Life was better in black and white!

Black and White

(Under age 40? You won't understand.)

You could hardly see for all the snow,

Spread the rabbit ears as far as they go.

Pull a chair up to the TV set,

Good Night, David. Good Night, Chet.

Depending on the channel you tuned,

You got Rob and Laura - or Ward and June.

It felt so good. It felt so right.

Life looked better in black and white.

I Love Lucy, The Real McCoys,

Dennis the Menace, the Cleaver boys,

Rawhide, Gunsmoke, Wagon Train,

Superman, Jimmy and Lois Lane.

Father Knows Best, Mayberry, Patty Duke,

Rin Tin Tin and Lassie too,

Donna Reed on Thursday night! --

Life looked better in black and white.

I want to go back to black and white.

Everything always turned out right.

Simple people, simple lives.

Good guys always won the fights.

Now nothing is the way it seems,

In living color on the TV screen.

Too many murders, too many fights,

I want to go back to black and white.

In God they trusted, alone in bed, they slept,

A promise made was a promise kept.

They never cussed or broke their vows.

They'd never make the network now.

But if I could, I'd rather be

In a TV town.

It felt so good. It felt so right.

Life looked better in black and white.

I'd trade all the channels on the satellite,

If I could just turn back the clock tonight

To when everybody knew wrong from right.

Life was better in black and white!

Andy's Badge

2006-12-09 Thread Ken Anderson
I know I said my Mayberry Blessing was my final posting for 2006, but I have
to ask this. I just received Season 8 of TAGS on DVD and on the cover Andy
is wearing his badge on the wrong side. Would anyone have an explanation
for that?

Muslims in Mayberry

2006-12-09 Thread Cynthia Mahoney
Sure there was a Muslim in Mayberry. He wanted to buy some elixir from the
Morrison sisters so he could celebrate Mohammed's birthday. Of course, the
Morrison sisters had always thought that he was a Lutheran (I think), but if
it weren't for their holidays, you would never know. I guess that when one
has to come up with a holiday in a hurry so he can get some elixir, changing
religions quickly is not out of the question.

Elinor Donahue interview

2006-12-09 Thread Janet Anderson
Allan, I enjoyed this interview very much. It was kind and comforting to
hear Ellie's (Elinor's) voice and her feelings and observations. What a
sweetheart! Sure wish she had decided that she was doing okay (or perfect)
and had stayed on TAGS for several more seasons!

I really enjoyed that, too, Allan. Thanks for making those interviews
available! I haven't heard people say much about Elinor Donahue personally,
perhaps because she hasn't been a regular at TAGS events. But just hearing her
voice and the way she answered Allan's questions gave me the impression that
she is a nice, down-to-earth person. Like Larry, I enjoyed her presence in the
first season of TAGS and wish she would have stayed longer. Though I liked the
confident, spunky nature of her Ellie character, I suspect that if she had
stayed longer than one season, the writers would have needed to make her
relationship with Andy a little less antagonistic. (One could argue that
Andy's relationship with Helen was of a similar nature, so maybe -- unlike Lou
Grant -- Andy liked his gals to have some spunk!)

riding on a motercycle and sidecare just like Barneys and i couldnt
help but think of our Veterens and want to thank all of you (i know

grandfather (i was to stupid to do so b4 he died when i was a teen).

Happy Holiday's and Thank you.

Mayberry Moment

2006-12-09 Thread Pastor Ed
Today at lunch, my wife asked if I had seen the soup ladle – without even
noticing, I said: “don’t you mean loup sadle?” … only to realize afterward
that she was right all along (me, I was just in Mayberry!).

Christmas Episode

2006-12-09 Thread Doug Gibson
I'm going to take a contrarian position here and argue, that as wonderful as
every episode of TAGS is, I am glad there is only one Christmas-themed episode.
Any other attempt probably would have suffered in comparison to The Christmas
Story, which is among the best themed episodes of any TV show. Ben Weaver was
probably the only regular Mayberry character who would have worked for a
Christmas redemption episode. Will Wright was so perfect as Mr. Weaver in the
few (three?) episodes he played the role. There were other capable, talented
actors who played Ben Weaver, but in my humble opinion, they never came as
close to capturing the grumpy old guy with a warm heart who blustered a lot but
provided gifts at Christmas, a home and job for a destitute family and bought
out a competitor's stock and employed him.
