2006-06-20 Thread Pamela Cantrell
I took a call last week from a customer named Mr. Fife, I resisted the urge
to mention Barney, when my salesman returned from his home he told me that
on the wall was the metal sign "Protected by Fife" So the next time he
called I had to ask if he was a fan and of course he is. It was kind of neat
getting to refer to a Mr. Fife. It is always nice to think of Barney and
Mayberry.

Father's Day Gift

2006-06-20 Thread Randy Davis
Greetings my fellow Mayberrians,
I introduced my son & daughter to TAGS several years ago. We sit and
watch the DVD's all of the time. They gave me season 2 for Fathers Day. Now
I have Seasons 1 - 5. I'll be getting season 6 for my birthday. It's also
interesting to note that when my teenage son has friends over that they
always tend to migrate towards the great room and watch TAGS. It's so
refreshing to him them laugh at Barney antics. I usually hear the comment
about how they wish there were shows like that on TV now and how the lessons
of the show apply to their life now. Good kids? Yes indeed.
