Maggie & The Dilllards

2007-03-26 Thread Jimmy Phillips
I had the great experience this past weekend of getting to meet Maggie Peterson
and Rodney and Doug Dillard. They held a concert/comedy show in Smithfield NC.
They were very entertaining, and Rodney made up for all the talking he missed
out on while on TAGS. I had the opportunity to speak to them one on one and let
me tell you they are some of the nicest people I have ever met. It was almost
like getting together with family you haven't seen in a long time. What was
really refreshing to see was how they interacted with all of their fan base,
they were very patient with everyone. I don't believe that anyone that wanted
to see them was left out. And Maggie is so personable, and when I asked her to
take picture with me, she replied, only if you let me hug you ! The first
picture didn't turn out so well and she was gracious enough to offer another,
although I have admit, the hug she gave me was worth a second helping. She was
just great. And that Rodney is some story teller, he and Doug were so
incredible together. I laughed so hard at some of there experiences they
shared. It was a great night for all of us. A special thanks to my son James,
who gave me these tickets last Christmas, I love you son !

Real Mayberry Moment

2007-03-26 Thread Deborah Glover
Had to send this to all my friends at the bulletin board - I know that you
will 'preciate it the most!

My husband and I spent time in Mt. Airy this past weekend. The Chuck Wagon
Gang (an old fashioned quartet that we both grew up listening to) was giving
a benefit concert at the Mt. Airy High School auditorium last Saturday night
and we traveled from our home in Gaston, SC (right outside of Columbia) to
attend. We arrived early so we could stroll downtown for a while and if any
of you have a chance to visit there aside from Mayberry Days please take
advantage of it because you can really get that small town feeling when the
crowds aren't quite so large.

We followed our usual routine of buying souvenirs and then went to Main Oak
Emporium to see the memorabilia collection. Every time, I see things I
didn't notice before. This time it was the newspaper article about the time
Andy appeared with Elvis Pressley. I didn't have time to read it all and
have not been able to locate it online so if any of you know how I can get a
copy of it I would be forever grateful!

The real Mayberry Moment came right after this. I decided to go back to a
new store called Opie's Candy Store. I got T-shirts and candy for my
grandchildren and when I went to pay I saw a sign that said they didn't take
debit or credit cards. I told the proprietor that I would have to get my
husband before I could check out because he had all our cash. The proprietor
said, "Do you have a check?" "Yes", I replied, "but it's out of state."

He said, "Is it good?"

I said "Yes, it is." He said, "That's good enough for me."

He not only took my check on my word alone but all he checked was that my
signature matched my driver's license! Can't find that kind of trust around
my neck of the woods! Just one more reason to believe that Mayberry still
exists!

Sorry this is so long but I thought you might enjoy reliving my Mayberry
Moment with me!

PS- My favorite quote is "Act like somebody!"

Til next time-

Deb Glover

Recycling Elixir Bottles -

2007-03-26 Thread Albert Acevedo
California redemption value on Colonel Harvey Indian Elixir bottles is .04
cents each! I always do my part to keep the Earth green by recycling all my
empty elixir bottles regularly. Just last week, I took a load of empties to
the recycler while whistling "Toot Toot Tootsie", and I'll be danged if no
less than 15 folks down there weren't whistlin' the same tune!
Just goes to show you, that at $1.00 a bottle, Colonel Harvey's Indian
Elixir is popular from coast to coast!

Barney's Poem

2007-03-26 Thread Ken Anderson
Perhaps a second poem about Barney should be written that goes:

There once was deputy named Fife,

He was afraid to get himself a wife,.

His tongue was all tied and he was all knots inside,

cause he never proposed to a girl in his life.

I like it when Andy says Hallelujah, although a bit jaded, after Barn's
uvula declaration. Puts me in mind of holiday time at the post office; the
clerk told me they were just about out of the religious stamps-they're the
most popular and I sang out "Hallelujah!" He looked a bit startled but all
others present just grinned and nodded. Warmed my heart, it did.

QUOTES GALORE

2007-03-26 Thread Mike Peacock
Hi Gang,

Well the quote thread is a fun one for sure. A few of my fav's from key
characters

Barney in Pickle Story -- the line about kerosene cucumbers. Something like
"I don't know how I can face the future, knowing there's 12 quarts of these
kerosene cucumbers in it. Andy my hearts just not in it.." Andy replies
"It's not your heart we need, just your stomach.."

Andy, especially in earlier episodes would often say "that's an OUTSTANDING
idea"

And one of my very favorites is when they are holding the rummage sale for
the scolby house fund. Rafe hollister is holding a gadget and pumping its
handle, buys it and asks Andy what it is. Andy doesn't know and ole Rafe
says "I don't know either but I always wanted one..." L O L Lines like
that make TAGS the classic it was and always will be!!

2. Ernest T - "I can't hear your a-men-i-nees!"
3. Gomer - "If she's locked in the ON position, she's gonna run on

It's The Best Salt I've Ever Tasted!

2007-03-26 Thread bcq145
Attention: Mayberry Shoppers

This week's special at the Dime Store--two pound packages of salt for 10 cents
a package, either the plain kind or the kind with iodide added, a necessary
nutrient. Quantities limited to ten packages. That means that for about one
dollar you can buy (depending on the amount of salt you and your family use)
enough salt to last for a year, maybe more.
It's a deal Newton Monroe couldn't resist.
And it's good salt!

Mayberry Quotes

2007-03-26 Thread Harry Brewbaker
Like most of you, I could sit here all day and think of great lines from
TAGS. Some of my favorites have already been mentioned, here are some
others: (They may not be exact)

"Andy, If you flew a quail through this room, every woman in here would
point"

"I'm sorry Barney, I'll try to be more considerate next time I attack
you."

  Andy: "A worm"
Barney: "No, it's vicsious, a killer"
  Andy: "A mad worm"

Briscoe: "Miss Bea, you kisses are sweet and highly valuable. But to be
perfectly honest, they
just ain't worth the pain."

Barney: "I gotta a uvuela, you gotta uvuela, they gotta uvuela, all God's
chillin' gotta uvuela."

And I believe they poem Barney accused Opie of writing on the sidewalk was:

There once was a deputy named Fife
Who carried a gun and a knife
The gun was all dusty
The knife was all rusty
Cause he never caught a crook in his life.

I'll stop now, but as I said before, I could sit here and enjoy doing this
all day.

Barney Poem and favorite quote

2007-03-26 Thread Kim
I like the Barney poem too. I believe it went: There once was a deputy named
Fife, who had both a gun and a knife, but the gun was all dusty and the knife
was all rusty, cause he never caught a crook in his life. I like when Andy was
saying that Opie couldn't be the boy who wrote it because, he hasn't learned
how to write yet.

The one scene and quote that gets me every time is when Andy opens the door
and Briscoe is standing there. Andy says, "this is a surprise" and when
Briscoe dead pans, "ain't it" I crack up.

I also like when Barney is going to show Ernest T how to enter a room and
when he knocks on the door Ernest T says, "I wonder who that could be."

Favorite quotes and then some

2007-03-26 Thread Dennis Ernest
There are many, and a number have been quoted here.but I'm partial to
these, and many more:

"My mother was the same way"
"Bless her heart"
"Maybe you ought to go church more often"
"I got a hobbyit's drinkin'"
"that's fast on water"

On another subject, what do you suppose was the security issue at the
Mayberry County Courthouse/Jail facility that prompted the addition of the
locking bar in the gun case?

Near as I can tell, its not there until Season 4, Citizen's Arrest episode.
Might be fun to speculate on what would have prompted the added security!

ThanksLove ya all.
